The top 5 Japanese sales for 3DS during launch week

1. Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle (Nintendo)
2. Samurai Warriors Chronicles (Koei)
3. Nintendogs + Cats: Shiba & New Friends (Nintendo)
4. Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition (Capcom)
5. Ridge Racer 3D (Bandai Namco)

It’ll be interesting to see how our launch titles fare since Professor Layton isn’t even announced for North America yet. Anyone surprised by these results?

They look pretty much expected for me, those are the games I’d consider buying if I were Japanese!

I’m surprised that SW got the number 2 spot (maybe I shouldn’t be if it is that popular in Japan) although that’s actually the only launch title that interests me.

I guess I’m surprised that it beat Nintendogs, but I do know that Professor Layton is extremely popular in Japan so #1 sounds right.

Finally I am surprised that Ridge Racer is still around at all, I like racing games but that one just bores the crap out of me.

Not one bit surprised, but what I am a bit shocked is how low on the list Super Street Fighter IV 3D is.

Maybe 3rd parties will stop bitching about Nintendo now that they dominated the 3DS launch.

    Not expecting it though.

Speaking of which, this news story has an error. Professor Layton was created by and has always been published in Japan by Level 5. Level 5 is also listed as the publisher in the U.S. unless Level 5 gets cold feet again and Nintendo ends up having to do yet more dirty work for 3rd parties.

I’m a little surprised. I thought Steel Diver and Pilot Wings would be in there. Guess I don’t know how much the Japanese enjoy Samurai Warriors and Ridge Racer.
