IGN’s Casamassina kinda confirms Kid Icarus

To preface the inference that follows, journalistic formalities ought to be addressed. There has been no official verification that Kid Icarus is coming to Wii, and Nintendo executives have remained characteristically tight-lipped about the persistent rumors surrounding Pit’s return.
But given the recurring podcast mumblings at IGN, it doesn’t take advanced application of deductive reasoning to conclude Kid Icarus is coming to Wii.
None of the major gaming sites have yet confirmed the existence of Kid Icarus Wii. Even IGN’s Matt Casamassina had remained stringently quiet about them until recently, but with the rumors as prevalent as they’ve become, his IGN Nintendo team has been unofficially spilling the beans on its weekly “Nintendo Voice Chat” podcast, formerly known as “Wii-k in Review,” for weeks.
For the Kid Icarus hopeful, I thought I’d share.
To a question during the Mar. 31 podcast calling for clarification of IGN’s vague promise that a “major Nintendo franchise” would be returning to Wii in 2008, associate editor Mark Bozon replied:
“Kid Icarus. That was before we could say Kid Icarus, but that’s been blown out by everybody, everywhere.”
To a question during the Mar. 10 podcast directly asking if a new Kid Icarus will arrive on Wii in 2008, Casamassina replied:
“Kid Icarus? Absolutely. I mean, come on, the rumors are out there. We won’t comment any further, but there are some games, obviously, that are coming.”
As any regular listener of the IGN Nintendo podcast could attest, there have been countless examples over the last few weeks in which Casamassina and crew have similarly alluded to Kid Icarus Wii.
But what do you think? Is that enough confirmation to start getting excited about Pit’s long-overdue return, or would it still be a bit preemptive to start looking forward to a new Kid Icarus?

I don’t really see how this game will work if it wasn’t a side-scroller. I guess it’d be some sort of Zelda, only you play as Link-with-wings?
It seems interesting.

It might very well be true, but honestly I don’t pay any attention to those jesters. This is the same guy that made a big fuss out of a unofficial copy of Halo that was pitched for the DS and nothing more.

A game will be coming soon. And i for one am 75 percent sure that the game the Regginator was alluding to is going to be Kid Icarus.

that’s nice…. now when can we see StarTropics DS: Return of the Revenge of the Son of Zoda?
…cause that’s what I really want….cause I had a crush on Mica…

@ peshue:
it was true tho, and it didnt happened only due to a problem between companies, but i too tend not to trust them 100%. Rather, i check the user scores, comments etc.

Hm… as long as Nintendo gives it their golden touch… guess it’ll be fun. I just hope Pit isn’t as annoying as his victory screens on Brawl… Or the “Hiyiyiya!” over B-attack… oy.

It’d be interesting to see how the game would return:
-a somewhat safe sidescroller (basically something like what was done in Brawl’s SSE)
or
-a bold new way to play the game in 3D, hopefully in a succesful manner like Mario64, Zelda:Ocarina of Time, and Metroid Prime (but not like DK64 which began losing its focus).
Let’s just hope that if it’s true, it’ll be good. I’m sure many a table will be upended before the game’s release.

when i got to thinking what the big Nintendo Christmas suprise might be, i thought it would either be a Kid Icarus game or a new Pikmin.
I’d like to see a new Pikmin more, but i could be persuaded to get this if it turns out good.

I know it was true. But e made a fuss about Halo DS being real for quite awhile before the much less interesting truth came out.

Why aren’t there any rumors about the return of the Ice Climbers?
April 2nd, 2008 at 6:54 pm
peshue: Good point; and it’s probably for your own good that you are able to resist excitement and keep necessary skepticism of IGN’s subtle, behind-the-scenes confirmations. I wish I could, but I readily admit I’m just too damn excited for a new Kid Icarus.
Liraco: I am considering a feature on the hype behind Kid Icarus, so I don’t want to give too much of my view away, but I’m with the second option you stated. A new Kid Icarus should be a 3D revelation/renovation of the series, similar to the three landmark titles you mentioned.

Kid Icarus Wii is going to happen.
Believe it. I mean, c’mon Nintendo, I want to see TLOZ with Pit, except for the generic do this, then go to the dungeon, then get a new item, then kill the boss of the dungeon by hitting him with an item that is in his own freakin house, etc.
jeez, that Zelda formula gets old…..

hmmm, didn’t someone say on infendo radio that 2008 was the second coming of Pit? who was that insightful genius?

I mentioned Kid Icarus Wii in a audio question….

Forget Kid Icarus, WHERE IS ANIMAL CROSSING Wii?

Someone mentioned ice Climbers. it would be great if they returned. I’d love to see what modern changes could be made to the Ice Climbers and what kind of game they could star in on the Wii. Tingle has his own game in this century, the Ice climbers should have theirs.

I kind of think they’re full of shit. If you actually listen to the podcasts, when they mention it they do so with a tone of, “Yeah, there’s a new Kid Icarus coming. So what?”, when they DAMN well know what the return of Kid Icarus means to Nintendo fans.
While I think now is the time to bring back Pit more than ever, I’m doubtful that IGN has any actual SOLID information and suspect that they’re very likely making an educated guess…if they actually knew anything, there’s no way Nintendo wouldn’t have them locked down by an unprecedented number of NDA’s.
