The most important question Infendo has ever asked…
Wednesday, June 17th, 2009 at 11:41am by Boss Hog
Second only to “how do you like your eggs,” the following is the most important question Infendo.com has ever asked its readers:
Q: What is your favorite all-time Nintendo franchise and why?
Answer wisely, kind reader. Your life may just depend on it.

June 17th, 2009 at 11:59 am
Mario platformers. Always good, always fun. Nuff said.
June 17th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
Metroid. Technically, the series has a better track record than Mario or Zelda. When the worst of the bunch is Metroid Prime 2, I think you’re sitting pretty. Yet when you look at Mario and Zelda, they’ve both got quite a few complete disasters under their belt (Hotel Mario and The Wand of Gameleon both come to mind).
But “Why?” you ask. I guess it’s a psychological issue. I’ve always been a bit of a loner and I love puzzle solving. And knowing that Samus is totally HOT under all that armor doesn’t hurt anything either. (Trust me, I earned my geek stripes a long time ago.) The original is still my favorite (my personal “deserted island game”), though, and I can’t wait for “Other M”. I just hope Team Ninja doesn’t just give us a Ninja Gaiden clone, but that Nintendo will definitely hold on to the reins for the new game’s development. And I mean, come on, does everyone remember the final boss fight in Metroid Prime? That battle alone could cement this series as the greatest Nintendo franchise of all time (it just barely beats out the ending of Ocarina of Time….).
June 17th, 2009 at 12:07 pm
Has to be Zelda, hands down. If Nintendo were to only make one franchise, I’d vote for Zelda being said franchise.
June 17th, 2009 at 12:09 pm
Super smash brothers its always fun its the best game and it keeps getting better. A wide variety of characters just perfect
June 17th, 2009 at 12:12 pm
Zelda, easily. Playing The Legend of Zelda is what made video games “click” for me. Zelda turned me into a gamer. I probably would have played Mario and Metroid, but Zelda is what made me CARE about gaming.
Even a bad Zelda is still a good game.
June 17th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
IMPOSSIBLE……..TO……ANSWER…….TOO…….MANY……..FANTASTIC…..GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 17th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
Starfox. Despite adventures, I love each and every one for what they are.
June 17th, 2009 at 12:30 pm
To me, it’s The Legend of Zelda. Could play those until the day I die.
June 17th, 2009 at 12:38 pm
Now, Zelda. Before OoT, it was Mario.
My brothers and I played super Mario Bros sooo much. My whole family was there when I beat the game with one man, no warping. Those are good memories. And when I first played Mario 64 at a demo kiosk in Toys R Us, it blew me away.
But then I got married and my wife and I helped each other through OoT. And Wind Waker. And Twilight Princess. She loves it as much, maybe more, than I do.
So for that reason, I go with Zelda.
June 17th, 2009 at 12:40 pm
I would only be able to answer this question truthfully if there was a gun pointed at my head… that said, once I finished digesting the question, metroid. plain and simple.
June 17th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
Hmm…I look most forward to Zelda games and revere the past ones more than any game…but my favourite still probably has to be pokémon.
June 17th, 2009 at 12:49 pm
Zelda, hands down. While I have thoroughly enjoyed the Mario and Metroid franchises. Zelda has always had the compelling sense of adventure. What’s coming up next? How do I get to the next temple? Do I have everything I need for this level? And oh those pesky puzzles!
June 17th, 2009 at 1:01 pm
I thought the most important question was, “How would you like cook your steak?”

