I think this game looks awesome. I love how the animations look, which I’m guessing is what the flip book part at the beginning of the video was trying to convey.
I can understand your point of view, suggesting that it should be on Wiiware since it doesn’t seem to have a very complex engine, but I know I’d personally be willing to pay full price for the game. I have LOVED the Wario games since Super Mario Land 3 (which is still my favorite), and this one looks like a winner to me.
Laird HexDSL – I dunno what you’re talking about, I have no troubles using the Wiimote as such. I mean, I suppose it can take some getting used to? Just suck it up. :-p
Why in the world is not megaman 9 made in this style!!!!!!
I love the retro quality on MM9 but c’mon feels like a waste not to do it on this animated style.
I totally DIG the way Wario Land: Shake It! looks on Wii. A PURE 2-D game with great graphics and sound. Although, I can’t help but imagine that if Nintendo ever decides to make a NEW Mario anime, they’ve got the perfect formula right here with Shake It!
Many of you are taking my words the wrong way. I’m not in any way bringing down the fact that Wario Land Shake It is a good game. I just thought that this type of game would be perfect for episodic contect to be released every few weeks or so. Somehow along the way that simple idea turned into…
“I thought it was Sony that was killing 2-D, but it, in fact, seems to be snobby elitist hardcore gamers.”
I have nothing against 2-D games, but I won’t pay $50 for this game. The game looks very nice, the price don’t. Sorry, but I’ll continue buying great 2-D games for $30-$35 on my DS.
@ Jake: I think Jeff was referring to a lot of the snobby elitist hardcore gamers found in this message area, not necessarily to you. And I have to agree with Jeff on this one. Nintendo throws us a glorious bone in the form of a gorgeous 2D game with perfect cartoon visuals (the youtube clip doesn’t do it justice, but I understand the necessity) featuring a character who has been redirected mostly to wild minigame compilations. Anyone who likes classic Nintendo should be clamoring for this one, and I don’t understand why everyone thinks it should be condensed into a simple WiiWare title, episodic or not.
The game clearly has many assets and effects, a lot of animation (both in-game and cutscene), and we can only assume a heavy dose of music.
If the game is long enough, I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t be worth the purchase, even at full price. I swear, nobody respects simplicity in video games anymore. It’s almost like, if we’re not using all of the damn buttons on the controller it’s a mortal sin.
But hell, even if it was a downloadable WiiWare title, most people would still complain because that’s what they’re inclined to do. Look at Mega Man 9, for instance. It’s already gotten two, maybe three complaints in some form or another on this article alone, and the article isn’t even ABOUT that game! But I suppose gamers will never be happy, and that’s why Nintendo has largely ditched us.
I hope that gives you guy something to think about.
And just so you know Jake, that wasn’t written directly toward you. I don’t think you’re being complainy at all. It sounded to me like you were giving a suggestion instead of just bitching about the game, and even though I don’t agree with your suggestion, I get it. Good on you.
After being heavily disappointed by WarioWorld back in the GCN era, where Nintendo Power made it sound good, I’ve made a habit of not buying Wario games.
Man, I don’t even need to put a comment here that makes sense, Andrew G. did all the work. And I can’t agree with him anymore than I do now, he posted my words exactly….
I wasn’t too happy with WarioWorld on the Cube and didn’t bother buying it after trying it in the store.

