Press Release: REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Nintendo is setting the stage for a blockbuster summer with the announcement of two hotly anticipated product releases. The new Wii MotionPlus™ accessory will hit U.S. retailers on June 8, taking the motion-sensing controls of the popular Wii™ system to new levels of precision and performance. What’s more, these control enhancements will be on vibrant display when the Wii Sports Resort™ game launches on July 26, offering a beach-themed follow-up to the groundbreaking Wii Sports™ game. Wii Sports comes packed with the Wii console. It grew into a worldwide phenomenon and continues to attract millions of new players to the world of video games. Each Wii Sports Resort game comes packed with a single Wii MotionPlus accessory.

When used with specially designed games, Wii MotionPlus tracks players’ movements in finer detail and with greater accuracy than ever before, building upon the innovative wireless function of the motion-sensing Wii Remote™ controller. Even the slightest twist of the wrist or turn of the body is replicated exactly on the TV screen, allowing users to become even more immersed in Wii game play. Designed for easy attachment to the Wii Remote controller, the Wii MotionPlus accessory will be offered at an MSRP of $19.99.

Wii Sports Resort takes the inclusive, fun and intuitive controls of the original Wii Sports to the next level, introducing a whole new set of entertaining and physically immersive activities. With the deep control enhancements of Wii MotionPlus, veteran Wii users and newcomers alike can enjoy unprecedented gaming precision as they cruise on a water scooter, duel with swords, throw a Frisbee® and much more. Wii Sports Resort and Wii MotionPlus will be offered together at an MSRP of $49.99.

“Wii MotionPlus represents a new evolution in video game control. The variety of fun games in Wii Sports Resort show off its incredible precision,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Developers around the world are busy working on new ways to incorporate Wii MotionPlus controls into inventive experiences for consumers.”

Balls no, $20 is too much.

Damn, that’s $90 now for a functioning Wii controller, thx Nintendo!

$20 isn’t bad if we’re being honest with ourselves, and it becomes even more bearable if publishers like EA have managed to get it bundled with their summer EA Sports releases. $60 for a Tiger Woods that’s only playable on the Wii, and could very ell redefine what a great golf title is? Please, take my money.

I’m also curious to see when Nintendo will start selling the “complete” Wiimote with MotionPlus built in. Maybe spring 2010? Probably $60 for the whole thing is my guess. And people will, of course, buy it.

And to everyone who says “this should have been built in from the beginning,” please at least attempt to understand how tech works. This thing would have been incredibly expensive back in 2006, which would have upped the price of the console, and would have defeated the purpose of the console.

With Wii Remotes pricing at $US39.99, $19.99 for a Nunchaku and now $19.99 for the Wii MotionPlus, that means it costs $80 for a fully loaded Wii Remote.

    WTF!!!!!!

…soon to be followed by an even longer free Wii love glove? I hope they make it sleeker looking. I can’t stand the one they have right now. Then again I don’t use wrist straps so I guess an ugly love glove is better than none.

As far as the price, $19.99 is about what you’d expect. I don’t think I will buy it until enough “good” games demand it.

It seems like it will be packaged with enough games that’s its price is pretty much a non issue. Buy wii sports resort, and tiger woods and you’ve got two of them for fairly cheap. What did you guys expect they’d be selling them for $5, this is a kinda risky move Nintendo isn’t going to do it with no profit margin.

Ok, I lied. It’s a day one purchase for me. Why? I just found out that Sega’s Virtua Tennis 2009 for the Wii is going to beat out EA and will be the first game to support Wii Motion Plus!

I’ve said on here a million times how excited I am about Sega’s games. Now I’m totally stoked!

I actually though it would cost more. Gyros are expensive. Another thing is nintendo could package two of these with the Wii now when you buy it.

This is funny though. The hardcore are going to cry about this but the casuals will buy it up when resort comes out. WOW $20 is too much for 1 to 1 really. Ok who bought wii fit? Or better yet who paid over $300 for a game console?

Seriously guys $20 is not a lot for this added function.

    I still think is overpriced.