June 17th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
That’s impossible for me to answer, you may as well as asking me which key on my piano is my favorite. But right now, I wouldn’t mind saying F-Zero.
June 17th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
Zelda…
June 17th, 2009 at 1:29 pm
Metroid
June 17th, 2009 at 1:37 pm
Zelda, even though I’ve never finished one, or enjoy them more than a lot of other games. I just love seeing what he’s doing next and where Nintendo will take him next. You could say me and the Zelda games have a long-distance relationship
June 17th, 2009 at 1:39 pm
Fire Emblem. Before FE:PoR, Zelda.
June 17th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
Quite easy to answer, actually:
Pokémon series, although followed closely by Animal Crossing with Pikmin a distant third…
Why?
Pokémon and Animal Crossing for the same reason: Nintendo managed to create in those games a very simple virtual world that you feel like you live in it despite having a very minimalist representation. You can escape for a few minutes or hours at a time, doing whatever the world allows you to do, which is, amazingly, a lot. There is no urgency in completing a particular objective, you can specialize in whatever tickles your fancy.
June 17th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
Mario! The best platformers!
June 17th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
Pokémon for sure. I was 5 or 6 when the first Pokémon game came out, so I was the original target audience you could say. Although I’ve outgrown the television show and little novelty Pokédexes, I have played and beaten every Pokémon handheld game to date. The console games… I get a little confused at times. It’s kind of hard being in high school and in love with Pokémon, but hey, it’s true. (And people, please quit calling it Pokey-mon.
)
June 17th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
OH GOD, INFENDO.
YOU ARE MONSTERS.
You know what? This is incredibly hard to say. I’ve been playing Mario since I was a wee tyke, I’ve been obsessed with Smash Bros since it first came out, I’ve played, beaten, and loved every WarioWare game ever made and I’ve been an F-Zero nut since I first played GX (yeah, I was late to the party).
But if I really had to choose… I’d have to say the Ouendan series.
I’ve never played a game that has been so… game-y. This game could not translate to any other medium or be on any other platform besides DS. The game has a story, and a great one at that but it is not heavy-handed and it doesn’t make you watch any cutscenes, it unfolds AS YOU PLAY. Not to mention the gameplay is so addicting I think I played every song an unmentionable amount of times. I even got a high-score of 8 million on the last song in Ouendan 2 without timer circles. Not many games force me to go that far.
The best part, however, is the gameplay. In Ouendan you are not trying to mimic an instrument like Guitar Hero or Rock Band, you are simply tapping along to the beat and it works perfectly. I have never played something more addicting.
I also just adore the premise of it. It is one of those rare games that is not based on destruction. Even in Mario and Sonic games you are “destroying” to get your way. Killing Goombas, crushing badniks, beating bosses. Hell, in Tetris you are destroying rows of blocks. In Ouendan you are dancing. Not like in DDR, though, where you dance for the sake of dance, in Ouendan you are dancing to encourage and help people (and all of humanity) out. The premise is so positive that it just helps the whole “feel good” atmosphere reach record levels, and yet the game still has it’s poignant moments. There is always one “touching” song and a song of desperation and victory.
All in all, I have never played a game like the Ouendan series before and I still play it to this day.
June 17th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
Zelda. Because it’s awesome.
June 17th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
ummm….
Kirby or Zelda, I can’t decide….
June 17th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
Definitely Zelda.
June 17th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
By the way, I’m surprised only one other person has mentioned the Pokémon series, being that by sales alone, it is hands down not only the most powerful Nintendo franchise in history, but the best-selling video game franchise in history for any company… And this is without even mentioning its cultural impact.
Mario? Who’s that??
June 17th, 2009 at 3:13 pm
Does Pilotwings count?
I say Pilotwings as someone who has flight experience. It is great fun with the different challenges and just being able to fly around as the birdman. That said I am a fan also of animalcrossing and am also looking forward to the new Mario game on Wii
June 17th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
I love all of them, it’s such a hard decision. Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, Fire Emblem and Golden Sun have to be on the top of the list, though.
There’s just so much magic in each of the games- it’s something that’s very rare in today’s games.
June 17th, 2009 at 3:31 pm
Metroid because by the end of the game you feel like a one (wo)man army and it has a superb soundtrack … although that can be said about almost any Nintendo franchise.
June 17th, 2009 at 3:37 pm
Kirby… He may be pink, but he kicks a lot of ass. I always was able to associate with his small stature and ferocious appetite for the destruction of the cute and yet incredibly tasty army of King Dedede. I have yet to play a truly bad Kirby game at that, yes some are a little different (Canvas Curse), but they have all been good in their own right. Also, Kirby has an incredibly soundtrack!
June 17th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
Call me Mr. Original, but I’ll go with Mario.
If you think about it, Nintendo really does have quite a great selection of well-known characters (kind of like the Disney of video games). I think this is one of the things that separates Nintendo from the other Consoles – name brand characters. The other systems have some great games, but they lack the name recognition that is so predominant with Nintendo.
I know it’s been battered around a few times as wishful thinking, but I honestly believe that Nintendo could open up an amusement Park, and it would be a hit because of the characters. I know my son would lose more than a few nights of sleep if we had a trip planned to Mario World.
