Culture comes to the Wii

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007 at 10:40am by Jack

AmigoOK, so calling it culture may be a bit over the top. And if there’s anything I’m not these days, it’s over the top.

Anyway, Viva Pinata and Samba de Amigo (sans maracas) are headed to the Wii.

Game|Life:

Apparently Microsoft isn’t satisfied with putting their first-party, Rare-developed franchise Viva Pinata on the Nintendo DS: they’d just like to concede the race entirely and make a Wii version. If this happens I will really not know what to think.

Is it another case of the remake/port express coming into Wii station? Sure it is. But it’s also two great games that millions of people would never have had access to otherwise (hell, millions of people already had access to one of these games last year, but it still didn’t get played — perhaps a “different” audience is what’s needed?). Anyway, prepare to get shakin’.

Rare is making a Wii game?

    Wow. That’s just… wow.

Anyways, I had Samba De Amigo and two sets of official Sega Maracas back in the day, and I loved the game.

However, I don’t know exactly how they plan on pulling the game off with the Wii remotes - they’re not nearly responsive enough for quick 3-4 foot movements.

Is Viva Pinata still coming to the DS?

Ya know what this shows? That having only one system for all games would be a good idea, like how Denis Dyack predicted. If there’s three systems, one game might not necessarily work on only one of them. This definitely concerns the first-parties more than anything. Nintendo has a problem selling mature games, while Msoft has a problem selling all-ages material. Either they form up, or make it a practiced option of selling games on competing hardware. It is business after all, and everyone should be looking to sell their products in the best location possible. Just a theory of course, but you understand what I mean. Rare games like Viva Pinata would sell more on Wii. So why not do it? Msoft would probably make more money on it than releasing it only on the 360.

And yes Vinny, Viva Pinata is still coming to the DS. I’m excited for that, as it works perfectly with the on-the-go style of gaming that the DS is known for.

This just further proves what a total waste it was for Microsoft to acquire Rare. Without Nintendo’s guidance they are fairly incapable of producing successful, high quality games.

Not coming to the Wii. It’s owned by Microsoft don’t be stupid.

If this really happens (which, I think, is nearly impossible), well then I really won’t get it!

MS steals Rare from Nintendo’s hands paying a huge amount of money and then publishes games on Nintendo’s platform?? Even if it was just a port wouldn’t make sense!! And, AFAIK, MS games division isn’t like Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) which isn’t incorporated in Sony corp., thus is free of publishing games on whatever platform they like (even a MS or Nintendo one).

They do port games on handheld console just because MS isn’t in that market (and they don’t like Sony to be in it, that’s why there, supposedly, was a Halo game on the DS: to stop PSP if it became too popular).

Anyway, I agree with the other people saying that Rare w/o Nintendo has lost the magic touch they had once!

I’m not sure RARE even had that Magic at the end of the Nintendo run. They put out a grand total of one game for Gamecube, and I don’t exactly remember people clammoring over it. Perfect Dark was the last supposedly great game they released, and that was simply a remake of Goldeneye without the Bond graphics.

But then, this is coming from a guy who never liked Goldeneye or Banjo Kazoee that much.
