Last Smash Bros. video, promise
Friday, March 28th, 2008 at 9:12am by JackConsider this post an end note for the Super Smash Bros. Brawl propaganda coverage. It’s Al Gore’s Current TV covering the Brawl launch in Burbank. Leave your thoughts on the game–now a few weeks old–in the comments. How have Infendo’s Thursday night brawls been for you? Have online issues subsided? Who’s unlocked everything? (screen or it didn’t happen!)
[Thanks, Alex]

I was actually able to play a few Infendoites last night. There was still substantial lag.
I really believe it wasn’t on my end either. As a reminder, please refrain from downloading while playing Brawl. K thnx.
I did have an otherwise “issue” free night. Won a few matches against JLink and droop. Lost more though. =)

Yeah, we had some good battles, Rush. GREAT time, wish it were every night. I don’t know that I have the fastest wireless connection, but I don’t think it’s that bad either. Regardless, most of our matches were great, I’d say. I’m still getting used to adjusting my fighting for the minimal lag that occurs on every single online game, though. I can’t remember if it was against you or not, but I played one match as Jigglypuff against Kirby on the Ice Climbers stage, and it took FOREVER with all of the puffy jumps and missed jump hits… oy.
On that note, I’d still like to get more people added, I don’t think I’ve gone about connecting with people the right way. If you have added me, and still haven’t gotten a confirmation, or would LIKE to add me, you can AIM me at NintendoPython whenever I may happen to be on, or email me at jling52@gmail.com and/or Rabbitduck@hotmail.com. I’ve still got about 50 empty slots that could have YOUR friend code in it, people. AND, I have no life, so I’m usually free for a match. Convenience, eh? (And sorry for the shameless plug when I’m supposed to be discussing the game, I just can’t seem to get ahold of people any other way. Not very used to using forums)
Okay, now on to the game: Online, I consider a blessing. I honestly haven’t been able to play against any of my non-Infendo friends yet, partially because some of my friends don’t have online connections, and partially because my friends don’t have time, or it just isn’t much of a priority to them. And I can understand that. Honestly, especially without a voice chat, I’d still rather completely play with people in person. Now, I realize that’s not an option, even for myself, because being a college student, my friends are spread all over Ohio. I only get to see them about once a couple months, if I’m lucky.
But I can’t say that Brawl is awesome just BECAUSE of online capabilities. I think Rushli0n may have brought that up as a reason that he likes Brawl more than Melee. And that’s a fair point, if that’s what you really need. In any case, I’m not going to disagree that it’s a good thing. I like to get on for an occasional random match, and I’ve even lost a good deal of coinage in the spectator mode when all other entertainment failed. My roundabout point? I personally think Melee is a better game, graphics and other enhancements aside. It is SO good, so solid of a package. I think most of the reason is that a part of me that wasn’t sucking Brawl up like it was my life force was a bit let down with Brawl. I could make a list of reasons, but at the moment, unfortunately, I don’t have time. Or I would make this even more obscenely long. But I’ll end it now.
Oh, and I’ve unlocked all characters and levels and whatnot, but there are still a bunch of those damn squares I still haven’t opened yet. Especially beating the bosses on hard and intense, collect all stickers, I’m one trophy away from getting the 500 trophies one (I HATE getting the subspace enemy trophies, it’s so freaking hard! You finally get a trophy stand to appear, even with a + Trophy Spawn sticker on your character, and then you have to wait for the character to wind up and either miss the enemy you MEANT to hit, and fly off the screen and disappear, or have it hit them, and, oh, apparently you didn’t weaken them enough yet. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.) and I’ve got some like beat 10 or 5 enemies on cruel brawl, etc. I’d say maybe like 10 - 15 left? They’re more of a chore than fun, so… it could be a while.

I’m new to the series, having never played the N64 or Gamecube versions. I wasn’t even looking at Brawl but I kept reading and hearing how great it was so I figured I had to give it a try.
Loving it.
Forgive me if some of the features are just carry over from it’s predecessors, but there are so many angles of fun packed into this game. I’ve never liked fighting games, because if you don’t have someone to play with, they’re boring. In Brawl however, even this is a blast with the Classic, Story, Event, and Challanges modes. Plus the Story and Event modes force you to play as all the characters, giving you a taste of all them. Now you can actually appreciate the variety that 40+ characters provides.
Oh yeah, and there’s that whole 4 player manic fighting, items dropping out of nowhere, bodies flying, stages themselves trying to kill you chaos that is each and every match. And now you can even work over family and friends online.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl - nice, very nice indeed. Thank you, Nintendo.