June 17th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
“HEY! LISTEN!”
The Legend of Zelda.
Captures adventure more accurately than any other game.
In my opinion (and I’m sure in most of yours as well)
there are a few flaws in the franchise,
yes, but my god man—-> Majora’s Mask. (Genius).
I am Linked to this franchise.
June 17th, 2009 at 3:53 pm
Zelda is the very definition of a videogame to me. Escapist fantasy adventure where progress is measured in puzzles solved and treasures earned. Leading to a climactic finale.
I am just no damn good at 2D side-scrolling platformers.
June 17th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
Chibi-Robo?
June 17th, 2009 at 4:55 pm
Hmm…I would say PokeMon, followed by Metroid.
PokeMon because it was my first franchise I ever jumped into, and it stayed the same classic formula that we know and love. In my opinion, it’s a good RPG for beginning gamers, and a difficult challenge for experts who are after all 493 PokeMon.
Metroid because it blends Mario and Zelda into one. The basic platforming, get-to-the-goal Mario formula, and the backtrack-to-get-items-and-side-quests- Zelda formula. And I don’t need to say that Samus Aran is a nice bonus too.
June 17th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
Zelda.
Mario is what reaches the masses and brings them in to gaming, etc. It is Zelda however that made me start to feel like I had to “think” like a gamer in order to beat it.
June 17th, 2009 at 5:26 pm
Zelda, closely followed by Fire Emblem.
June 17th, 2009 at 6:08 pm
I’ve put the most time into Smash Bros., and it’s great because it’s a combination of all Nintendo’s franchises. However, I think I’m gonna have to go with Metroid because the ridiculously high quality of each game in the series.
Like benthedorklord, I’m also a huge Fire Emblem fan, but I’ve only played the U.S. releases and a translated rom of the first GBA game.
June 17th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
My favorite Nintendo franchise is definitely Zelda… But that’s a pretty close decision. I love all Nintendo’s creations (Well. Within reason.), I’m a major Mario head, love Metroid, I am a fan of all of it, but Zelda is the top of the list for me. Why? I’m not sure. Maybe it’s the fantasy setting, or the puzzles, or the fun characters, or the swords. But something about Zelda I just love.
June 17th, 2009 at 6:32 pm
InvisibleMan:
HEY, LOOKIE HERE!!! I’M A POKEMON FAN TOO!!! THE ONLY THING STOPPING ME IS LEARNING HOW TO ACCENT THE E IN POKEMON USING MY KEYBOARD!!!!!!
June 17th, 2009 at 6:46 pm
……………………………Zelda……………………..
June 17th, 2009 at 7:22 pm
Pokemon
June 17th, 2009 at 7:27 pm
Mario (the platformers) because it’s a challenge (some stages) and very fun. There are more great Mario games than great Zelda games. A Link to the past is my favorite followed by Link’s awakening and then the first Zelda for NES.
June 17th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
Oh, I forgot to say that I also prefer Mario because it’s the franchise that constantly comes with new ideas and development. It feels fresch almost every time a new Mario platformer comes out (except for the fact that Bowser is the villain again)!
Compared to Zelda which feels like the same old.
June 17th, 2009 at 8:05 pm
Man, when I first click on the post I thought “Oh, this is easy” but once I actually started to think about it (and that image reminded me of all the options), I’m having a really hard time deciding.
I mean, I’ve been playing Mario since I was old enough to hold a controller and have been a die-hard gamer ever since. I mean, without Mario I probably would have started gaming eventually anyway, but not nearly as early and certainly nowhere near as enthusiastically. And even given the percentage of shovel-ware Mario has had his name attached to, the “core” games are still some of the best of their kind out there…ever.
But Zelda! I admit, I played the original Zelda, but I don’t remember finishing it and wouldn’t until many years later when I was just hitting my teenage years. I wasn’t even really aware of the other Zelda games from the NES, GB, and GBC days either so I wouldn’t consider myself the most die-hard fan or anything… But when Ocarina of Time came out and I got it for my N64 – man, I was blown away. Ocarina of Time (and Mario 64) basically paved the way for 3D platformers of the future – it did so many things right and really got my into not-only the Zelda games themselves but the Zelda story/lore as well. Majora’s Mask only solidified that sentiment and subsequent “core” games just keep getting better and better. Zelda has got to be one of Nintendo’s finest examples of brilliant character design, timeless music, enchanting stories, and excellent game progression. So you’d think Zelda would be my favorite…
…but then there’s Pokemon! I just turned 22 a few months ago and while I’ve left behind the clearly-aimed-at-children anime and toys, I can’t seem to shake my undying passing for the (core) Pokemon games. My history with Pokemon is a long and crazy one, but to sum it up – Pokemon basically shaped the rest of my life after discovering it. It was a great game to play, it inspired me to draw and become an artist, it broke the ice in elementary school with kids (and even some bullies) that I would have never socialized with otherwise, and it forged so many close friendships that I don’t know what I would have done without it. Hell, I was so fascinated with the games and their mechanics that I got into programming in high school and continued on to Computer Science and eventually Video Game Design in post-secondary. Even now I anxiously await the release of the next games in the series (Heart Gold / Soul Silver) and have a nerdgasm at the very sight of someone playing one of the games in public (subway, bus, etc.).
I also have to give a very, very honorable mention to the MOTHER series – I didn’t really “catch on” to it’s awesomeness until a few years ago and it hurts me that Nintendo has deprived North American gamers of such a wonderful series. It’s a shame that one has to illegally download the games and apply a fan-made translation (a friggin awesome one, btw for MOTHER3) just to experience them.
But in the end, I love so many of ‘em it’s hard to choose – but I’d have to say Pokemon has had the most impact on my life and thus, it’s my favorite. Sure it’s had its ups and downs, but I’ve loved every minute of it and I look forward to many years of “catching ‘em all” to come.

