New Nintendo hardware to be announced at E3?
Friday, June 1st, 2007 at 12:15am by Blake
Jeux France via Kotaku say they have their hands on some juicy and “credible” Nintendo rumors for this year’s smaller E3. They are…
- The company will unveil a new Mario Kart Wii
- Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros. to get firm release dates
- “Big hardware news” is coming (new hardware? doubtful…)
- Blake probably won’t get into Nintendo’s keynote
Okay, the last one really isn’t a rumor, just a prediction of mine. The above three are, however, just rumors. But some nice ones to speculate on none-the-less. You buyin?

Big hardware news? new colours for Wii.

Honestly, the biggest announcement I am waiting for from the Big N is Wii/DS connectivity. How about the ability to transfer my Virtual Console downloads to my DS to play on the go? Or simply letting my Wii act as a DS download station. The PS3 lets you transfer PS1 games to the PSP, so why won’t my Wii let me take Donkey Kong Country 2 with me onto the crapper? Seriously….

My guess is that either new colors, or a Wii capable of reading CD and DVDs. Maybe an external memory?

The biggest thing i want to see form this years E3 would be the finalized release dates for SSBB, but knowing how things usually work out with huge games like these, even if they give a date, it could still very easily get pushed back again after they say a date.
So I’m just going to do what i always do, and that’s just take what I can get and live with it.

GameBoy Advance 2? DS 2? Either with a handheld virtual console? That’d be cool… Or perhaps an add-on for the DS to allow a handheld virtual console…

hardware? I have my predictions:
Wii+DVD movie player
the gun addon
musical instrument addon
a new Wii channel
bluetooth headset
I was hoping for new revision of the DS, but with some new colors announced this week, this seems not coming for the next 2 years.

i think the hardware would probably be a hardrive or hardrive support of some kind.how else are they gonna get more channels,vc games, demos, original downloadable content etc…

Heh, I never before noticed but in that character model, Mario is wearing platform shoes! Maybe something to do with his abnormally large feet?
Ps: In a lighter note, if it’s “big” news then I predict a new DS with virtual console abilities… It’s far too early for anything drastic in relation to Wii.

I need me some Mario Kart!

My guess for hardware is either new Wii colors or some rechargeable wiimotes. In colors.

Wii hardware can mean anything. But enough pessimism. What I’m so blown away by is the level of secrecy Nintendo is able to maintain about their IP and hardware lines day in and day out. No one knows what’s real anymore!

I think Mario Kart’s a given. Nintendo has probably been sitting on it for a while now. With Mario Kart’s prowess on the DS, Nintendo may simply be afraid that a Wii version would steal thunder from Smash Bros (not that Smash Bros doesn’t have thunder to spare or anything). Can you imagine, though, how fun Mario Kart will be with Wiimote steering like in Excite Truck (I still think that game is beautiful). I’d just prefer that if there is a new Mario Kart, that it’d revert to a more classic set up like Mario Kart DS. I hated Double Dash. Also, the Hardware announcement is probably nothing all that surprising. Nintendo itself has already made public mention of a DVD-player Wii (months ago).

Yeah, I’m assuming the hardware news would most likely be something that will be neat, but nothing radical. All of Nintendo’s hardware right now is going pretty strong, I don’t think they NEED to do anything really radical at the moment.
Release dates for Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros Brawl would give me something to live for.
Mario Kart Wii is something I have dreamed of for as long as I can remember (short memory span). It has SO much potential… hopefully Nintendo learned their lesson with the positive feedback towards Mario Kart DS and the disdain so many of us carry for Double Dash!!, and get back to something better and closer to MK64.
I mean, honestly… no turning into a little kamikaze bomb after you lose multiplayer? Inexcusable.

I’m very excited about Mario Kart as well, I’m even more excited at the fact it may (and probably will) be online. Also I think the “hardware news” could have something to do with online play - like a microphone for the Wii.
