Sure we’ll use the Wiimote when applicable, but for virtual console, GameCube, and non-motion sensing Wii games (Smash Bros.) which controller do you plan on using? Classic Controller (left) or GameCube’s? Remember, Nintendo stressed “not to throw away your GameCube controllers” for use on some new Wii games, so it looks like we have a choice.
Your pick?

Personally I’d probably use the gamecube controller more if given the option. Not saying I wouldn’t take advantage of the Wii remote though.
GC controller for me too.
I wonder if Nintendo will have some type of System return deal.
Do you have a GC? Send it in and get a $50 off coupon for “Wii”!
Why choose?
For some games, like N64 Virtual Console titles, I’m sure I’ll pick the GCN controler because of the more comfortable positioning of the analog stick.
For SNES and NES games, I’m sure I’ll use the Wii shell.
I’ll have my cake and eat it too.
As I don’t have a GC I’ll probally just stick with the shell controller. Unless it turns out to not be all that comfortable for some games then I may pick up a wavebird. having that receiver box sticking out from the Wii would be really ugly though
Im using the remote for all the Wii games, SNES, and NES games. For the GCN games and N64 games I’m going to use the Wavebird. I don’t like the classic controller they’ve made.
I have a few questions -
Has the “Shell” controller been replaced with the Classic controller? I know that there is the duck hunt gun-shell thing – but the often spoke of general shell for ‘regular’ gaming – has that been replaced with the classic controller?
Is the classic controller wired?
Most importantly though, Does this milk smell bad to you?
I’ll most likely keep my 2 more functional GC pads, and buy 2 VC pads. If we can use the VC ones for Smash, I’ll be happy then.
Yes, don’t drink it.
Also, I’d like to hold the classic controller before passing judgement. I thought the GameCube controller looked uncomfortable when I first saw it, but it’s one of the most comfortable controllers I’ve used. It looks pretty small and I have big hands, so I’ll have to wait and see.
Also, from previous posts and photos, the wire from the classic controller clicks into the base of the Wii Remote. So it’s wireless from couch to Wii, but wired from controller to your lap or table or cat.
Lets not forget this controller

Its the Hori Digital Controller, basicly a SNES controller, witht the ABYX buttons like a GCN controller, and the Z in a weird place.. Perfect for SNES/NES?

I don’t really care, i like the look on the new, classic or what ever controller. It’s something that im looking forward to play.My GameCube,im going to give it away to my little brother with one (59) memory card,2 controllers NO GAMES he has to learn to buy and use is money wisely.I have over 20 games for my GameCube and 11 games for my DS.
I definitely will be using my GC controllers (I have so many of them!), whenever appropriate. Best controller design ever, at least until the freehand controller showed up.
My buddy here at work recently got a 360 (and is waiting to pre-order the Wii of course), and I have to say, MS’s new gamepad is quite awesome. It has almos the same layout as a PSone controller, but without the painful curvature of the the dual-shock. It’s a nice comfortable blend between the two.
But still, with the exception of 3rd-party games that felt awkward on the GC controller, I still love my GC pads the best. It’s just so comfortable.
Well seeing that the Wii Classic Controller is still in concept mode, I’ll have to wait till the final controller is in my hands before I actually judge it.
I don’t think it will be keeping that wire to the Remote..unless Nintendo has another secret….
Right now the Classic Controller is ahead, because, have you ever tried to play Game Boy Advance games on the Wavebird? awkward.
Depends. I’m assuming the Classic Controller will be lighter than the GameCube Controller — I really dislike the feel of light controllers. Of course, I’ll probably used the Classic Controller more just because. I’m actually hoping we can use it [Classic Controller] with all Revolution games, as I really don’t foresee myself using the Remote extensively.
don’t you think its a bit early to be asking this question? none of us have tried the new one out yet. its hard to make a meaninful decision without even trying it. that said i will probably not use the new one unless it comes with the Wii, i have 4 GC controlers, i dont think i want to spend more money on the “classic” one if i dont need to.
I definitely like the Wii Virtual Console Controller. I never had a Wavebird, but I also had bad experiences with one. I’m looking forward to what Nintendo is offering for the next gen.
Does the classic controller have rumble?
Will they move the Z buttons at the top to somewhere decent?
Will I ever understand Lost?
Is it possible to win the National Lottery?
Will my hair always be Ginger?
Does this post make any sense?
Will Nintendo ever make a decent dpad again?
Will Nintendo ever remake the best light gun in the world (the Zapper) or will they keep making stupid things like shot guns and super scopes?
Will I ever play with my Wii in public?
Will they ever let me on the Infendo podcast?
Will my girlfriend ever take me seriously when all I talk about is playing tennis and duck hunt with a TV remote
All of this and more in Rowan’s weekly bout of nonsense, only on Infendo.
And just for the record, there is a clip on the back of the classic pad for the revmote to go in.
I dont really understand the sense of this classic controller. Isn’t the normal wiimote when u turn it 90° just perfect for Snes and Nes Games? And for N64 Games the position of the analog sticks is not comfortable I think. I even think that my Xbox 360 controller for windows which I use for emulated N64 Games on my PC is more comfortable for N64 Games than the Nintendo Classic Controller.
A sideways Wiimote does not have L,R,X or Y for SNES. It looks like it could be a good NES controller.
The GameCube XYBA layout is significantly different than the SNES pad. (Try to hold down Y and hit B to run & jump a la Super Mario World)
Some people aren’t bugged by this as much as I am. I love the GC controller but I don’t want to use it for games designed for the XYBA diamond. I’ll be picking up a classic controller for SNES games.
Well… I don’t know which I will preffer at the moment, though I intend on getting a bunch of NES games and the wiimote will do fine for those I presume…
As for the GC controler itself… well, it will be the best for GC games and… a bunch of others… Now… The WaveBird, I think they should integrate WaveBird support right in to the Wii… I mean… it would be nice if you didn’t need to plug in the resiever in to the Wii breaking its astetic apeal… and even the wired GC controlers would brake the clean look the Wii has…
I would love they integrate WaveBird suport in to the Wii… a simple on screen option would be fine to set which frequency goes to which WaveBird…
That would be neat…

integrating wavebird into Wii is a great idea. Let’s hope some nintendo dude is reading this blog! Though I don’t know how difficult it would be.
it’d like to try out the “classic” Wii controller before I make a judgement. The GC contoller is a great design for most action/adventure games. not so great for fighters, though (with the exception of the superb japanese 4-on-4 Naruto fighting games).
I ,personally, would play with the classic controller. I haven’t experienced it yet, but I’m sure that it’ll be comfortable.
gamecube all the way
I like the Cube controller for N64, WiiWare and Wii titles on the Wii.
I like the Classic controller for all the other WiiVC games except NES. The stand alone Wiimote for NES games.
