Not quite the mind blowing Christmas Eve release that a lot of people were hoping for, there are a couple gems now available on the Wii Shop Channel:
Blades Of Steel – NES – 500 Wii Points
With stick in hand and confidence brimming, you are looking to bring home the cup, win the MVP award, get on the covers of major sports magazines and date a beautiful model (not necessarily in that order). So strap on blades of steel and prepare to either make a name for yourself or be put on ice.
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble – SNES – 800 Wii Points
The Kremlings have a mysterious new leader named KAOS and are up to their usual mischief, even capturing Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. Now it’s up to Dixie Kong and the newest Kong, a giant infant named Kiddy, to rescue the two missing apes. Anyone else have a sudden urge for some bananas?
Rolling Thunder 2 – Genesis – 800 Wii Points
In this follow-up to the original classic, you are once again a member of Interpol’s Rolling Thunder task force, and it’s up to you to stop the return of the evil Geldra organization. Use your bullets wisely and make Rolling Thunder proud.

Horrible week, and this is comparing from last years Christmas releases for the VC.
i played alot of blades of steel as a kid, so of course i like it alot.
Damn, Donkey Kong 3? That game was the bomb! Out of all the Donkey Kongs, the third one was my favorite. It’s the only game I remember that told you that you were over 100% done. There was so many cool things, the boats, the bosses, the animals. This Donkey Kong wasn’t as hard as number 2, but that’s a good thing. 2 was nearly impossible!
Yeah.. I loved DKC 3, spent many a fun hour on that game, can still remember the music that played in a cave on it. I even made up lyrics to it about grizzly bears… lol
I disagree, I let out an audible “Yeah!!” when I read the headline. Blades of Steel? Score. DKC 3 slam freaking dunk.
I know I’ll be spending some Wii points today (or maybe waiting for tomorrow to see if I got any Wii points in my stocking
).

Yeah, DKC3 is an amazing game… and I consider it a decent virtual console release day if there’s at very least one great game released, considering how many junk games they have to get out there.
Wow, what a blast from the past. Blades of Steel was the very first NES game I played (I bought my first NES system from an add in the paper, and the only game that came with it was Blades of Steel). I can still here that computerized voice saying “Blades of Steel”. I don’t think I’ll get it, because it wasn’t all that great of a game, but I am tempted just because of sentimental value.
DK3 would be more of a tempting download for play value, but there are quite a few better games still out there that I would get first, though.
Hey, mayber the big N, will surprise everyone with an extra Christmas day VC classic. Maybe we will wake up tomorrow to find Chrono Trigger sitting under our Virtual tree.
Wow… although some people will be disappointed, I have to agree with dlindema. Three good games in a single week isn’t that bad – even if they don’t include a “blockbuster” hit.
Hopefully high expectations for Christmas won’t prevent people from enjoying what is offered!
Well it doesn’t help I care not for those three at all.
Looks like the game selections this week are all winners. I love Blade of Steel and DKC 3. I’ve never played Rolling Thunder 2, but I’ve heard very good things about it. I might download it so I can review it later.
Blades of Steel is the best sports game ever.
GET THE PASS!
Blades Of Steel is a great game fom the past!
Also, DKC 3 is very good. Althought by the time it came out the Dkc series was getting a little over killed. I love the second one and the first is of course always great, but DKC 3 is still very good.
Nice releases this week, but I have much to many new games to worry about buying to care that much really.
