GDC: Fils-Aime owns Harrison
Friday, March 9th, 2007 at 12:51am by StaffChris Kohler, Game|Life:
Waiting for the Miyamoto keynote to start, I’m sitting three rows from the front. Close enough to see Nintendo’s resident BMOC, Reggie Fils-Aime at the front of the crowd, working it with his trademark smile and good will. He poses for pictures, he signs Wiimotes, he presses the flesh with a good natured ease that would make even the most seasoned politician weep with envy.“Kick his ass and take his name!” someone shouted from a few rows behind me.
“Who?” answered Reggie in mid-autograph.
“Phil Harrison, front row!” Sure enough, there was Phil Harrison, seated dead center, front row. Looks like he could show up on time for Nintendo’s keynote, but not Sony’s.
With a grin and a chuckle, Reggie replies, “Some would say we’ve already done that.”
Touchdown. The crowd goes wild.
Truth hurts. But it’s damn funny.

March 9th, 2007 at 1:54 am
NO HE DI’INT!!!
March 9th, 2007 at 1:55 am
OMG I can just imagine Reggie, and phils’s faces in that exact moment!
That is so funny… but is it true?
March 9th, 2007 at 3:15 am
Oh yes he did.
I’m sure that was quite a sweet moment for those who heard it go down. Awesome.
As advertised: Taking names and kicking ass.
March 9th, 2007 at 4:21 am
It is funny.
But it is also to early to say that Wii is kicking the PS3 in the ass.
With a sh!t poor online service with no online games, Sony and its new ” HOME” service will kick Nintendo in the ass if they are not carefull.
Come on big N, get in the online game before it is to late…again…
March 9th, 2007 at 5:03 am
hopefully a recording of this will surface soon.
March 9th, 2007 at 6:17 am
BURN!!! Yes in fact they already did.

