Virtual Console Monday - Zelda II, Dead Moon, and more

Monday, June 4th, 2007 at 9:12am by David

Zelda II Box ArtFour new releases for today, including the 100th title added to the Wii Shop Channel:

Milon’s Secret Castle - NES
It is a world where music is the language of the people. An evil warlord from the north arrives and captures the castle. The princess is imprisoned deep within the castle, and the world’s musical instruments are taken and hidden away.

ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron - Genesis
During ToeJam and Earl’s trip back home, a number of Earthlings hitchhiked on their spaceship and are now infesting planet Funkotron. ToeJam and Earl must track down the Earthlings in order to capture them in large jars and ship them back to Earth in spaceships.

Dead Moon - TG16
This side-scrolling shooter includes a total of six scenes spanning areas from Earth to the moon. The story begins with a comet discovered in the vicinity of Pluto that is headed on a sudden collision course with Earth.

… and the 100th game in the Wii Shop Channel:

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link - NES
Link returns to Hyrule to search for the Triforce and to awaken Zelda from an endless sleep. Embark on a quest to find the Triforce of Courage and save Hyrule from ruin.

Dead Moon sounds rather ominous.  And I’ll just come right out and say it:  Zelda II drove me nuts.

Buying anything here?

Zelda 2 is tempting, but I don’t think it’s quite worth it. Kinda disappointing for the 100th game…

Not into any of those really, Toe Jam and Earl 2 isn’t bad. But I’m rather disappointed in this weeks titles. Honestly did anyone like Zelda II?? And aren’t there already a bunch of side scrolling space shooters!!!!

I throught Zelda II was still a pretty good game. But, it is the worst of the franchise if you don’t count the Philips abomonations.

i heartily disagree with you guys. I had a fantastic time with Zelda II and i’d gladly play through it again now, as an adult. I also had a lot of fun with Milon’s castle so I will probably purchase 2 games this week!

Zelda II has the best fighting of any of the 2D Zelda games. Also, I don’t know why no Zelda games since have used the experience points level-up system.

The more I think about it…how sweet would a Zelda game be that basically takes Link’s fighting style in Smash Bros. and allows you to control Link that way in a side-scrolling rpg/adventure??
