Virtual Console Monday - Star Fox 64, TMNT, and Dragon’s Curse

Monday, April 2nd, 2007 at 3:37pm by Staff

Early word on the street has three new titles releasing for the Virtual Console today:

Star Fox 64 (N64, 1000 Wii Points)
Players take the controls of their Arwing and complete 15 missions to reach the final objective: a showdown on Venom, the home planet of the interplanetary tyrant, Andross. Throughout the adventure, players have to accomplish challenging objectives in order to reach and conquer every mission.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES, 600 Wii Points)
Cowabunga! Players take control of the turtles in a half shell and rescue reporter April O’Neil from the clutches of the evil Shredder. Turtle Power!

Dragon’s Curse (TG16, 600 Wii Points)
After defeating the Mecha Dragon in the depths of the Dragon Castle, the wounded beast casts a spell on the hero, turning him into an ugly creature. To return to human form, he must find the Salamander Cross, which can break any curse. This side-scrolling action role-playing game is nonlinear, allowing players to venture freely.

Is TMNT worth an extra 100 points? Still waiting for an official Nintendo Press Release to confirm that. Nintendo’s press release confirms that TMNT is 600 points. Let the flood of comments about the dam level flow!

This is a better selection than the past couple of weeks, but I still doubt I’ll purchase any of these games for the VC. I’m still waiting on Metroid and Super Metroid.

The TMNT NES game I don’t think I’ll get. Because when I played it as a kid as far as I got was that damn “dam” stage where you are swimming underwater and have to disarm bombs and not touch electric seaweed or something. (wtf were they smoking back then??) I freaking hated that stage and could never beat it!

Strange, TMNT is 500 points here in europe. Although I’m a big TMNT fan, I’m steering clear of this one. Its just a badly programmed and rushed game. I’d rather have Turtles in Time for the SNES.

If Starfox comes out in europe I’ll get it when I beat Ocarina of Time.

I wonder if the licenses necessary to make this a reality caused the price to go up.

If that’s not the case and they’re just getting greedy, then poo to them (no use saying no one should buy their game cuz we know they will).

I’ll wait for the SNES Turtles in Time.

I got the dam level down, but the one after it… The van level… Man, rock hard.
As for Star Fox 64, I think I’ll rather just fire up my N64. It was the game that introduced the rumble pak, and it just ain’t the same without it.

    DAMNED BOMB DISARMAMENT!!!

As painfully unforgiving that game is, its still loads of fun. It’s like a mix between Contra and Castlevania with the TMNT slapped over all of it. How can you go wrong with this one? So what if it’s an extra 500 points. It’s games like THESE that I’ve been waiting for! There were loads of great licsensed games back then that NEED to be released on VC and TMNT is one of them.

Next let’s see the japanese games that never got released here like Alien Soldier, Battle Soccer and that whole slew of Dragonball Z games released in japan only.

I was very much surprised to see Star Fox 64 coming to the VC, but I already have the game on the N64 especially with Hard Mode unlocked. So I wouldn’t want to rework all that progress, plus I only have 500 points anyway.

As for TMNT being 100 more than it should be, oh well; ain’t getting that one either, it was fun when I was young but I can tell this will pull my hair or the TV will have a new hole and a Wii-mote sticking out of it.

I sold my N64 about a year ago, so I’m very happy to see Star Fox on the VC. I downloaded it and played through it and fell in love with it again. I forgot just how action-packed that game was! However, it’s a little difficult to play with a Classic controller. I had to switch to the Gamecube one.

Now if they’ll only release Super Mario RPG and Pokemon Snap, I’ll be more than set

I thought the dam level was fairly easy.

Echo’ing the previous poster…that damn VAN level afterwards was teh suck.