Pretty immature of a full-grown man to say that, especially when the statement isn’t true (it wouldn’t be if either side said it) and it’s too early to make a jugdement anyways, especially since neither system has a very good lineup nor are their features that great at this point (though sony appears to be ahead.) Both sold out all of their units when they needed to, both are selling study enough now. Both have a few very wanted games coming out (actually, you could argue the PS3 has more, but that’s more opinion than anything), etc.
I don’t see the need for such a childish comment other than to stir up fanboys to go “OMFG OWNED” in response to seeing an article like this. It’s just stupid.
March 9th, 2007 at 7:04 am
and to stir up the fanboys like Dustin to say things like “zomg the wii iz shit ps3 4ever”
March 9th, 2007 at 7:07 am
Uhh, Dustin.
http://www.vgcharts.org/
Dispute those numbers?
March 9th, 2007 at 7:08 am
It’s amazing the extremism that you idiots possess. I made ZERO indication of being a fanboy nor any indication of favoring the wii. So what, no one can be in the middle ground anymore?
Seriously, half the people on the internet are a fucking joke. You people need to grow up. Fanboys are essentially the ravid fans we’ve always had for things, but the extreme attitude you guys possess and thus use to try and bash everything else (including other people, not just games or companies) is insane, I don’t remember any N* Sync fans going to such extreme against things that backstreet boys fans (to use a semi-old example that I actually remember.)
If you think i’m a fanboy then you need a reality check. I don’t like either system nor their libraries. I’ve had equal fun from the games i’ve played on both, but both are something I would not spend money on at this point and I think that anyone that has, has wasted their money. Buying consoles the first year they are are just sucks.
March 9th, 2007 at 7:11 am
Dustin: Pretty immature of a full-grown man to say that, especially when the statement isn’t true
He never said they have done it. He said some might say that they have.
March 9th, 2007 at 7:11 am
“Uhh, Dustin.
http://www.vgcharts.org/
Dispute those numbers?”
Less consoles available. Wow you people are geniuses. Sites like that are just made for short-sighted idiots like you people who wouldn’t know a thing about the business world if you had been part of it for 30 years. Raw sales figures are something commonly used by you idiots online but guess what? No one uses those in reality, you want reality? Compare total units sold vs total available, that’s all that matters. PS3 and Wii have both been doing great in that regard, 20 gig PS3s are actually harder to find than wiis, although 60 gig PS3s are easier to find than wii’s… so that gets balanced out.
But you 14 year olds really need reality checks.
March 9th, 2007 at 7:16 am
yo guys, i dont know if my post showed up. my name is adam, i was in the 5th row behind reggie. I spotted Phil front center and told my friend Daniel next to me. He then made the comment to Reggie. so i just read that this actually hit the net and wanted to confirm it. sorry there is no audio. after he said it though we burst out laughing and wished we had video taped it. would have been the best youtube video ever. thanks guys and hopefully bring you more info from GDC07 -Adam
March 9th, 2007 at 7:27 am
OUCH!
(But obviously Reggie didn’t attend Phil’s keynote, or he wouldn’t have been so bold in his remark… Nintendo should be afraid of Sony’s Home AND Little Big World!)
March 9th, 2007 at 7:40 am
Dustin, you need to go see a doctor… you have a serious problem dude, you sound really depressed and bittered.
If you don’t think this is funny and spot on, than you have no sense of humour, and did not follow what is going on the last 3 years.
Why did you respond anyway?
March 9th, 2007 at 7:43 am
you know why 20 gig ps3’s are really hard to find? Because they possibly discontinued them.
http://www.gamedrift.com/articles.php?a=293
and vgchart also shows that Nintendo sold in 5 months more than half the ammount of units that the xbox sold in its 15 months. And this is only due to the fact that wiis are still unavailable in stores. and the ps3 sold only 2mil. That is terrible and you can still find the ps3 on shelves.
So YES the nintendo is currently kicking both their asses! This could change, but in my opinion nintendo is going to stay strong especially when they fully enter into the online gaming community.
I’m thinking about buying a wii soon but i’m loving gears of war right now!
March 9th, 2007 at 8:16 am
“Compare total units sold vs total available, that’s all that matters.”
That’s simply creating an artificial “high” demand by shipping out only a few units to make idiots believe the product sells better. Raw numbers are what counts.
March 9th, 2007 at 8:27 am
“If you don’t think this is funny and spot on, than you have no sense of humour, and did not follow what is going on the last 3 years.”
It was clever no doubt, but this sort of “oh snap did he just say that?” sort of humor got dry after high school.
That gamedrift article, if true, would suck for Sony as that’s what most people WANT to buy and they’re making a major mistake if they discontinue it. It’ll be pretty hard for them to die out, but they could take a larger loss than they expected which could be harder to recover from.
But I always find Wii’s and PS3s, both of them are on shelves. And this is based on a middle-upper class area where there are multiple outlets within a mile range (2 gamespots, an EB, a best buy, a circuit city, target, etc) that all have both systems in stock. In december, all of these stores had both their PS3 and Wii out of stock signs up, now neither sign is up at any of the stores (though target is always out of everything, but also never had signs.)
But anyways, the wii has the advantage of the japanese market, where 360 is doing horrible, so compare them on a region to region basis (with that in mind, PS3 also hasn’t been sold in Europe yet, that could be another million in a short span of time quite easily when people are breaking into stores to play it, check youtube for that video.)
Long story short: No system is clearly winning (well besides 360 and PS2, yes PS2, which were the highest holiday 2006 sellers, with PS2 being the biggest), no system will fail.
So people, just shut the hell up for another 9 months and do the internet a favor. Thanks.
“That’s simply creating an artificial “high” demand by shipping out only a few units to make idiots believe the product sells better. Raw numbers are what counts.”
Except due to production problems, they actually weren’t even able to get out what they wanted to get out and still haven’t caught up to where they should be production wise. I mean seriously, how can little things like this just get beyond you people? It was mildly big news when Sony announced pre-release that they were having problems and would be releasing a very limited quantity compared to what they had promised.
March 9th, 2007 at 9:00 am
So when exactly is the console war officially going to start?
All three are out, all three are selling, but one is at the bottom of the pile. Tip: it’s not made by Nintendo.
March 9th, 2007 at 9:04 am
“So people, just shut the hell up for another 9 months and do the internet a favor. Thanks.”
Do us all a favor and take your own advice.
March 9th, 2007 at 9:24 am
Dustin…
“Except due to production problems, they actually weren’t even able to get out what they wanted to get out and still haven’t caught up to where they should be production wise.”
That’s just the point. Sony FAILED. They didn’t produce enough. Period. Using that to say “Oh, well we sold all we had, so that must be good!” doesn’t fix the failure of not making enough. Now they’re STILL sitting on the ones that they HAVE made, since, as you pointed out, they’re sitting on the shelves smack next to the Wii consoles.
One had a large release, sold out. The other had a small release, sold out. Now they both have consoles sitting in stores. Who’s doing better?
March 9th, 2007 at 9:48 am
Good bit of info, nice to see some love not lost between Nintendo and Sony. Rep wars… Fils-Aime definitely does own Harrison, but he kinda sucks when on the defensive.
Its true, the market is still new, but establishing a solid footprint is important at this point, which Sony clearly has not done for one reason or another… not to mention Nintendo already building that war chest.
March 9th, 2007 at 9:50 am
Dustin
you need to STFU you are sounding like an idiot. This is funny because Sony are FACT: underperforming on sales. He could have been a lot worse, you need to lighten up Dustin, you’re not at mature and objective as you think you are. You knob.
March 9th, 2007 at 10:09 am
Dustin, you sound like an extremist. stirring up the conversation like this

