Microsoft today unveiled its response to Nintendo Wii. Dubbed “Project Natal,” the upcoming attachment promises to transform controls on Xbox 360, further than even the Wii has. Some very cool-looking demos were shown, but I’m reserving judgment until I get my hands on the thing. You? What do you think of Project Natal?

“I’m reserving judgment until I get my hands on the thing.”
Don’t you mean in the thing? Or something?

Sega Activator. That is all I have to say.
Am I the only one who wants this thing just to trash talk that kid?
Seriously, I can’t see much practical application for this thing, but that’s what I said about the wiimote..
Natal is interesting but I want to see more. Concept wise, it sounds hot but also like the Eye Toy. Nothing wrong with that since Sony isn’t using their camera very much anyway. It’s a shame Ninty didn’t try this but maybe they can’t get the technology to work right or figured it was too expensive.
My real concern is why Microsoft thinks they need a Wii Killer. Not only is it too late for that but it also shows that they haven’t learned the true lesson of the Nintendo strategy. Remember the whole “Blue Ocean” thing? Microsoft needs to focus on the desires and needs of their user base as well as figure out who is in their wider market so as to cater to them. Does Natal help with this? Maybe. Time will tell.
Honestly, though, I’m tired of Wii killers and PS3 killers and 360 killers and what not. I don’t have a PS3 or a 360 but there are games on those systems that I want. When I’m financially able to buy those systems then I will. Nintendo only got my money because I’m a sucker for Mario and Zelda games (And I got the Wii for Christmas anyway.)
Got both systems, and Project Natal looks really awesome IMO. To all you people who say its basically another EyeToy, buy the system, use it, then look back at Natal. Another thing: Modern Warfare 2!
