Super Mario GalaxyRumas over at 4cr has done the hard work this morning, assembling more than a dozen links to Nintendo E3 content–including videos, interviews, screenshots and a slew of hands-on impressions of Mario and Metroid (the first paragraph in the Metroid one is interesting, to say the least…).

You can find 4cr’s linkage here and here, and you can wash the drool off of your mouth after that.

Then if you like, come on back here to Infendo and let’s get a vibe going. Mario and Metroid seem to be the one-two punch Nintendo needs right now to get its more traditional customer base back in lockstep, but maybe you don’t think so. The keynote was no ground breaker, that’s for sure (aside from WiiFit), but the hands-on time we’re seeing from all these media outlets is much more important, I think. G4 had some interesting shots of a few brand new 3rd party games last night that I had never seen before too. A bouncing blob that needs to paint a completely black and white world with splashes of color? Wha wha wha?

Anyway what say you? How has this rollercoaster of an E3 left you feeling this morning?

This comes as a strange thing to say seeing that I write for Infendo and all, but honestly I’m a little blown out with news. I barely scan over my RSS feeds and the various coverage. It’s information overload and there’s too much repetition from various sources with little to be gleaned from many of the articles.

That said, I’m excited about the stuff that’s coming in the future, but I’ll be even more excited when it actually gets here.

You hadn’t seen De Blob yet, Jack? It looks absolutely wonderful and I’m rather enticed to play it. That IGN blurb on Metroid is incredible. There’s a video of the run-through they’re talking about on GameTrailers.com, although it obviously doesn’t do the game any visual justice (it’s just a handicam over the shoulder interview). Galaxy is looking great, too. Man it’s a great time to be a Nintendo fan. I don’t know that I’m too excited about the balance board, but that could change if Nintendo were to,say, announce 1080 Snowboarding in the next short while. I’m also dying to know what Retro Studios’ next project is now that Corruption is wrapping up; doubtless they’ll lie low for a couple of months, though.

    e3 07:

-glad/relieved metroid is looking solid, though still sad by the lack of new hardcore ninny skus. looking forward to phantom hourglass.

-very impressed with lineup of 360 software, annoyed by crap quality of console.

    -largely ignoring sony. lair…. fallout…. snooze….

-wishing there was more info on spore, bia3, and battle of britain.

now i’m off to borrow my friend’s gc and play twighlight princess all weekend.

I really liked the Nintendo press conference this year. Not as much of a jaw-dropping spectacle as last year, but that was to be expected. I thought Nintendo did everything they needed to do…which to be honest, wasn’t much.

I am a bit frustrated by the reactions from the gaming community, however. Since E3, it seems that “core” gamers have jumped on Nintendo for being “too casual” and for “forgetting the true gamers” of the world. Maybe I’m missing something…but didn’t Nintendo announce release dates for new Zelda, Metroid, and Mario games? Didn’t each of the three get raving previews, some going as far as to say they are the best of their respective franchises? Didn’t Nintendo announce a new Mario Kart title for Wii?

I have been a Nintendo fan for years…literally, twenty of them. And never have I been as excited about being a “core” Nintendo fan. So…did I miss something, or is there absolutely NOTHING for a Nintendo fan to complain about right now?

Derek, you’re spot on. In the intricacies of the Interweb we are often distracted by the vocal minority. The keynote might have been awkward, but Nintendo certainly delivered the software goods in the demos and hands on time afterwards.

And to those peeps who say Nintendo is ignoring the 3rd parties again, I’ll remind you that this was Nintendo’s keynote, and besides being a hardware developer they are also a SOFTWARE developer, and needed to peddle their wares just as much as the next guy. It was up to the third parties to hold their own keynotes showcasing their games for each system, and they did.

    E3 2007 — a quiet success.

hehe- yeah it was a success. ninny’s over $52 now. brokerage acct ftw.

I agree Derek. For every casual game announced - WiiFit, Brain Age 2, My Word Coach - there was a core game announced along with it - Smash Bros. Brawl, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy. Nintendo is just balancing the field. In fact, I would say that core games coming to the Wii outnumber the casual games. In addition to uber core games like Metroid Prime 3, Mario, and Smash, we’ll see games like No More Heroes, Zak & Wiki Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure, Resident Evil UC, Mario Kart Wii, Soul Calibur Legends, NiGHTS, Battalion Wars 2, Guitar Hero III, Trauma Center, Dragon Quest Swords, and Geometry Wars Galaxy.

Complain? Not me. I’m even more excited for Nintendo’s new prospects.

Thank God for level headed nintendo fans with level headed posts. I too echo Derek’s frustration of not the mainstream media, but of the VIDEOGAME media’s reaction to this years E3 and especially Nintendo’s conference.

This years E3 for one was expressly made for develepors, investors and the media, not the fans or fan service.

Nintendo’s conference reflected the change in E3 by not completely focusing on the ‘core’ games that are coming out this year beyond mentioning date, but more on their immersive gaming plans through the new peripherals. Indeed, what else could they have told us beyond the play testing and dates of the core games that would have made us want them any more than we do now?

By focusing on their new peripherals leading into the new ip, they forced us, once again in classic nintendo style, to step out of our comfort zone in gaming and embrace something that is entirely new, immersive, and more importantly fun. The wii board coupled with the nunchuck and wiimote has some serious (hate to use the word again) immerssion applications. THAT was what excited me most.

And because of the subdued nature of this years expo, the mainstream media was the true audience, and THEY are only really talking about what? The Wii board.