March 9th, 2007 at 10:35 am
I’m not saying that Sony is out of this race, but they’re definitely getting their ass kicked in every way, shape and form. The Nintendo Wii is breaking sale records every other day. As long as the demand stays high, which it definitely will since people are still talking about the Wii, it’ll be on top for a while. The only problem thus far is that there’s not a lot of great games coming out. For both the Wii and the VC. Third party support needs to jump up a notch, plus Nintendo needs to allow them online functionality.
Let’s be realistic here, Sony’s Game 3.0 is quite original, but I’m not gonna spend 600 bucks on a system to play Second Life or Sims Online. Moreover, the games for the system are a total let down. With no MGS or FF, the system is not that appealing. The negatives outweigh the positives. Why buy this system right now?
March 9th, 2007 at 11:37 am
Am I the only one that thinks Dustin has a point? Everyone has a point and makes sense to some extent. Is no one reading at all?
Race of retards… HAHAHA!!!
March 9th, 2007 at 12:07 pm
lol, i love how it was just a random funny little thing, and then Dustin makes such a big deal about it, and then tells people to grow up and get mature ROFL!
i think its funny, because PS3 AREN’T doing as well as they thought they would, and they made it sound in their previews how it was gonna be the best thing since sliced bread, and its not working out. i think it’ll teach Sony maybe to think about what they say.
I also like how quiet Microsoft are being with the Xbox. they have the right idea, dont butter yourself up, cause people will s**t all over you when it goes wrong xD

March 9th, 2007 at 12:13 pm
Actually Dustin, I think Harrison is the douchebag, for most of his public comments. You and I where not at the GDC, so we don’t know in which context this all took place.
What I do know is sitting in the middle of the front row at your competitors keynote, could be noticed as a little provocative. Or he wants to get noticed for a vacancy, as I heard he did not show up in time for sony’s note.
However, this is the Reggienator and as he announced years ago what he is about, (most) people can’t deny this was the only correct answer, no matter the context.
As for you Dustin, I don’t think you’re a douchebag. I think you’re someone like Gollem. Living in caves for most of his life, all bittered.
March 9th, 2007 at 12:14 pm
To Dustin: I bought a nintendo and a sega genesis the MINUTE they came out and never had a problem.. I guess what you should say is “If you live your parent’s basement, as I do, money isn’t so easy to come by so you have to carefully plot your next gen console purchases.” If, on the other hand, you have a job then you can probably get a 360 and a Wii without worrying about it.
March 9th, 2007 at 1:06 pm
People will grow tired of the little Wii eventually
PS3 will outlive the 360 + wii generation. thats just the sad truth, hate it as much as you want but dont be left in the corner crying when the PS3 rules over.
and your only other choice is to buy the xbox-720 for 700$ or the Wii2 for 300$ in order to compete.
March 9th, 2007 at 1:07 pm
PS1 Blew, PS2 Blew, and Ps3 blows too. Nintendo 64 Blew. NES Ruled, Sega Genesis Blew, Atarii 2600 Ruled, Xbox 360 is ok, GameBoy Advance SP is alot of fun, DS Kicks Ass, Xbox 1 Modded Owns, Gamecube Sucked, Super Nintendo Ruled, WII Owns!!!

The fact that on forums I see alot of Nintendo fanboy’s say they hate Sony for their arrogant attitude.

