It’s been over a months since a new N64 game has been released for the Virtual Console and this week we get one.

Pokemon Puzzle League – N64 – 2000 – 1000 Wii Points

Get ready for a new kind of Pokémon battle where the power and speed of your brain are just as important as the strength of your Pokémon. Join Ash, Brock, Misty and many more characters from the Pokémon animated series as they gather in Puzzle Village to compete for the title of Pokémon Puzzle Master. Renegade – NES – 1988 – 500 Wii Points

Renegade follows the story of a vigilante who fights his way through countless gangs in order to bring peace back to his city. Battle your way through subways, parks, alleyways and parking lots. [Originally published by Taito]

Because it’s always encouraging to see another N64 title for the VC, our pick this week is Pokemon Puzzle League. What’s your pick?

I’ve got Planet Puzzle League for DS, that’s good enough for me. I’ll probably avoid this week’s VC games altogether.

Though if they ever put Tetris Attacks out, I really liked that version of the game with all the Mario gang in there… I might be tempted – it would be a bit cheaper too as it was an SNES game.

No way! This is the best Virtual Console update ever!! I rented Pokemon Puzzle League once as a kid, was never able to find it again, and I never expected that they would put it on the VC. I was the bomb at that game, and my N64 controllers are all busted, so now I can enjoy it with my friends. Oh, god, I can’t wait to play this game again!

Interesting that they released Renegade. That completes the unofficial trifecta (River City Ransom, Double Dragon, Renegade). I never knew that Double Dragon is actually the unoficial sequel to Rendegade and River City Ransom is also a descendant.

I’ve always been slightly confused about Renegade. Is it the same as “Target: Renegade”? Target: Renegade was a really really good NES game.

…by the way, the opening theme music (for T:R) is probably the coolest NES music around, save for SMB & Zelda.

Pokemon Puzzle League is totally worth $10, I played that game so much. Making your own puzzle was great and the 1-P mode is crazy.

I was huge into Pokémon back in the day. I can’t remember if I ever played Puzzle League… it seems familiar like I might have rented it or played with a friend once. I haven’t decided yet if I’ll download it.

Never got a huge amount of N64 games, I mostly got the staples of Nintendo. Also, I see a typo! “It’s been over a months…”

Target: Renegade is the sequel to Renegade, though I think it’s also unofficial. There is also a Renegade 3 but it wasn’t released on the NES.