This is easy mario platformers just like the first guy to post.
Star dfox was good but you will never see a good sequel though.
F-zero is good but it can not sell because it is made for the skilled gamers who did not pratice the others f zero games.
Yep a mario platformer in 2d wins every thing.
Turns on mario 2 and 3 on the VC yep mario platformers still win.
Why you ask well I can still play them still to day and they are fun. Any addition to that is a good thing.
June 17th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
Zelda since I love the exploration and discovery aspect of the series.
Oh, and it’s nice to see that Ouendan and F-Zero get some love here.
June 17th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
mario hands down. he is the face of not only nintendo but the face of videogames! everyone knows mario, hardcore gamer or not. and mario isnt just a pretty face he backs it up with outstanding games that never disappoint. from his debut in donkeykong to his first adventure in space mario has proved time and time again even that he is here to stay. even when the plumber takes a break from jumping of goombas and tossing bowser into lava he delivers with fun games like mario kart, tennis, golf strikers and even mario party. but above all mario is the king of platformers!
June 17th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
I love Mario like no tomorrow and Mario 64 was the game that really got me hooked into gaming, but it’s got to be Zelda.
Ocarina of Time still sits as a shining beacon of what a game should be to me and I doubt it will ever be surpassed. I loved every second of Majora’s Mask (a severly underrated game IMO) and like many was crestfallen when I saw the revised graphics for Wind Waker.
Now though, I couldn’t imagine it being in any other style. That game still holds the record for most consecutive hours played for me (13 straight) and has to be the best game on the Cube.
As for Twilight Princess, I giggled like a fucking schoolgirl when I selected the disc channel on my Wii the first time I got that. No joke, I was literally grinning from ear to ear just from those few notes before the game was even loaded.
No other franchise can excite, enthrall, entertain, frustrate, amaze or invoke emotion in me like Zelda can.
Bring on the new Wii title!
In reference to the other titles, I’m a massive F-Zero fan too and I hope Nintendo do a Wii version – Motion plus steering for an F-Zero game would be immense.
I love the original Pokemon games and the features in Gold/Silver onwards are awesome, but after the original 151 it got far too complicated for me and nothing has equalled the experience of finishing Pokemon Red for the first time. I’ve also finished Gold and Ruby, and whilst the mechanics remain true to brilliant form, the originals just can’t be beat.
Metroid Prime: The Star Wars triology of videogames. Just immense.
June 17th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
My favorite is the zelda franchise.
June 18th, 2009 at 1:02 am
Metroid
June 18th, 2009 at 1:25 am
If we are going by franchise, then it is Zelda without a doubt. I love Mario, it is a very close second, but weilding a sword and saving Hyrule is just like the perfect scenario for me.
But for what’s it for, and you guys bash me for it on the show all the time, the single game I love the most from Nintendo is still Star Fox 64, even over OOT. I never played a game over and over so much.
June 18th, 2009 at 1:32 am
I love the Pokemon series because it has all the fun and strategy of a great RPG and it also has the added bonus of trying to collect all of the Pokemon. I have loved this series ever since I first tried Pokemon Blue years ago, and I have loved every single one since.
June 18th, 2009 at 1:42 am
Zelda. Its’ quality is usually and undisputably higher than high. The games feature intricate puzzles, worlds that are easy to become attached to and many memorable characters. You will never forget Marin calling you a thief or Guru-Guru getting pissed off about rain. The series explores many issues and is usually relatable to life in some way or just an extremely solid game with its’ most major faults being that it was released after 2006 or that it’s Zelda. That ain’t bad. I can go back and play any Zelda from the original to Twilight Princess and easily have a great time playing it. Usually a single player game has to be like Mario to be able to claim that type of enjoyment. This ain’t the Mushroom Kingdom, This-Is-Hyrule!
June 18th, 2009 at 1:48 am
Kirby without a doubt. It’s my all time favorite Nintendo character and the soundrack of his games always make me smile.
June 18th, 2009 at 2:11 am
They’re all interconnected to Nintendo’s lifeline. It is a fact: they all are the greatist since they kept Nintendo alive…for now.
June 18th, 2009 at 4:21 am
Um i like alot of em so hard to choose. i’d have to say mario and zelda for sure though i love those games.
XD
June 18th, 2009 at 7:46 am
Zelda.
June 18th, 2009 at 8:17 am
Smash, because its cheating. You see, I get the best bits from all of my favorites wrapped into one. He he.
Legend of Zelda, Metroid, F-Zero, and Mario games where you get to play as Luigi.
June 18th, 2009 at 8:57 am
I have to say probably pokemon because most of those games appealed to me (as in a higher percentage than say mario or zelda)