EVERYBODY STOP.
This is getting way out of hand…
And by the way Dustin, the only thing worse than a zealot, is a self-righteous fuck who thinks he’s better than everyone else, in my opinion. They always seem to pop up in times like these to show how “1nt3llig3nt” they are.
This is a Nintendo fanboy website, what kind of reaction were you expecting to get? Not withstanding all the great press Sony is getting and bad press for Nintendo in the last few days…
Anyway, I’m kinda pissed Reggie said that, keeping the hype train steaming ahead for Miyamoto’s “mindblowing” keynote right to the last moment… The fact that not only nothing noteworthy was announced, but it was a horrendously bad keynote as well, seems to confirm suspicions that it was a last minute affair due to the stock market affair.
Nevermind, once the Japanese Government’s stock has been valued and sold back to Nintendo, we will get some AWESOME news…
(Though that was still a kick ass mario trailer)
Ps: Why do Sony fanboys (crunshii etc) plauge Nintendo websites? Do they have nothing better to do than rise reactions of Nintendo fanbots?
March 9th, 2007 at 1:42 pm
This asshole didn’t post the WHOLE article, wherein it’s actually NINTENDO who makes FOOLS OF THEMSELVES @ GDC.
wired: http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/03/gdc_nintendos_k.html#more
GDC: Nintendo’s Keynote–Nothing to Say
Waiting for the Miyamoto keynote to start, I’m sitting three rows from the front. Close enough to see Nintendo’s resident BMOC, Reggie Fils-Aime at the front of the crowd, working it with his trademark smile and good will. He poses for pictures, he signs Wiimotes, he presses the flesh with a goodnatured ease that would make even the most seasoned politician weep with envy.
“Kick his ass and take his name!” someone shouted from a few rows behind me.
Read on to find out how it all went horribly wrong after that.
The enthusiasm dwindles as we’re kept waiting a full half hour. There’s running late, there’s fashionably late, and then there’s what we’re doing now.
We’re told this is going to be a “different kind of keynote.” As it turns out, he’s absolutely right. Most keynotes have a big bang, a juicy bit of info, or at least a really big technical snafu. Nintendo’s keynote had none of those things, just a charming man, his translator, and some pretty pictures.
The keynote said absolutely, positively nothing. It was an interesting insight into some of Nintendo’s corporate vision, but it took entirely too long (it was supposed to be done at 11:30 and we got out at 12:15) to say too little. Miyamoto basically discussed Nintendo’s appeal to the other 90%, people like his wife, who traditionally don’t play games. He emphasized his company’s team-based approach, stressing a game or console’s success was never because of one single person, but rather many groups of dedicated team members working in concert. He discussed Nintendo’s willingness to take risk, to go out on a limb, to rethink what they “know.” In other words, he told us things we’ve already been told on a dozen different occasions.
Of course, we already knew not to expect too much, but this was still a huge letdown. Miyamoto was, as always, endearing and loveable but his rambling, meandering recap of Nintendo’s successes (the DS, Nintendogs, the Wiimote) and failures (the e-Reader) was really only of interest in a historical sense. Still, everyone clapped, cheered, and hooted approval when he was done, proving that he could get up there and read the phone book and still receive universal love and devotion from the crowd.
March 9th, 2007 at 1:44 pm
Hey Dustin…
I’m not going to comment on anything you’ve said, except one thing: can you show me where you’ve found Wiis on the shelves in stores? I’d like to buy them to sell them on eBay, where they’re still going for more than retail value. Thanks much.
March 9th, 2007 at 2:09 pm
@ Anonymous who talked back at me.
You bet your L2 the PS2 Blew. The Controller Sucked, The Optical Disc Drives always screwed up, load times where horrendous. PS2 is garbage, and the Final FAntasys on it wicked sucked.
My post had a certain theme to it. and that was all the 3d systems totaly blow except the modded xbox because its modded and has XBMC.
The other systems I gave good reviews for had monumental changes in gameing and graphics.
The WII owns because it has a new way to play which makes video games fun again.
I dont know about you but I like fun games not the same 3d crap over and over again. Wolfenstein 3d was fun, but over a thousand clones???
Sales dont mean anything if the games suck.
March 9th, 2007 at 2:10 pm
Dustin == fanboi
March 9th, 2007 at 2:22 pm
Nintendo fanboy speaking here. Started playing video games on the NES when I was ten, and now playing on the Wii. Owned the SNES, N64 and Gamecube, and all instances of GameBoy and DS.
I don’t hate Sony because they are arrogant. Hell everyone in that business is arrogant. I do not like Sony because they transformed the videogames world… in a bad way.
Take away the racing games, the FPS games and the sport games, and you get barely anything interesting on the Playstations. Sony created a situation where videogames became a “hardcore-gamers” world only!
At least with Nintendo, and to a lesser extent Xbox, the videogames world is opening up and becoming more accepted and respected!
And with the PS3, Sony is continuing on their usual path. You can tell from the price, but also take a look at Playstation Home, who else than a hardcore gamer is going to play with that feature? At least, Nintendo’s Miis appeal to more people!
March 9th, 2007 at 2:28 pm
First off not a fanboy here.
I own A PSP , a nintendo DS, A Wii and a PS3. So I am just a hard working spoiled bastard. When I got the PS3 I passed the ol’ Wii to my 5 year old son. I like the wii its not a bad toy. Zelda was cool. However when it comes down to it compare excite truck to motorstorm and you will see where next gen lays. WOW what a difference. But wario ware and the wii games are great for parties, I bring it to keg parties all the time and have a ball. However the nerd and geek in me creams everytime I play a ps3 game. Its just the way it is. It’s the old saying bangin a fat chik is fun till your friends see you but wouldn’t you much rather be bangin Jessica Biel. MMMM, Oh yes she will be mine.
March 9th, 2007 at 2:30 pm
“But I always find Wii’s and PS3s, both of them are on shelves. “
I hate to call anyone a liar, but I just cannot believe this statement. In my area (NC) you have to be incredibly lucky to get a Wii. They are never on shelves. And, that seems to be the case across the the country.
If you are truly seeing Wiis on the shelf Dustin then you have to understand that is extremely strange because *no one* else is.
March 9th, 2007 at 3:44 pm