Wario Land Shaker looks great and shows a clear effort on Nintendo’s part. Even this fuzzy Youtube video shows to me it’s worth its asking price.
This supposed hardcore gamer is nothing more than a subjective self elitist view and has nothing to do with most of us whom aren’t excited about MM9.
With great games like both Castlevanias on the DS and Super Mario DS, Capcom’s MM9 is lazy and cheap. It’s use of retro isn’t exciting, not when games like Super Paper Mario Wii used pixel art in a fun and creative way, but then again, their 3D abominations of G’nG on the PSP were a worse blow to the series than Super G’nG on the SNES, so maybe MM9 is the best Capcom can do right now?
My problem with MM9 — not 2D games in general — is that it feels like it belongs under VC for 500pts. If and when I want to go back to my high school days of playing NES and SMS games, I go to that section. Under WiiWare, I look for games like Lost Winds. Games that aren’t stifled by high cost of development and limiting publishers.
You’d have to be a fool to think this game would be better on WiiWare.. You want reduced audio quality or less in general? You want all those intricate and very cartoon quality animations cut down? Did you enjoy playing MK Trilogy on the N64?
I really dont understand WHY people think a 2d game doesn’t deserve a full 50$ price. (frstOne, not Jack)
The value of the game is a subjective one, doesn’t matter if the devs took 10 years and powerfull farmrenders with Maya to make the game, or 3 months, doesnt matter if it is about blocks or it is about killing people while you are on drugs…
There are people who are willing to spend 70$ on a special edition of some freaking boring FPS 3d game with lots of shaders effects and cinematics, that they are going to play 3 days and give up.. but are not willing to spend 50$ on a game in 2d or 3d with a simple, fun concept that they are going to be playing 1-2 years.. just because “it is not 3d, it is not Big explosions graphics, stuff”
I dont understand this generation of gamers… they are… dumb
Waggle to do this, waggle to do that. They should’ve called it “Wario Land: Gimmick.”
Obviously, I’m not a fan of waggle for waggle’s sake, and this game looks to take that mentality to a whole new level. But aside from the shaking, the game itself is looking more promising.
You know, you’re right . After writting that I thought “hmm, maybe I wasn’t very clear there.”
I have bought warioware and trauma center on wii for $50, and both are basically 2-D games. And I bought them because they were brand new ways of playing video games. This wario game seems like a nice old-school game, and I’m not going to pay $50 for an old-school game, 2-D or 3-D. That kind of games is what I bought on DS for $30 – $35.
And maybe I’m wrong about this game, but that’s what I see on the youtube video. A 2-D platformer that I really think it worths $50 would be very nice, actually.
I should also ask, is the price of Wario Land: Shake It! confirmed to be $50?
@Bii: I’m not saying that all of the people unexcited about MM9 are the “elitist hardcore gamers” that I’m referring to, and I’m also not saying that everyone should have a reason to be excited about MM9 (because let’s face it, if you’ve never played a MM game before, you’re probably not going to be interested in this one, either). But Capcom decides to give gamers what they want – a true entry into the classic Mega Man series – and everyone complains. The simple fact of the matter is, this is a game that would have cost a lot of money back in the day, but now it’s being offered to people for $10. And despite the use of 8-bit graphics, it’s still a new game, built from the ground up (the reason why it is being released as a WiiWare title instead of a Virtual Console title).
And I don’t think it’s fair to compare Super Paper Mario’s use of pixel art to MM9: In SPM, it was to add a certain flavor to the game, but in MM9, it is the game. And honestly, had Capcom decided to make the game in 2.5D (3D graphics but 2D gameplay, as I’m sure you’re aware), it wouldn’t be up to snuff, especially when released on WiiWare, and think of how much worse the complaints would be.
Seriously, I don’t get why people think using 8-bit graphics is lazy! You don’t actually think Capcom would have let Inafune make a next-gen classic Mega Man title, do you? No, that would be too much of a risk. So they did the right thing and made what will probably be a great game for cheap, something they know they can sell to the people who have wanted it for so long. It’s not lazy, it’s smart business. I don’t imagine we’d have the opportunity to play another classic Mega Man title unless it was in the form it’s being presented.
But really, I guess what it all boils down to is, if you don’t like the idea of the game and you want to criticize the developer for providing pure fan service, then just don’t bother buying it. Vote with your wallet and buy something else.
Oh, and I would loooooove a Mario platform game in this graphics style! As long as the controls is tight as Mario Bros 3 and Mario World or even better!
2D Mario for Wii that is. Even though the D-pad on the Wiimote is damn too small! I want the size of the SNES gamepad. Does anyone know if there is a mod for that?? Please let me know if that is the case! Thanks in advance!!
10(2 levels each) episodes for $5 a piece? That’s a lot of space on the Wii.
Also the reason why I’m buying Strong Bad on the PC.
i borught a classic pad so i would not have to hold the will most like a mutant Sega Master System pad…. i could not play holding it like that.
I think this game looks awesome. I love how the animations look, which I’m guessing is what the flip book part at the beginning of the video was trying to convey.

Uhhhmm, y’know with music and movies and all that good stuf the game is probably a couple gigs. That’s a lot of fridge rearranging for no good reason.
reminds me a lot of a 2D sonic platformer
Why in the world is not megaman 9 made in this style!!!!!!
I love the retro quality on MM9 but c’mon feels like a waste not to do it on this animated style.
Wow, this looks like it’s gunna be the best SNES game ever! Oh wait, it’s on the Wii?
Probably better suited for DS, looks fun though.
I’ll be putting the $10 that I wasn’t going to spend on MM9 on this game.
I totally DIG the way Wario Land: Shake It! looks on Wii. A PURE 2-D game with great graphics and sound. Although, I can’t help but imagine that if Nintendo ever decides to make a NEW Mario anime, they’ve got the perfect formula right here with Shake It!
Heh no wonder 2-D is dying on consoles. Any attempt is met with “ZOMG DS GAME” or “Why not DOWNLOAD SERVICE?”
I thought it was Sony that was killing 2-D, but it, in fact, seems to be snobby elitist hardcore gamers.
What a shock.
Looks really good. Don’t see any reason why it should be any cheaper than full price or released in WiiWare instalments.

This trailer may have broken that habit.
Thank you, Andrew for clarifying the situation
This looks like it’s going to be a great game. Shaking for money seems pretty stupid though and I think it’ll grow old really fast.
The cartoon animations are really damn good.

I’ve been playing videogames for about 20 (twenty) years now and I’m looking forward to this game.
