Update: Wii Sports Resort/MotionPlus bundle is $49.99

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008 at 10:46pm by Jack

Nintendo confirmed the price to Gizmodo earlier today. No word yet on separate accessory pricing, but the “spring” release date remains for the sequel to Wii Sports. This basically makes Wii Sports Resort the next Wii Play, in that people will buy it in record numbers just to get the accessory it’s packaged with. Oh, and it might actually be a pretty good game, too.

No no no! This is too much. Remember when we were asked if we would pay full price for Wii Sports? I wouldn’t pay $49.99 for Wii Sports. I paid for Wii Play to get a game and a Wiimote. That felt like a decent deal. This feels a little like cheating. I think $34.99 would’ve been about right. We’re getting a game that probably won’t beat Wii Sports in fun even if it does have more accurate controls.

I won’t rush to the store for this offer. This might have a negative result for Nintendo. It’s going to push me to wait for Motion Plus by itself, and that might push me to wait until it is implemented into Wiimote 2. That means Nintendo ends up waiting a long time to get my money.

I’ll even be (rude?) enough to say that $29.99 would’ve got me to the store. Is that too harsh?

They better get more than 5 games in the package . . . 50 bones is a lot for a few mini games. The accessory is yet to be proven, so it sounds risky at that price. . .

Wii Sports 2 would have sold in droves regardless of if it had MotionPlus. For many of Nintendo’s new fans that’s the only game they had for the better part of 2 years, so thinking this wont sell at any price is ridiculous. Look what was said about Wii Fit.

I wonder how much the improved tech costs to manufacture.

Kannon is right, it’s going to sell; even by “hardcore” players just for the MotionPlus. I know I will, eventually…

the tech itself probably costs $5.

but reggie made it sound pretty clear that wii resort would have more then just 5 games. he showed 3, but then he said they thought of many more games when they thought of summer fun.

i expect them to make it worth $50 to most consumers.

WTEFFE PEOPLE YOU ARE BASICALLY PAYING 20 FOR THE GAME AND 30 FOR MOTION+

i reckon there will be about 6-8 games by the end, and if you;ve read IGN’s impressions, it sounds like the wii remote has come of age. can’t wait for this one.

what about a europe price? i live in the UK, $50 is like £25 and is it IS £25 i’ll but it but if we get shafted and it comes out at £40+ i am going me be grumpy… BUT i will still get it.

It’d be nice if they included all of the original Wii sports games and modes in this one. That way people only have to use one disc while playing, they could even include the option of laying the old Wii sports in unny updated environments. I mean everyone got the original for free, but why not include everything on one disc? It won’t hurt the sales of anything. Wii Sports comes with every Wii, you can’t buy it separately, at least give us lazy people a nice and convenient option if you’re going to sell us something.

  11. Fool Throttle says...

wii play sold, despite it’s crappy games, because it included a standard wiimote that works with every game.

This accessory looks totally unnecessary for almost every game. It won’t be selling because of that.

The games looked kind of meh, too. Frisbee to a dog? Did you see how much trouble Reggie was having controlling that jet ski?

It will sell because people will make the connection between wii sports, and (effectively) wii sports 2.

Wii Play was worth the other $10 that the remote didn’t cost.

Wii Sports Resort??? I think I’ll pass, unless the games prove to be just that awesome, and at least until other games start coming out that make it indispensable. Even then, there’s the option of buying it on its own.

In order for it to be fun to play the sword-fighting game, you would need two. I don’t think I’ll spend much time doing that online (the lag will kill it–I doubt it’ll even be an option).

Burndive, good point. More motion numbers to crunch. There could be a sacrifice in online animation. Or predictive animation like Mario Kart DS/Wii (I think).
But we’ll need a 2nd Wiimote . . . I mean MotionPlus adapter. Perhaps another game is planned that’ll come w/ it. WiiPlay Plus perhaps?
