Wii fist: The image of a generation?

Thursday, July 9th, 2009 at 11:51am by Boss Hog

Wii fist

Kotaku, the world’s largest video game blog, wonders if the “Wii Remote raised in fist” has become the image of a generation. The motif was first seen in 2005 on the cover of Edge, followed by Nintendo Power in 2006, and this year in the form of an upcoming book. I don’t know about you, but I’d say it’s the image of a generation. Sort of like “Power to the people with more accessible control.”

Haha, the Edge version looks like crap.

Makes sense. Corny as it sounds, Nintendo could very well have saved video games (from the recession) while simultaneously expanded it to new markets (this includes non-trads as well as older 80’s guys like myself who yearned for a return to “retro” gaming”).

If there was no Wii this “generation” we’d be stuck with super realistic shooting games and little else. That’s right: No Sony Home, no Xbox NXE, no Natal. It took Nintendo’s image as “fun for all” to get these technologies in the door. Whether or not it will be Nintendo that sees them all the way to fruition is debatable, because anything can happen, but right now the odds (and monies) are in their favor.

The irony is that the very people who complain about Nintendo are the same ones that will thank them in five years for making gaming a powerful force in the entertainment field. Whether they’ll make that show of thanks publicly is doubtful, but that’s to be expected.

Nuh-uh, that’d be the Obama Hope image. :p

(Unless you mean video game generation, and then sure.)

Nintendo simply being profitable is the only thing saving the video game industry’s total revenue.

If you take away Nintendo’s contribution this generation, The whole industry would have lost billions of dollars, because Sony and MS are bleeding out cash and every third party combined has negative income.

Yeah. Nintendo saved gaming again, Jack. Really wish more third parties would realize that and get the hell on board as opposed to dispnesing haterade and continuing to merge and die.

    lol, Jack, your the best.

Your one of the most intelligent fanboys around.
Aside from me. A good representative of how you can love a console and a company for doing so much for the hobby you love.
It doent preclude you from loving other consoles at all. It simply means a person acknowledges the unique contribution of an entity and expresses how that entity has touched their lives more then most others.

Nintendo may not make everybodies favorite games, some may hate most or all of nintendos games, but the fact is that nintendo is the best thing to happen to the gaming industry, and continues to best itself, since the beginning of gaming.

I dont mean just in the quality of its titles, but in the way it runs its business to the fact that its always trying to look forward and make sure gaming thrives for more then just money, but for the love of the game.

You wanna know how its about more then just money to them?
How many niche titles they make themselves, license to third parties, how many peripherals they make trying to press the bounderies of interaction.

They work very hard to make gaming acceptable in the public eye and allow us to keep gaming in freedom.

They dont have to do any of this stuff, they dont have to have quality hardware or great customer service, or positive public awareness works.

Sony nor microsoft do, and they are bleeding money for reasons aside from their game and console sales. (Well, sony is likely still losing money on their console so sales is a part of their bleeding, lol, but you know what i mean)

Ok, rant is done and sure to cause controversy from people who think all companies have to care about is money.

I mean, I am anti-capitalist, and I stil praise a company when i see an example of how a company should be.