I have a PS3, a 360, and a wii…
you know what ones actually get turned on..i havnet turned on the ps3 for months..wii is funer when there is more people then just me. both systems have not really any to die for games, except for zelda. As for finding them on the shelves at store, i can go to any store and see at least 60 gb ps3s just sitting there, and no wiis at all. in order to get my wee i went to gamestop for 2 weeks straght everyday right after ups got there, not a big deal cuz i work next to them,
March 9th, 2007 at 3:49 pm
aaahhhhh ha ha ha!
you guys are loyal and lie for a corporate company! what the hell is wrong with you people, nintendo are a bunch of con men and you’ve all been conned. you know your selves wii is just a game cube with a new peripheral yet you buy it in droves??!! i think i understand who nintendo owns, you dicks!!
March 9th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
Guys, just leave Dustin alone; He just had a bad case of diarrhea, from his mouth.
Seriously, how do you negate whats really going on, its not complicated at all. I really think these comments have to be evaluated a little more to filter out idiots, “DUHHH ,Hello my name is Dustin ,yes in order to calculate real success you have to factor in Supply and Demand minus the GOP plus the initial intent divided by the color of the console and multiply that by a million based on what I think”, seariously STFU!
And yes only Pu$$13s call themselves anonymous.
March 9th, 2007 at 4:19 pm
nice come back!! nintendo produce worthwhile electronics because i’m a pusy because i’ve posted as anonymous. wonderful simply beautiful logic!!
March 9th, 2007 at 4:40 pm
Thank you so much, this thread made me pee. Keep up the good work.
March 9th, 2007 at 4:51 pm
shmahat, dude who are you!? what comment did you post earlier!? Own up to your comments so that people can properly insult your dumbass (need more LOGIC?)
How many articles do you want to prove that NINTENDO owns? Go to digg.com , google, anything, and search for “nintendo sales.” Matter of fact find an article stating that Sony PS3 sales have surpassed any console or that they have met their expectation, (please do, I’d love to see that).
March 9th, 2007 at 4:57 pm
lol you people are ridiculous
excellent points, Dustin
March 9th, 2007 at 5:03 pm
So a 4 year old named Dustin comes on to a Nintendo fansite calling everyone names and expects a good response?
30 more years and you’ll understand why you die alone and broke.
March 9th, 2007 at 5:04 pm
i put the comment about how you guys are a bunch of coporate owned dicks!
i happen to spend my money and judge hardware based on, surprise, the hardware, not on how well it sold or social pressure!! when watching videos of wii(jesus man, its called wii!!) i just find them laughable, i actually laugh out loud as to how awful they look! i ain’t buying that, if you guys wanna keep playing as some gay plumber in red dungarees for the next 50 years go ahead, but seriously you should stop trying to prove your points with personal insults it really really aint changing my mind on the wii. pphhh huh hah ha ha ha wee ha ha ha ha you know like the urine pa ha ha ha
oh and reggie has souless dead cold eyes.
March 9th, 2007 at 5:31 pm
I would like to take a moment to thank all of the trolls for ranking this story higher so that more people read the comments you’re complaining about.
I hear Sony’s PR department is hiring. Maybe you could link them to your work here.
March 9th, 2007 at 5:41 pm
shmahat, dude, look in the mirror, you called everybody who bought a wii what?
Dude if you care so much about hardware buy a Gaming PC with real specs. You leave your comments in a Nintendo fansite expecting what? With the amount of money that nintedo’s making, don’t you think that it won’t be long until the specs change. For one thing, they’ve already proven one thing with the DS and the Wii, Innovation is the groundwork for success.
March 9th, 2007 at 5:59 pm
errr i’m looking in the mirror and reading over what i wrote. i don’t see your point? i didn’t call wii, snicker, owners anything, i may have implied something about weird fanboys. back, i mean way back in the day, when i first saw the gameboy i could’t believe people bought that and ever since nintendo pump out weak limp crap and people lap it up. you’ll notice i’m not making personal references to other commentators here, i’m trying to argue the point about being objective to the consoles and not having some weird sudo religious loylalty to a company.
its just a bit creepy.
March 9th, 2007 at 6:02 pm
oh and saying better specs will come in the future, isn’t actually arguing the point for the present console is it?
March 9th, 2007 at 6:21 pm
I went to bestbuy today, and inside that cage thing at the front of the store, i saw exactly 12 60 gb ps3’s. I went up to the guy and asked. do you have any… and the guy didnt even let me finish. He said Nope no wii’s here. When i asked about the ps3’s he said “Yea no one wants those things, people just come look at them, snicker and leave.” OWNED!
March 9th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
lmao burn.
gotta feel bad for sony’s employees though.
March 9th, 2007 at 6:29 pm
Dustin,
The fact the Sony is losing money on every PS3 sale, they sure as sh&t care about the number of total sales considering they will only make a profit if they sell enough systems. Having a 90% sale rate means nothing and will tell you nothing about the demand when you only have a tiny amount of PS3 to sell. Wow, you sold 90% out of a non existent supply, congrats. Try selling 90% once you can actually make more than 10 PS3 at a time.
Go back to school fanboy.
March 9th, 2007 at 7:06 pm
thats funny, how come nintendos sales have dropped 28% and Sonys has risen 108%
March 9th, 2007 at 7:11 pm
We bought a Wii. I have 2 kids… this is a GREAT console for them and for their grandparents. This is perfect for the front room. We own a PS/2 but only my 13yr old and myself have any interest in it… and if it wasn’t for God of War I wouldn’t play it except with her. All these “console people” talking about next gen… wow… next gen is easy…it’s called a PC. I think Nintendo is spot on here… I’ll play on the Wii because it’s a CHANGE in gaming. I’ll laugh at ps3/xbox360 owners… they should have bought a computer and a Wii.
March 9th, 2007 at 7:26 pm
A pc will always be more expensive than a console, come with less variety, and in the end not be worth it for people who are mainly focused on gaming. When it comes to games, pc’s aren’t completely superior, but for all the good that they have it’s worthless when there isn’t enough varied quality content. FPS #354, RTS #98, and Small Niche Title that doesn’t live up to its’ potential 3 aren’t enpugh for true gamers.

