Associated Press calls Wii the most wanted gift

From the article:
Each holiday season, a couple hard-to-find toys send parents hunting from store to store. And, each season, they’re soon forgotten: Has your Elmo gotten any tickles lately? But this year, it looks like the gift everybody is looking for is the same as last year: the Nintendo Wii.
Know anyone still looking for one to no avail?

Got my first in a line back in November 2006; got my second for the family over the summer on a lucky break at Target. Do I need a third for the spare bedroom/office, though, that is the question…

Just ran across a woman asking a Best Buy employee about one yesterday.

And all this time I thought this year’s “most wanted” was going to be the MicroSoft Zune…

Invis, I do hope you’re kidding; the Zune is and always will be absolute trash. Apple for the win in all cases.
And for the record, I am still without a Wii… it’s pathetic. I have no money and even if I did, I haven’t seen Wii available anywhere - since last year. Wish me luck?

Not long ago, you could buy a Wii in this area without too much difficulty… but I haven’t seen any sitting on store shelves for well over a month. Demand is definitely outpacing supply once again.
I’m happy to have bought mine during the summer slump. The only problem now is not having enough free cash to buy the games I want (and hardly having enough time to enjoy the games I already own).

I froze(relative-70 degrees in Puerto Rico is pretty cold!) my ass off waiting 21 hours in line for mine on launch.

@Jack:
If that were my case, i´ll hold for a new color.
Thankfully i got mine but it was very, very hard, since´i live in Mexico i was not able to camp on launch day, and i crosed the border 3 weekends in a row just to come back with my empty hand. One lucky day of January(that´s a lot of time without a Wii:( ) , i was at my local Sams buying some other stuff and i decided to ask when they will get a new shipment, and for my surprise the clerk told me they have one, ONE! sitting at the customer service department, man i must have looked like an idiot when i left the store hugging my new Wii lol.
Good luck to anyone still looking for one.

My uncle had to pay nearly $50 extra for a Wii on ebay because he couldn’t find it in ANY stores. Apparently, my little cousin is dying for one. Thankfully, he’s in for a great surprise this year!

Somebody in my class at college has been looking for one for over 3 weeks now. He’s looked in game, gamestation, argos and various supermarkets, but to no avail. I suggested they just reserve one and hope for the best, but even now, people are struggling to get them, and Christmas is still over a month away. I however got mine a year ago

I actually saw someone returning a Wii. The security guy froze and told the guy that since it was launched, this is the first Wii ever to come back.
There are a few people that I know that are still looking for a one. It is definitely hit or miss.

I didn’t get my at launch and I was so bummed out. I literally had dreams of getting a Wii almost every night. One magical day though in early January my dad woke me up and told me to rush to the mall as they had some that they’d sell first come first serve, no reserving. I was so happy. =D

Got my Wii on launch. Bought 2 more for friends/family at target on a sunday morning got there about an hour before doors open both times.
This was in March and April and both sundays had about 20 people in line.
Bought a 4th at best buy on a sunday morning this summer. 5 people in line.
Ended up that person I bought the Best Buy unit for already got one that sunday so I brought it back to return at 8:45 PM. The store closed at 9PM. The unit I returned sold before the store closed. I swear almost every time I’m in an electronics dept I hear someone asking about the damn things. This christmas should be crazy.

I’m sitting on one to sell after Thanksgiving… unless I run into someone in dire need, then I’d sell it for the base price plus tax I paid… at least until the Auction goes up.

I got mine Jan 2007 (i was out fo the country until then). Did the camping out thing and managed to be first in line at a Best Buy.
This year, the kids at the Church Youth Group I run have high hopes of getting one for each of the four (4!) that want one. Alas, I just haven’t seen any, and I’ve been trying pretty hard. Woe to the children who will be disappointed this winter.

my mum desperately wants one for my family now that i’ve moved out to university and of course, taken my wii with me but i have a friend who works at GAME (in the UK) and she said my mum has absolutely no chance of getting one anywhere before christmas unless she decides to spend £300 ($600) on one on ebay.
Come on Nintendo, you’ve had a year now to reach the demand, I want to beat my brother down at strikers from the comfort of my own flat!

I know that Wii rocks, but I can’t help but feel like Associated Press is a bit one sided for Wii. I mean, considering the fact that the News Channel uses them.
