What happens to Metroid Channel after the game launches?

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007 at 1:30pm by Jack

Metroid Prime preview channelA quick question… When Metroid Prime 3: Corruption launches next week, what is going to happen with the preview channel?

I have a few ideas kicking around in my head, but I wanted to hear what you guys thought. Something has to happen, right? The preview is a real live Channel on the Wii’s menu screen. Are we all just going to delete it when the game launches?

I think not. What’s going to happen?!

Is it possible that Nintendo could use it to have game updates, like new maps or missions or playable characters?

Am I asking for too much?

  2. Hunter says...

I would expect that it will become a straight up previews channel that will re-skin itself to hype whatever particular game is next up.

Nah, they’ll keep it active for a long time, probably a year or two after lauch, and hope that if you DON’T by Metroid at launch, you’ll pick it up later. It wouldn’t make sense for them to just ditch it. Heck, the FIRST Prime Web site is still up. They didn’t take that down. This will still be exactly what it is now: A movie channel. Any game updates will be done throught the in-game menu.

    ^ what Hunter said ^

I figured from the beginning, with Nintendo announcing that MP3:C would be an “evolving” game via the internet, that the channel was indeed the MP3:C interface to the MP3:C update site.

Future possibilities? It could morph into the interface for all “evolving” games in the future. Surely we wouldn’t need a channel for every game that is to come out with internet connectivity.

    DEMO Channel!!!!! *crosses fingers*

  7. Fank says...

Stop with all the moronic wishful thinking about a demo channel.

    3 words:

    Free. Online. Service.

Seriously, think about it for a second. Nintendo IS NOT Sony.

ya sony has free online and demos so nitnendo should too.

    Right.

Nintendo are very cheap with their online offerings, I wouldn’t be surprised if the channel just sits there doing nothing and we just end up deleting it from our Wii’s memory.

  9. Wii Wii says...

I doubt anything will happen to the channel.
It will remain as it was intended to be, mealy an advertising tool for Nintendo to promote Metroid Prime 3 on the Wii.

I think it will just stay this way as a advertisement channel, which after all, is all that the Metroid preview channel is truly is anyways.

Eventually it will format your saves per Mother Brain’s wishes. ;)

I’d say the channel preview is hard coded in so there isn’t way to really make it anything other than MP3 specific. I’m with the ones saying it’ll continue to live as it is after the launch, it’ll be a client to pull down MP3 preview videos.

It’ll hop over to my 1GB SD card “archive” of Channels I no longer use.

My big complaint about the Metroid Prime 3 Preview channel is that you don’t know that it has a new preview available. Couldn’t there be a little “*new*” graphic that showed up in its icon on the main Wii Channel screen?

I agree with @Hunter AND @Wii Wii, it will remain as the preview channel for future advertisment more than just first party games ..

I think the preview channel will expand , it will stay MP3 mainly maybe until it reaches the million mark sold and still preview others games ..

example : click on the preview channel select a game trailer ..

    1) Select to view: Mp3
    2) Select to view: SMG
    3) Select to view: SSBB
    4) Select to view: No More Heroes
    5) ” ” ” : RE: Umbrella
    6) ” ” ” : Mario Kart.

The demo channel, IF, they will be one will be a seperate channel.

  14. BlockSS says...

fixed : what I wanted to say was, that MP3 maybe will stay as a preview demo until it reaches the million mark sold and still preview other games before NINTENDO decides to remove it .
My opinion is, MP3 will stay and Nintendo will add more to the list like the example above shows it.

It’ll just be either the following:

    A dead channel
    A channel with videos

  16. KillerHeroes says...

We’ll get a message from Nintendo telling us to delete it.

  17. Sharp says...

It’s a virus. On the day MP3 is released, it will brick our wiis.

  18. dlindema says...

Though they probably wont do anything with the channel, I bet we will see a demo channel as our “September Surprise”.

  19. paq says...

It will get wings and fly over to Europe… Hopefully…

  20. ScottyD says...

I already deleted. It had me excited thinking it was a playable demo only to be let down with a video. No need to hold onto that.
