The worst 1,000 Wii points you’ll ever spend: SPOGS

Monday, July 7th, 2008 at 10:23pm by Jake

blah!I can only hope you read this before you jumped on the Wii shop channel to download the latest Wiiware title, SPOGS. To be blunt…this game is bad. Really bad. So bad that the Infendo staff was a little scared to download this title for a review. Unfortunately I took the bait. IGN’s review nicely sums up my experience with SPOGS.

This is as bad as it gets. SPOGS Racing is ugly, boring, and sports some of the worst racing AI ever. It’s an absolute joke that D2C is charging money for this. SPOGS looks like someone’s first go at homebrew developing.

Read the entire review to see one of the lowest scores ever given to a “game” at IGN. Please don’t buy this! I don’t even want to write about this game anymore. Blah!

Any readers get suckered into this deal?

Man, they should’ve just released SBCG4AP instead of this load of crap.

So I guess SPOGS= Steaming Pile Of Gross Sh*t?

I took one look at the video and passed BIG time on this one

And now we know why they haven’t released a try-before-you-buy mechanism for wii ware.

They may also be filling the channel with crap leading into E3 so they can send out some press-worthy goodies.

I’d rather them skip a week than release this.

WiiWare is turning into a huge bait-and-switch. Before launch we hear about a bunch of titles, and some of them (say 25%) sound really cool. At launch a few of those really cool things are released.

Since then we get “World of Goo is coming” and “SBCG4AP is coming” but what actually appears is lousy. It’s like going to a restaurant and having the waiter tell you “Yes, we have prime rib, but we will not give it to you today. Would you like this crap sandwich while you wait?”

Dear Nintendo: Please treat WiiWare like a retail outlet. Post release dates, just like it was selling in a store. Release it when it is done, just like it was selling in a store. I want all the things from WiiWare that I get from retail products: ship dates, re-release reviews, and a selection of more than one game at a time!

I’ve only bought Lost Winds and that was after weeks of hand wringing and and review reading. I got it and I’m glad I did. But yeah, not to worry, I will never purchase anything off of the Wiiware without giving it MUCH consideration first.

See, these are downloads. They’re not going to sell out on release day. Why would anyone blindly buy these things without doing the appropriate amount of research.

Jake, my heart goes out to you for taking one for the team…
    but at what cost?
    at what cost?
And your efforts were in vain, for IGN blazed the path before you.

Infendo unite, we must make sure this game only sells the 2 copies that we already know about. We must vote with our dollars and teach these devs that we are in fact connoisseurs.

Nintendo needs to be a prick about quality standards. Nintendo SOQ should return with an iron fist, whether it pisses off third parties or not.

there have been several releases I’ve been pleased with. TV Show King, Lost Winds, PoP, Toki Tori and Magnetica Twist all get regular play in my house.

I think WiiWare is going to really change the way I game. Instead of paying 50 bucks every other week on games I may or may not ever really play, I can spend 10 bucks a week and get something fun and bite sized (which is really best for my lifestyle now anyway). If it sucks? I only lost 10 bucks.

WiiWare seems to be turning into a similiar situation that the Wii software is having. A few gems in a pile of crap. Granted WiiWare hasn’t been out long but the trend is looking the same as the Wii; shovelware being put out to cash in a quick buck on the popularity of the Wii. I’m to the point that in all 3 phases of the Wii (Software, VC, and WiiWare) are disappointing me. Software at least appears to be getting better, but the entire WiiShop Channel has been a downer for a long time now.

The only games I’ve downloaded are Super Mario 64 and Defend Your Castle, both being great games.
