CAD: Wiimote takes out last remaining Wii joke

Monday, March 26th, 2007 at 2:25pm by Staff

Sure I shuddered a bit when the name was first announced, but when you think about it, only 10-year-olds and really insecure older folk actually associate the word “Wii” with peeing or the the places where pee comes from. It was childish then, and it’s just plain sad now. Ctrl-Alt-Del takes out the holdouts.

True, but, did anyone ever figure out what Nintendo’s intention was by naming it “Wii”? What does “Wii” mean, anyway??

    lmao great comic strip!

Yes invisibleman the intention was simple marketing…period. The meaning of Wii came out ages ago, Wii like We, us, you and me. They decided to use two i’s who represent people. The two i’s would catch people attention more then “we” alone and the e sound as in “we” in Europe, Asia, South America is represented by I (which makes more sense then our stupid English language with rules that people don’t use any more…I before e except after c..bullshit..how many words go against that rule lol I’m sorry I am Canadian I hate American English, our British English is just as bad color or colour, donut or doughnut but English will dominate the world.

Anyway Wii simply mean we..thats it!

I read somewhere that in Japanese “Wii” roughly translates into something related to what Nintendo was trying to accomplish with the Wii.

It’s also bloody simple brand marketing too. Very approachable for them non-gamer types.

Well, Jack is right, famicom83: The “Wii = We” explanation was an afterthought for English-speaking countries. The title was developed in Japan without any thought on what it sounded like in English…

and that proves how much nintendo cares about their western audience, (just throw them some Reggie and it’ll be fine)!

You lose brownie points for mentioning Tim Buckley. Dat’s bad, very, very bad.

If you like the comic, why not link to the site so he can get the traffic to help pay for it, instead of re-hosting it on your own space? Douche.
