Viva Piñata has rekindled my love for the DS

Months had passed since I last used my DS for personal gaming.

It certainly isn’t because I’ve lost interest in the handheld. Recent releases just hadn’t sparked my interest the way older games did.

Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise changed that, and I haven’t been able to put down my DS because of it.

I received the game from the good folks at THQ to review for another site, and I immediately fell in love with its beautiful visuals and addictive gameplay. Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise is the best game Rare has made since leaving Nintendo.

For those who care about superficial review scores as opposed to the full text, I gave the game an 8.5 out of 10. Not trying to pimp my wares, I simply want to spread the word about this great game.

If you’re also neglecting your handheld, Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise might help you rekindle your love affair with the Nintendo DS.

You can viva my piñata homie, I am blessed with a huge one, I even put on some peanut butter flavored glove on my piñata, sometimes. It has grown to a popular member of the community. You see, if you had just viva my piñata, you won’t have to bend over backward for another Rare’s shovel ware. I can’t believe anyone could actually promote something like Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise, go watch some porn, it will give you a better pocket paradise than whatever “that game is” could.

wat, rekindled? I never fell out of love with it, with the FFTA2 playing and all

I’m enjoying FFIII and FFIV back-to-back on my DS, then maybe complete all the Phoenix Wrights before DQIV, Prof Layton etc.

If there were no games to pique my interest aside from an xbox remake from M$, I’d probably try a different console.

  4. Yeah, get him, guys. Derek, how dare you offer your honest, informed opinion on the internet, let alone on a site focused on reviews and editorials?

Seriously though, if you don’t have any basis for your opinion, don’t bash someone who actually does.

Translation: Derek has actually played the game. Have you guys?

I haven’t, which is why I’m calmly reading this review, and taking his points without crapping myself. You see, that’s what I do. When I am unsure about getting a particular game, I tend to intelligently evaluate the various opinions and descriptions of a game, and then weigh it against my own likes and dislikes. Know why? Because I’m open-minded person who has better things to do than blindly bash people on the interwebs.

    You should try it sometime.

  5. RoyalRook says:

Hahaha, so you decided to bash my opinion about the game by jumping into the conclusion, that me or anybody who distrusted the review, are the ones who never played the game?
Horay to the guy who… what did you say? Oh, “Because I’m open-minded person who has better things to do than blindly bash people on the interwebs.” Yea nice, very nice. Would you like to try some of my craps? You never had some, you may like it.

  6. Kannon says:

Stop, there are too many games I can’t buy. argh.

  7. RoyalRook, you still haven’t said whether or not you’ve played the game. And I never bashed you. I made a statement about your inability to make a comment without talking about poo poo and wee-wees.

    Go troll somewhere else.

  8. Derek says:

Thanks, Instant_Awesome and Kannon. It’s nice to see there are still some people on this site who don’t act like 13-year olds who snuck onto the family computer while their parents are in the other room.

RoyalRook, what you wrote wasn’t an “opinion,” as you assert in your second pointless tirade. It was prepubescent garbage. Grow up, douche.

  9. InvisibleMan says:

What’s with the Viva Piñata hatred, RR and R? The original on Xbox was an excellent game (although too hectic after the 10th hour of playtime, something that I heard was corrected on the DS version), and Derek’s review of the DS version is one of many that say the game rocks!

Anyway, my DS has been getting more playtime this year than any other gaming platform I have. The best games of the year have come out for the little handheld, I say! In addition to VP:PP, check out Lock’s Quest, Etrian Odyssey II, and Disgaea DS, among a dozen others…

  10. Rydia says:

Well of course I’ve tried it (should’ve said so earlier I suppose). Made me want to snap my DS in half…annoying patronizing dumb game.

Welcome back with open arms to you, Rare, though you WOULD NOT BE MAKING DS GAMES IF YOUR XBOX OUTPUT SOLD WELL.

Of course, only geeks and otaku care about such things.
