This does not work! I got the v2 straps and tried the customer service route telling them the slides come loose on kids smaller wrists. first I received this email:

It sounds like you may be putting the straps on incorrectly. To use them properly, slide the clip to the center of the wriststrap, so the two loops are like a figure eight. Slide your hand into the loop that's furthest away from the controller. Slide the clip to your wrist. Now, as you play, the clip will tend to grip a little tighter. (If you put your hand through the loop closest to the controller, the clip will tend to get looser as you play.)

You can order replacement Wii Remote wrist straps via Nintendo's Online Store (http://store.nintendo.com). When you find what you're looking for, click the "Buy" button next to the item, then follow the instructions to check out using your credit card. If you wish to pay by check or money order, complete the process as if you were going to pay by credit card. At the end, click the button marked "Print Mail-In Form" to generate a printable order form.

If you would like to order by phone using your credit card, please call our Consumer Service line at 1-800-255-3700. Representatives are available to take your order or provide mail-order instructions between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time, seven days a week.

Sincerely,
Mike Chandler
Nintendo of America Inc.

I then insisted I knew how to use the straps and wanted the locking ones, and then received this email:

I'm glad you contacted Nintendo about wrist straps for the Wii Remotes. While we are typically able to provide written responses to those who email us, in this particular instance the issue you’ve brought up is one that requires that we discuss it with you directly in order to collect additional details and provide you with the best solution.

Our representatives are waiting to speak with you. At your earliest convenience, please contact Nintendo's Consumer Service Department by calling 1-800-255-3700 any time between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time, seven days a week.

Sincerely,
Kurt Wagner
Nintendo of America Inc.

If anyone who has previously ordered the v2 straps has had any luck getting the newest straps please let me know the secret.

[...] For those still flailing wildly during Wii Sports, good news. Nintendo has released the fourth version of its Wii-mote strap and giving them away. For free! Remember, these have little lock thingy that keeps the strap from loosening. Nintendo’s packaging the updated straps with its products and is also giving out four per serial number to those who need them. How nice of them! Just provide the necessary info on the Nintendo site. I’m curious: Do people continue to swing their Wii-mote around all crazy like? Request one here [Nintendo via Infendo] [...]

How is it not necessary? I hate my current 2.0 straps, they always loosen around my wrists. It's annoying.

I just used the original strap replacement form as I never got replacement straps in the first place. I've been using 1.0 straps since launch with no problems.

I received 4 of the v2.0 straps. I used the webform and sent this:

----------
I would like to request the new wiimote locking straps. Pertinent information below.
wii serial number: xxxxx
My Name
555 My Address
Mytown Mystate, 55555
thank you.

I received this reply:

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Wii Remote wrist straps. The free replacement offer for straps was made available for consumers who had purchased their Wii Remotes back in November and December of 2006 and received the original version of the strap. If you have a later version of the strap, it is not necessary to replace them with the most current version. More information on the original strap replacement offer is available at:

http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/strapreplace.jsp
----------

My guess is, they misunderstood what I was asking for, or they're making it harder to get free straps!

@ Jack

Yeah, I still have my ORIGINALS.
You see, if you do not act like a moron, and you hold tight the Wii mote, there is nothing to worry about, seriously.
However, if you have kids and a nice LCD tv, I see why people might be interested in getting the " better" ones.

For me, with no kids , my originals are just fine. My HD LCD is safe.

I sent this in to Infendo almost 3 weeks ago! Anyways if you want the wrist straps do what I did (I already used my serial number to get 4 version 2.0 wrist straps). Write down a friends or relatives serial number for their wii who are not going to get the new wrist straps and enter it in and get the new ones for yourself! worked for me!!!

Jeff^

That link is if you havn't already ordered ver 2.0. Since I already ordered 2.0 through that order form, they wouldn't let me again. That's when you send them a written request.
