Why your game sucks: Ghostbusters for Wii

It’s a bland melange of every other title out there with the greatest voice cast in videogame history.  I’m sorry, but the Ghostbusters could NOT pick up large rocks with their proton packs.  What do you folks think?  [I did, however, watch the movie again last night and it is still one of the funniest movies ever, even edited on AMC.]

If i understand the mechanics correctly, the large rocks/objects are covered in slime which allows them to lift it with their proton packs. That aside, I think they just wanted to make it simple instead of having all 5 ghostbusters lifting the object.

As for the storyline, it wasn’t bad, except it was basically exactly the same as the first movie (well at least the enemies were).

The camera control with the Wii remote was a bit annoying, but at least you could point and shoot.

Overall I didn’t think it was a bad game (not the greatest either). It was relatively short, but I found it to be fun. I have yet to try it with a friend in co-op mode, that might be better.

Best voice cast, yes. Except with one glaring problem. Bill Murray completely half-assed the whole project. He had few lines, and the ones he did, he sounded bored. He’ll do anything if you through money at him, but he won’t put forth much effort. Did you notice that whenever you’re partnered up with one of the real Ghostbusters (you see what I did there?), it’s never Venkman. In fact, after the Stay Puft incident, he’s barely in the game. The one time you’re alone with him is when you save him, and he doesn’t say anything. Come on, Bill. You’re a legend to millions. At least TRY.

I havent played it yet… but i guess it sucks? should i try the ps360 versions instead?

It by no means sucks. I like the motion controls for busting ghosts. It made me feel good. (oh, see, I did it again.) Except that, yeah, the camera control was a little wonky. And alot of people prefer the cartoony look. Akroyd for one. While I normally prefer cartoonier graphics to realism and its needless grittiness and bloom lighting, I think I would have rather played this looking like the movies.

This post makes me a saaaaad Panda.

I’ll still get it, though. :p

The game seemed like it was made for my kids… but they’ve only seen Ghostbusters because I made them watch it. The game should’ve been for me, I’m the one that saw the movie in theaters 25 years ago.

And the Wii version of the characters are creepy. Why does Ray look like he has Down’s Syndrome?

    BAGH!

    I wholeheartedly disagree.

Although I’ll admit it has it’s faults, I’ve really enjoyed my time with Ghostbusters Wii, and I don’t at all regret my purchase. I do feel it’s too short, and more could have and should have been done with it, but it’s a worthwhile play for fans, I think – and better than a lot of franchise games on the Wii. The “picking up rocks” thing does bother me a little, but I can buy into their weak sauce explanation for the sake of gameplay.

Still, I’m looking forward to trying the PC/360 version.

I have both versions and the only thing that makes me lean more towards the 360 version is the online. The amount of modes and the whole “ghost hunt” feature ( that gives you that pokemon vibe) is what keeps bringing me back for more. Great game!

bustin makes me feel good on the 360.

everyone says murray phoned it in. well he still makes me laugh. his constant berating of the rookie is pretty funny. i definitely disagree with the critiques of his performance.

1 paragraph post though? i was expecting more.

The game isn’t great (on any console), but is fun enough and filled with fan-service. I think the decision about whether or not it’s “good” will depend on your expectations going in, but it’s worth trying for pretty much any Ghostbusters fan.

Beg, borrow, rent or buy… do what you have to, but give the game a shot before buying into these silly “why your game sucks” comments.

Sorry, but on those lines, I still think Stripes and The Blues Brothers were far better comedies, and worthy of some kind of homage like this one (I’m not sure a video game based on those would work, though…)

@Drahken: I don’t think Bill Murray half-assed the project: he sounded bored in the Ghostbusters movies, too! He was just being true to his performance in those films…

Stripes was retarded. The Blues Brothers is classic. Ghostbusters is somewhere in-between, but definitely has some epic lines.