But if we’re sticking to handhelds I’d probably go with Zelda because I loved all of the handhelds of them.
June 18th, 2009 at 9:00 am
Well my good friend I would have to say the metroid series. To tell you the truth I never played the first one when I younger. By saying that I was never shocked to find out that samus was a woman. I never even played super metroid. I know that I should be hung. the first game I played was on the game boy advance. It was metroid fusion, after I played it I was hooked. Just to play somebody who was such a bad ass who had so much add-ons and mods was just completely awesome. The worlds were different and the monsters were big and small plus mean mother*******. They just added to that by bringing her into the first person. Can’t wait for “the other M”
June 18th, 2009 at 10:07 am
Mario platformers, followed by zelda and mario kart.
June 18th, 2009 at 11:10 am
Mario Kart!
…
No, no, Fire Emblem!
umm…
No, Mario Kart!
ERR… Ungh…
Fire Emblem!
*Head Explodes*
June 18th, 2009 at 11:18 am
Truly, I have to admit that only recently have I even started to become a big Nintendo fan, and this you can thank my best friend for; she’s entirely addicted to anything Nintendo, forcing me to watch her playing endless hours of Zelda games. I’d have to thank her for making me adore The Legend of Zelda, so I suppose you could say it’s all her fault.
Though Smash Bros. will come in a good second, because those were so much fun to play, no matter how frustrated I got, and despite the fact that I absolutely just cannot win against her or anyone. All are really great games.
June 18th, 2009 at 11:41 am
Halo!!!
Wait………ZELDAAAAAAA!!!!! Because a Zelda game is like a good dog..it’s good! (To quote Crecente.) Really though, I grew up playing Ocarina and Majora’s Mask. That alone makes me a fan.
June 18th, 2009 at 12:10 pm
I think I’m going to have to say Zelda, followed by Mario and then Metroid. Here’s why.
Each Zelda game attempts to either do something different or better than the last. Each game contains an important new element that the game revolves around, like being able to travel between times or worlds, turning into a wolf, reliving the same three days, and controlling the wind. But if you look at Mario and Metroid, their formulas don’t change so drastically. Sure, Mario gets new suits (and water packs and gravity) and Samus gets a couple of interesting new powers here and there, but its’ largely the same (especially in the very formulaic case of each Metroid game – I find myself finding the same power ups in the same method and sometimes in the same order).
That’s not to say that Metroid and Mario are sub-par by any means, but I think the drastic changes that each Zelda game makes are always interesting and totally game-changing.
June 18th, 2009 at 12:17 pm
@ Lite (on a crappy PC!!):
Don’t you worry, Lite, I’m here to help you: just type Alt + 130 to get the “é”… Now you will be a true Pokéfan!
Any questions?
June 18th, 2009 at 12:42 pm
Sunny-side up.
June 18th, 2009 at 1:01 pm
#1: Zelda
#2: Mega Man X
#3: Metroid, even though I’ve not beaten one
#4: Banjo Kazooie
It’s hard to just pick one
June 18th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
Pokemon, hands down. Now, I’m a high school graduate, and it might be weird to say that, but Pokemon was my first ever Nintendo game that I owned. I got Pokemon Blue when I was nine and I still play it. I have a game from every generation. I’m still eagerly saving money for Heart Gold and Soul Silver. Pokemon was a simple game with a simple objective, and while I still love me some hardcore games (Zelda, etc), Pokemon will always be nearest and dearest to my heart.
June 18th, 2009 at 4:24 pm
Zelda silly. What kind of question is that? They pioneered the free-roam adventure genre. With a little nod to Adventure (Atari 2600).
June 18th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
I would say the platformer Megaman games. Why? Because… well it’s hard, there are so many good things about it. It has awsome sound tracks, a hell long story line coming from the first megaman game for the NES to the newest ZXA for DS. And who doesn’t like a good run and gun game? I’ve been playing megaman all my life since about 6 yrs ago(I’m only 12).
June 18th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
Good. Pokéfans are coming out of the woodwork now!
June 18th, 2009 at 8:15 pm
If you’re on a Mac, you can just type option-e (´), then e again to make é.
Gah, it’s ridiculous. I used an old Pikachu Pokémon card as a bookmark in school one day. I wasn’t flaunting it or showing it around, I was simply using it to hold my place. So many people that day commented on how it made me a baby… just because of my Pikachu bookmark. I know I’ll never be doing that again. It’s nice to know there are other die-hard fans out there like me.
June 18th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
Lol – I’m sure there are a lot more Pokémon fans on this site than we see here – they’re just hiding! Lol.
And to those who mentioned MegaMan (and Banjo Kazooie) – those aren’t Nintendo franchises! MegaMan is Capcom’s and Banjo Kazooie is Rare’s. Trust me, if MegaMan was an option he would have been first on my list – I’m probably the biggest MegaMan fan I know and I certainly loved the original two Banjo games more than I can describe in words.
No cheating! Lol.