Dustin, stfu. The rest of you, enjoy life, its unnecessary to argue all the time with people who are wrong factually or simply against your opinion.
March 9th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
last time i checked, the PS# didnt even launch world wide yet…. so maybe the numbers might be a slightly better for the 2 others that are…..im just sick of people bashing a system that only came out 5 months ago…

Hey anon, this is just an example, but when company A is selling 0 units of its product, and then it sells 2 units, what % have they increased sales?
Back to Econ 101 for you, my son.

March 9th, 2007 at 9:06 pm
Speaking objectively, it only makes sense that nintendo will try to accomodate the percentage of people who are into detail like (inevitable evolution) my friend shmahat because it it has made a considerable amount of profit, oh what’s that SONY you mean you’re profit margin is HOW MUCH for early technology that’s too expensive??!! MEANWHILE,it is apparrent that the majority have purchased the wii because its new, a blast and gives customers PLAYING EXPERIENCE. Cry all you want little emos I am corpororate owned, CAUSE I HAVE A JOB.
March 9th, 2007 at 9:15 pm
OOOOO that’s gotta hurt! I really wish I was there to see how both of them reacted after that. Sony guy was probably like, “Who’s doing what now?”
March 9th, 2007 at 10:45 pm
thats amazing!!!
March 9th, 2007 at 11:40 pm
Well Dustin is wrong that they are selling equally well. He is luck to find a Wii on the shelf where I have seen multiple PS3’s sitting there, and they are newer! Anyways, the real example of how well they are doing is ebay. Just look at them both on ebay, it’s the perfect example of supply and demand. Wii’s are still going for almost $100 over retail price and PS3 are selling for LESS then retail. So there you have it. PS3 just doesn’t have any good games. Oh, and it’s $350 more then a Wii, lol.
March 10th, 2007 at 12:02 am
Metroid Prime 3 > Everything.
Thus, Wii > PS3.
March 10th, 2007 at 1:02 am
Everyone forgets here especially dustin you have no clue about sales. Sales work this way. You make an object and sell this object for gain. Sony themselves state they are selling every ps3 at a loss and nintendo says there making money out the door. Most companys loose in the Beginning and make up later down the road as the product gets cheaper. So nintendo is in the green all the way. Now i don’t know what bass ackwards part of the world you live in but in the greater los angeles riverside and san bernadino areas you can not buy a wii off the shelves now ps3’s are in abundance and have been since launch I did not know of one store with out one. As for being a fan boy I don’t own a console and if I could would buy all 3 but right now give me my puter and the up coming gears of war pc.

