Conduit developers “feel our pain”

Monday, July 7th, 2008 at 5:49pm by Jake

conduit pwnsAn in-depth interview with Chief Creative Officer, Eric Nofsinger of the Conduit gives us a taste of what angle the team is taking, and why they feel the need to create such a large FPS project.

“I don’t think it has to be one or the other, and I think that Wii owners deserve to have games with better graphics. They deserve to have games that are made for them, not just for casual gamers. And to be clear, I think that it’s wonderful that the Wii is attracting a broader audience…

…But I don’t want to forget about us. I don’t want my Wii to gather dust for me or my friends. I don’t want to be in the situation where there’s such a gap that when I go to buy a product, if it’s available on the Wii and on the 360, I don’t want to be in a situation where I have to go, “Well, I’m going to get it on a 360.” I want to look at it and go, “Well, the graphics are pretty darn good on that still, and the control is a lot better on that.”

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…High Voltage Software has truly earned my respect as a gamer. Not just because I’m an all around “hardcore” player excited about a new game, but the simple fact that this third party realizes the massive amount of shovelware plaguing the Wii, and is doing something about it.

I hope High Voltage achieves in what they’re setting out to do. From the screens and vids it looks to be the case, but if it fails when people finally gets their hands on it, they’ll be shunned pretty badly. No pressure there eh?

I too like their attitude. And I thank them for at the very least not making a game with with characters and a look that appears to be marketed to 12 year olds.

Do they have a publisher yet? I mean you think someone would bite on this, if not Nintendo themselves.

This game is looking and sounding great! I am very interested to see how it turns out. It is EXACTLY what Wii needs more of by the sound of it. Quite frankly I had to go out and get a PS3 a couple months ago for GTA4 and MGS4. Also picked up Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank. All of them are excellent and have been keeping my interest more than Wii because there just have not been any games on Wii lately worth buying that I don’t already have. High hopes for The Conduit, Sadness (please be real), and other major titles we have and haven’t heard about.

i think they are setting themselves up for a hype backfire. Every “core” gamer depressed at the releases on wii thus far is going to latch on to this developer like a hungry baby, hyping Conduit to no end. When it finally comes out, it is going to get ripped apart unless it is damn near perfect.

I say good luck, but I think they should keep their trap shut and just focus on making the game as great as we all WANT it to be!

    Learn from John Romero!

[...] This game was first made famous when the developer created an image for their game by expressing concerns about the “hardcore” gamer content on the Wii, suggesting their game as a game for the hardcore. This obviously got a lot of people excited, [...]