Legend of Zelda. I remember reading Nintendo Power about ten or so years ago and one of the Player’s Pulse letters was about a guy that had a girl in the neighborhood that always wanted to come over and play Zelda as kids. He let her and eventually a relationship formed. It was the most adorable story.
Additionally, there’s never been a Zelda game I didn’t love. (I even have a Triforce tattoo!) The series is always coming up with new additions to the beloved game and while the core of it stays the same, there are always new and interesting ways to play, interact, and be immersed in the game.
June 18th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Metroid, mainly, the Prime series…
secondly is Legend of Zelda.
June 18th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
@ InvisibleMan:
Let me try this…
Pokemon…
June 18th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
Nope, not workin’. I think I’ll stick to PokeMon.
June 18th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
hummm…. thinking better, I forgot to mention Fire Emblem.
- Metroid (Prime series)
- Fire Emblem.
- Legend of Zelda; and
- Star Fox.
It’s impossible to mention just one.
June 18th, 2009 at 11:11 pm

Easy choice. Fire Emblem.
It is the only series that I have bought and beat every game that is available. I enjoyed it so much that I bought the Shinging Force games (1 and 2) on VC so I could give them a try. I am currently also playing FF A2 on the DS as it is along the same lines of play.
Fire Emblem is my favourite because it is the best series in the gameplay I enjoy the most.
And if anyone knows of any other games with similar gameplay, please let me know. Strategy RPG I think it is called.

