Wii Milestone – 100th game added to Virtual Console
Friday, June 1st, 2007 at 11:00am by David
On Monday, June 4th, Nintendo will make Zelda II: The Adventure of Link available for the Wii’s Virtual Console. This marks the 100th game added to the list of titles available in the Wii Shop Channel.
Nintendo hasn’t really ever provided sales data for the Shop Channel before, but they let us know what the top five downloads are thus far:
1) Super Mario Bros. (NES)
2) Super Mario 64 (N64)
3) Mario Kart 64 (N64)
4) Super Mario World (SNES)
5) The Legend of Zelda (NES)
With 40% of their top 5 made up by N64 games, Nintendo needs to put some more titles from that console on the market. What games are you still waiting to see added to the Virtual Console?

Super Mario RPG, absolutely. I’m with you on more N64 games, because, despite popular belief, the N64 had all kinds of crazy-good games (albeit, a fact they owed deeply to Rare, before Rare got all Star-Fox-Adventures on us…) However, the Super Nintendo still has my heart chained up in a box somewhere… For example, Uniracers will be great… however, I wish Nintendo would have gone the extra mile and made games like Uniracers and Mario Kart 64 online multiplayer compatible… that was the dream I had when I first heard about the VC being available. Honestly, it would be SO much more worth the cost if that was possible. Maybe a future add-on? I’m hopin’.

A presence of Bubble Bobble is sorely lacking from the VC. My girlfriend’s orignal cart freezes ALL THE TIME, and I need a more reliable source.

Anything from N64 is welcome on the VC!! Those games look fantastic through Wii’s progressive scan!
I am waiting for Yoshi’s Story, Turok, and Pilot Wings 64… and I would definitely put in my 1000 points for Shadows of the Empire!

Lufia 2 and Landstalker. Oh and James Pond 3.
SoTE was good too, and Rogue Squadron and Battle for Naboo wouldn’t hurt either. Come on LucasArts.

Ive played and beaten every Zelda out there besides the Philips CD ones. Zelda II was by far the worst of the series to mark the 100th game release on the VC with it is kind of rediculous.

Super Metroid, Super Mario RPG, Yoshi’s Island, POW, Castlevania III…
It will never happen, but SotN would be the most kickass addition, ever. And hey, the 360 got it, why not the Wii?
June 2nd, 2007 at 4:31 pm
Probably because SOTN is a CD based game and is likely way too big for the Wii.
I’m still wanting Castlevania: Bloodlines for the Genesis. Other than Rondo of Blood, it’s the only Castlevania game I’ve never beaten.

the wiimote has showed that it’s the perfect controller for console-based shooters yet the virtual console is completely devoid of light gun games. i’d kneecap an old lady if nintendo put gumshoe out on the virtual console.
any nintendo execs have some elderly inlaws you don’t like? let me know…
