and press release after the jump…

 ————————————

SAN MATEO, Calif. — October 17, 2007 — It’s finally time to experience the magic of TMkami™ as it was always meant to be played. Capcom’s award winning game — hailed as “Game of the Year”for 2006 by multiple magazines and websites including Associated Press, PSM, Village Voice, IGN.com, Game Revolution and more — is set for release on the Wii™ home video game system in Spring 2008. Featuring a re-imagined control scheme built around the intuitive Wii Remote™, TMkami offers players an unparalleled level of control and an opportunity to rediscover a critically-acclaimed and beautifully crafted adventure.

TMkami tells the story of a mythical sun god who sets out to restore a dismal world, decimating the forces of evil who stand in the way by commanding the elements and mythical abilities the deity possesses. Mixing Japanese folklore and a stunning traditional Japanese art style, players must utilize an inventive control scheme to overcome the challenges and evil that await. By enhancing the unique gameplay, visual style and story line of TMkami with the control of the Wii Remote, it is sure to be the ultimate version of the game.

Originally designed for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and released in 2006, TMkami now comes alive in an entirely new way on the Wii with its visually stunning art style and beautiful scenic 3D levels that have the appearance and texture of paper scrolls brushed with watercolor-like calligraphy art. Throughout the vibrant and distinctive surroundings, players must use the Wii remote to interact with a dynamic world and cast of characters. The blend of stylized graphics, movements and unique gameplay will result in a rich and dynamic experience never seen before.

TMkami includes the following features:
• Innovative gameplay and control scheme optimized for the Wii - Defeating monsters requires both motion-controlled physical attacks, but also use of the Wii Remote as Amaterasu’s ‘Celestial Brush’ to paint the desired powers for decimating enemies and solving puzzles.
• Create and destroy at will - Play as a god to re-establish order and beauty to a world laid barren by evil.
• Intense action-packed battles – Rooted in Japanese folklore, fight against a diverse line-up of demons and monsters.
• Utilize various gameplay styles – In addition to the Celestial Brush, Amaterasu can wield three types of offensive weaponry, each with their own unique abilities and effects. Depending on how a weapon is equipped, it can be used as the main or sub weapon:
- Reflectors – These well-balanced weapons are suited for close range combat
- Rosaries– Sacred magatama beads are great for quick long range attacks
- Glaives – These can be charged up to unleash powerful close range attacks
• Intriguing main character – Assume the role of the sun god, Amaterasu, who descends upon the earth in the form of a wolf. The Japanese translation of the word wolf is “TMkami”.
• Original visuals and revolutionary design– Vibrant and inspiring graphics, reminiscent of traditional Japanese art created on paper scrolls, produce a large variety of stages with a watercolor-esque appearance.
• Interact with a unique and dynamic cast of characters.

    Woohoo first!

Also, I take this opportunity to claim credit for submitting this story to tips@infendo. :)

Back on topic, I’m glad to see Okami coming to Wii; who else is buying this?

  7. waltermh says...

just watched the video which still shows it as okami, but with some line above the O which may not have translated properly to the text file.

Ready at Dawn’s developing it, which may or may not be the best thing. They have a terrific track record so far though…on PSP.

  9. AC says...

i think i’ll pass. there’s too many new games coming that are going to be better than this port that will warrant my money first. i’m more excited about BWii coming out very soon to care about this news too much.

  10. Wii Wii says...

    AC - I agree 100%

So many NEW games, built specifically for the Wii. Not to mention all new DS games AND 360 games to enjoy. I don’t have time for an OLD PS2 game, ported over with tacked on motion controls.

It might have BEEN an amazing game, I wont argue that, however there are so many NEW games for some many NEW systems that a rehashed, remade, Wii mote tacked, on PS2 game ,is of absolutely no interest to me.

Capcom was lazy, plain and simple. If this was a ALL NEW sequel, built form the ground up, I would be interested. But it is not a sequel, not built from the ground up and certainly not new.

NiGHTS is a perfect example of an exciting NEW Wii game, built from the ground up. I am much more interested in this new NiGHTS game than this lazy assed ,ported, PS2 ,rehash, with tacked on motion controls game, no matter how great the few people that actually bought it, say it WAS. It was a great game, or so I hear.

So how about Capcom makes an ALL new current gen SEQUEL?!

Okami coming to the Wii will be great. A lot of people passed up on this last generation. If it does well, I wouldn’t be surprised if they make a sequel for the Wii.

“Capcom was lazy, plain and simple. If this was a ALL NEW sequel, built form the ground up, I would be interested. But it is not a sequel, not built from the ground up and certainly not new.”

Capcom’s not being lazy. We’re LUCKY they’re giving Okami a second chance. Instead of belittling Capcom, you should be THANKING them. They’re pretty much saying to us Wii owners, “We have a game that’s perfect for you, but no one liked it before. If you guys like it, expect more”.

Given Okami’s lackluster sales (about 225,000 world wide), you can’t fault Capcom for being hesitant to fund a new one…especially one that a lot of Wii owners didn’t get a place to play the original.

If Okami Wii hits even the 500,000 sales mark, I’ll bet hard cash that within 6 months of that, Capcom will announce Okami II for the Wii.

  13. Wii Wii says...

    “We’re LUCKY they’re giving Okami a second chance. ”
    Absolutely Ridiculous statement.
We should be LUCKY that a PSP developer, not even the ORIGINAL team, is PORTING over a rehashed, remake of a last gen game that did not sell well on the best selling console world wide, only now with “extra waggle” tacked on ? No. You go ahead and be ” Thankful” .

“If Okami Wii hits even the 500,000 sales mark, I’ll bet hard cash that within 6 months of that, Capcom will announce Okami II for the Wii.”
Now your Talking! I hope to see an original Okami game, THAT would be very nice. One to actually exploit the graphical and technical limits of the Wii. Lets hope so! Until then, I am not impressed nor interested in this rehash.

  14. samfish says...

Yes, we ARE lucky. The only ridiculous statement is the crap you keep spewing about how it’s lazy of Capcom to bring Okami to the Wii with “tacked on waggle”. Okami is one of the few games that can for once benefit from “extra waggle tacked on”.
And yeah - you should feel “lucky” they’re bringing another good game to the Wii, given the metric shit-ton of absolute garbage that is the Wii library.
If you’ve played Okami, you’d know WHY it’s a good thing to be giving this game a second chance. WHO CARES if it’s a PSP developer, man? Clover’s dead and gone. At least RAD has a good track record and have shown an apparent deep respect for the game. That’s about 7000% more respect than the average Wii port receives…and there are a LOT of them.

Yeah, I’d rather have a sequel from the ground up, too. There are several things I fear won’t translate well to the Wii…most notably the camera.
But considering Okami’s crappy sales, it makes SENSE to bring the original over before the sequel. If only because you’d have people bitching that they don’t understand it and asking for a port, anyway.

You want a good, quality and original games series on the Wii? Buy the Okami “rehash”. Because God knows NO ONE else is dangling this kind of carrot to the ‘hardcore’ Wii owners.

  15. samfish says...

Hmm…that was a bit of a dickish response on my part. Apologies for the somewhat harsh tone.

  16. Wii Wii says...

    Ha!
    I like your response!
you have passion for the Wii.

I still think its a lazy last gen rehash, and really, no matter how much you adore the game, it is just that.

Lets see a sequel, not arehash! maybe it will come.