Dustin, after reading all of your comments, especially your first one:
“Pretty immature of a full-grown man to say that, especially when the statement isn’t true (it wouldn’t be if either side said it) and it’s too early to make a jugdement anyways, especially since neither system has a very good lineup nor are their features that great at this point (though sony appears to be ahead.) Both sold out all of their units when they needed to, both are selling study enough now.”
Okay look, i’m pretty sure that when Reggie said “Some would say we’ve already done that”, I think he only said that due to the obvious facts stated throughout the numerous reports from the internet and tv, that the Wii is selling alot better than the PS3 right now worldwide. If you’re now thinking,”Oh, well that’s only because Sony had shipped a limited supply of PS3’s since it’s launch back in November, yadda yadda yadda”, well, as a company Sony should have thought about that wayyy before the launch date of the PS3, and as we all hear “Oh, it’s too much money to develop a PS3″, well that’s Sony’s problem, being a company as big as Sony shouldn’t have a problem like that, especially when it comes to money problems with PS3’s to be developed, if they can develop huge plasma tv’s, computers, blu-ray players, mp3 player, computers, and everything else they make, then why is it such a problem to get a good amount of Playstation 3’s out on the shelves of stores? Nintendo did it, Microsoft did it, right? It’s not our problem that all of Sony’s products suck and/or don’t sell, I do have to admit the only Sony products i ever liked were the Playstation 1, PS2, and yes, i am also looking forward to purchasing a PS3 in time, just not right now.
The whole purpose of my comment in the first place though was just to point out that Reggie at Nintendo simply said what he said due to the obvious facts that the Wii is selling alot better than the Playstation 3. BTW nobody at that GDC incident was thinking about how sells are going between the PS2 and the GameCube, that was last-gen, this is next-gen, and i’m pretty sure those guys don’t care as much either for their current sales.
March 10th, 2007 at 3:21 am
Oh, and this is to Anonymous who posted:
“aaahhhhh ha ha ha!
you guys are loyal and lie for a corporate company! what the hell is wrong with you people, nintendo are a bunch of con men and you’ve all been conned. you know your selves wii is just a game cube with a new peripheral yet you buy it in droves??!! i think i understand who nintendo owns, you dicks!!”
Okay get this through your thick head, most people that went out and bought a Wii were immediately attracted by the low(er) price, compared to the PS3. Some people have 600 dollars to throw away, and some people don’t. I myself and many others happen to be a college student for example, that does not have 600 dollars to spend haphazardly. Another thing to point out is that many many people look at the Wii and Xbox360 as “something to play video games on”, that same group may also look at the PS3 as “something that does things my computer already does” (this is shooting towards the PS3 including things like a photo editor, music player, blu-ray movie player, etc. etc. etc.), and you call Nintendo a bunch of con men?? My friend, if you could see it any clearer than it already is, Sony should be called a bunch of con men, forcing consumers to end up buying something that includes things that would rarely be used (especially in this market, the VIDEO GAME market, people buy video game consoles so they can PLAY VIDEO GAMES). You now might be thinking, “well Microsoft put out a HD DVD player add-on for the 360, who’s gonna want that? yadda yadda yadda”, well if you think that was a stupid part on Microsofts side, then you are definately wrong. Microsoft was smart doing what they did. For example, if you look at it like this, you can see that maybe some people(most probably could care less) that bought an Xbox 360 then later found out that the PS3 was coming with a blu-ray player may have thought “aw man i want one of those, i don’t want to buy a PS3 though”, but now that Microsoft came out with an add-on HD DVD player, 360 owners now have the option of having something just as equal as a blu-ray player. As for the Wii, the Wii is just plain fun, and it’s something different. As a matter of fact I own one myself and I really like it, but I have to admit that I still play my PS2 every now and then too. You said “you know your selves wii is just a game cube with a new peripheral yet you buy it in droves??!!“, man have you ever took the time to play a bit of Zelda: Twilight Princess, or Sonic and the Secret Rings? As time goes by and games like these two for the Wii come out, you will see that graphics on the Wii are indeed slightly better than the GameCube, but most importantly they are definately fun.
March 10th, 2007 at 4:28 am
I really find it amazing that people think/state that they’re so much smarter than everyone else, but then have to resort to childish namecalling. If this was pre-school, and we were all out at recess it might be acceptable, but its not. Grow up. Seriously.
March 10th, 2007 at 4:37 am
let me start at the begining here for those of you who are “hateing” on the wii
a qucik comparison of gaming systems is simple
360 vs ps3 vs Wii
macroshaft… i mean microsoft’s 360 is luring new gamers… to an extent
the Wii is having DROVES of NEW GAMERS
and the ps3 is a paperweight
lets take a look at why this is happening why are the WII and the 360 pulling in new gamers while the ps3 is a paperweight?
the wii brought about a revolution in gaming because nintendo has EXPERIENCE in the field of gaming much more than say sony or microsoft because nintendo has been doing it longer so they know their consumer base they want GAMERS not people who want a media center like the ps3 or 360 GAMING systems are about GAMING not photos movies, internet access, what have you yes those things are nice but if i want that i have a perfectly good PC running linux and windows
now back to the revolutionary way gaming has been changed by the wii the wii offers an expereince that leaves one still having fun even if you arent a hardcore gamer ( I am a hard core gamer i have consoles going all the way back to the oddyssey to all 3 of the current gen systems i prefer the wii it gives me a work out) lets say your grandma/grandpa were offered a wii mote and all they have to do is simple motions or something thats easy and it offers bonding time with grandparents and kids
you offer them a 360 or a ps3 remote they just stare at it ( i know i tried) my mom who hates games loves the wii because it gives her something fun to do when shes bored at home ( i bought her one a few weeks ago) and yet shes never played a gaming console in her life yet she loves her wii i once tried to get her to play a ps2 and se said no sure when i’m overthere my little brothers and sisters are there and they adore the ps2 and 360 ( they hate the ps3 for obivous reasons) but my mom has fun with her kids and it allows her to bond with my younger sibs becasue its quality family time playing the wii hell my mom has lost almost 15 pounds playing wii sports against my little brother
now the 360 is pulling in some new gamers but the interface is nowehere near as intuitve as the wiimote is it’s great for those of us who want someting where you can go blow your friends brains out with a sniper rifle and walk away having released tension but beyond that i’ve yet to get any of the older generations in my family to play with it
the ps3 .. i’m sorry but it just is a paperweight it has little or no redememing vaule save as the paperweight on my desk that i use it as

Reality Check? I thought this was about video games.

