Earthbound Wii bound?

Infendo reader, Platinum has tipped us with a juicy little rumor that holds hope of Earthbound heading to the VC soon. Looking under “Wii” titles on the ESRB site gives you a list of rated and pending titles that includes both the disk format and VC/Wiiware. Search closely and you can spot the one and only Earthbound accompanied with an “E” rating. Could this be what Mother fans have been waiting for? Looks like it to me, though you have to take into consideration the fact that other titles listed have been “pending” for months on end. Maybe an E3 launch? Who knows!
Looks like Nintendo is listening to what VC players are requesting. Now how about some Super Mario RPG? Eh?
Any big Earthbound freaks out there?

Hopefully if it makes it out it’ll do really well so maybe noa can finally be convinced that people really do like the game.

Super Mario RPG has been on there since last year, i think it was registered in november. This ESRB listing just mean they’ve finally got the content submitted to them, but I don’t think Earthbound will be releasing anytime soon. Afteall, we all aren’t singing the praises of mallow and Geno on opur Wii’s right now.

After Thousands and Thousands of Requests it finally pulls through!? Now here’s looking at a Mother 3 2008 release.

I’m the biggest Earthbound fan (in my own little world). Its a glorious day for all us Mother fans. If it shows to be a hot seller maybe we will get mother 3 localized. WHOOHOOOO!

I tried to play Earthbound on a *cough* emulator, but I can never get into playing games for too long on my computer like that, so I didn’t get too far. It was … OK. I feel like I just don’t “get” it. I think, sort of like Final Fantasy VII, it’s something you had to catch the first time around. It’s not so impressive to go back to this much later.
That being said, I might pick it up on VC and give it another shot, but I’d be more likely to play it on the go if they would ever put out a Mother 1-2-3 DS pack. Grinding on the train is a good way to pass the commute.

¡I want Elevator Action (not released in Europe yet) NOW!

Actually, while the prospect is pleasing, in some ways it can be considered disheartening news.
Hear me out.
Nintendo’s been holding the virtual console re-release of many of their most prestigious iterations of their franchises to coincide with the release of a new Wii iteration. Sadly the release of Earthbound on Virtual Console may indicate that Nintendo doesn’t have any interest in creating a new Earthbound title any time soon.
Or am I reading too much into this?

Actually this release makes sense, And I can see this title being released on May 12th, the day after mothers day. This is actually quite pleasing.

it makes no matter to me now. I got tired of waiting and threw down the $300 necessary to have the complete version on SNES off ebay.

Hey, I don’t want to put a damper on the party, but the ESRB rated Zombies ate my Neighbors in March of last year…then it went away. After that little stunt (I’m a HUGE ZAMN fan), I won’t get my hopes up only to get dumped by the most popular guy in school…er I mean, Nintendo.
I like chicks! and beers! Wooo manly!

I didn’t buy my very own Nintendo console until the days of the N64, but I have many happy memories of playing NES, Super NES, etc. games at friends’ houses. I missed out on Earthbound, though… I like the Virtual Console because it’s giving me a chance to play the games I loved and/or missed out on.

I could have sworn last November Gamespot or some other site had a story about Super Mario RPG being listed, but I just searched for it and couldn’t find it :(.

Holy crap. The ESRB is a good way of finding secrets about unreleased games’ existance, and this is the best thing I’ve seen from them for a while.
The main reason they release titles no matter what: they don’t care about trade secrets or insider info; release it anyways.

I think it’s great that Nintendo is finally listening. Earthbound is a great rpg that was totally different from any other game. It’s great that a large audience will be able to experience earthbound without having to buy it off of ebay for a ton of money (i lucked out and bought it at a flea market for $5). Maybe if it sells enough Nintendo will release Mother 3. You never know..look what happened with Nights.

I would kill to have Chrono Trigger on the VC