I certainly couldn’t decide.
My very first dealings with Nintendo was Mario of course, but I never was very good at the side-scrolling platformer. Timed jumps are tough for me.
But my first love was Pokemon. I got Yellow in a bundle pack with a special GameBoy color with a Pokemon theme for Christmas… and I’ve loved it ever since. To this day I still play Pokemon, and I was so excited when the Gold and Silver remakes were announced for the DS.
Then came Golden Sun and Super Smash Bros. And then I started playing Legend of Zelda around middle school, when mom bought me OoT from a yard sale. Needless to say, I’ve played many LoZ games afterward, and I honestly couldn’t tell you my favorite between Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.
I love them all!

Far too many to choose from. But I’d have to say Metroid for awesome first person shooter action, and great platforming and atmosphere. Also for not having a freakish amount of (sometimes enjoyable) spinoffs like Mario. Then again, I like a good amount of those spinoffs.

Metroid. Played every single entry. Combines adventuring and permanent power up elements of Zelda and Mario platforming with a badass female character and a cool sci-fi theme.

Never been disappointed by a proper Mario game. Can’t say that of the others, so Mario it is.

I don’t have a favorite. They all have a special place in my heart, no matter how corny that sounds.

#1: Star Fox. (I know, I’m crazy.)
#2: Metroid. (I Only like the non-3d games)

Pokemon. The joy of Pokemon is its simplicity and relatability. In my opinion, Pokemon captures the escapist dream all gamers have to explore new places and encounter a way of life totally different from their own. Additionally, the franchise capitalizes on change, something other Nintendo franchises rather avoid – Mario and Link may get new equipment or abilities, but they never really look different; Pokemon, on the other hand, literally change, and so by the time one has finished the game, one feels a sense of change and evolution that fits the bildungsroman style of the concept. And, I mean, have you SEEN Seviper? Adorable.

That picture clearly shows two Marios and two Links standing together. Could this be evidence of Nintendo’s secret cloning programs, or is that the missing Link my text books keep talking about?
Favorite game? Well Mario Zelda and Metroid all compliment each other so well. The sports/racing style games Nintendo put out are great (WaveRace, Fzero, Pilotwings, Wii Sports), but not as iconic as the core group of mascot driven games.
My favorite would have to be Mario 2d platformers. Ask yourself “if you could only have one Nintendo game, what would it be?”, my answer is Super Mario World or Super Mario 3. What can I say, I like 18 years olds, games that is.