Don’t bother, Dustin ran away.
KEEP ON TOPIC.
THIS IS A NINTENDO SITE, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?
If you’re anti-Wii, GO TO A DAMN SONY SITE, ASSHOLES.

I only read about the first five comments; but I just really want to put this out there:
What Reggie said is true. The keyword is some. I would say that was a very tactful comment by Reggie. Some might disagree with me. But it is a fact that Reggie told the truth.
March 12th, 2007 at 12:17 am
lol! This whole thing is made up fellas, Phil Harrison wasn’t in Miyamoto’s speech. I was sitting directly behind a journalist called Josh who made all of this up. I watched him type it in on his Apple laptop as I peeked over his shoulder. My friend and I were bemused as we were trying to see where Harrison was and he simply wasn’t there. Also we didn’t hear anyone shout out the words that are being reported and we were there before this Josh guy sat down. I don’t really understand the constant fighting between console fan-boys though, the world would be a duller place without even one of the big three console players.
March 12th, 2007 at 1:27 am
Phil Harrison was indeed there, in the very front row in the center section. I was two rows behind Reggie. Reggie’s comment about Phil was absolutely HILARIOUS - including the look on his face as he said it! ALMOST got it on video, too. >.<

lol! This whole thing is made up fellas..
Sorry, buddy
I do believe you are blind and/or deaf!

Jesus, I wonder how long it’ll be before people see the stupidity of agueing with closed minded internet children…
There have go to be all of about 3 gaming sites where the conversation doesn’t devolve into this sort of titfortat idiocy.
At least it’s, somewhat, kept it’s coherancy and isn’t the usual full-caps, truncated words and complete grammar rape that goes down almost everywhere else.
–!! Just get the console(s) you want to play, End Of Thread. !!–
just weigh up the options and decide with your cash ffs. Owning one console over another doesn’t make you super tough/clever/desirable to the opposite sex.
No choice is really right or wrong since people have.. that’s right.. Different opinions on what they find fun.
You want a highgly underpowered, possibly short-lived gimmick. go with the bigN. You better be willing to wait, and wait, for those precious first party titles though, eh? and I hope yu don’t actually want to USE that hdtv of yours.
Want to pay for an expensive blu-ray dust-collector with a built in 3d-chatroom/pale second-life shadow? give your cash to sony. Sure makes your wallet easier to carry, huh?
or how about a boring line-treader that really adds nothing over its previous incarnation and has a decent online service riddled with the kind of dicks you see over at ign, only now they have microphones. Grab yourself an XtremeBox360 yoyo. I hope you like generic cookie-cutter spec ops fps games on a joypad.
March 17th, 2007 at 12:52 am
I was actually there, sitting next to the guy who made the comment to Reggie in the first place. It was pretty damned funny. And this article has it all word for word.
March 30th, 2007 at 1:13 am
I agree with voice_of_reason to an extent. There are definitely advantages to each system, but I don’t see the point of trying to convert other people to their systems. It’s not a religion. You can own more than one—or none at all—and have a perfectly satisfying life.
I was amazed as I read through some of these comments, there were posts literally around the clock. There were just as many comments made between the hours of 12 and 6 AM as there were between 12 and 6 PM. Furthermore, I was rather irritated by the complete lack/misuse of punctuation throughout the whole comments section; the anonymous post at 11:37 pm had 0 sentence-terminating periods in 511 words of text (no, “dot dot dot” doesn’t count). Although this isn’t something I’m amazingly passionate about, I think it is only doing a disservice to oneself. It leaves room for misunderstanding, and removes power from your writing. The more you practice power of speech in all it’s forms, the more you will gain from it and be able to persuade people.
I will personally buy a Wii eventually, and possibly an Xbox360, but at the moment I am happy with my pc and ps2. I have enjoyed the N64, the NES, and the Playstation original. With this having been said, I have no allegiance to any one company, as should be the case for any intelligent consumer. While I am not trying to influence anyone towards buying any certain console, I think there are certain things that should be noticed and thought on while trying to prove a point in any form of media.

ahahhaha thats hilarious!!!
Does anyone want the new xbox 360 elite thats coming out? My friend just got one…for free (well actually a pre-order). Any xbox fans should jump on this! JUST ONE OFFER! and then referred ten friends to do the same thats it!!! I only need a few more referrals and im set! help a guy out and do the sa
