Nintendo won’t discuss next console until they sell 15 million more Wiis

Or so says Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aime, in an interview with Kotaku.

“Wii has many, many more units to sell,” Fils-Aime said, after revealing that lifetime Wii sales in the U.S. stand at 30 million. “After we’ve reached an installed base of 45 million here in the U.S., we can have a conversation about the next generation.”

When asked if Nintendo needs to release a Wii successor by next year, Fils-Aime offered a blunt, “No.” (NOTE: The question was “release” not “announce.”  I’m betting Nintendo will soft announce something at E3 next year, although the newly released 3DS will rightfully retain the spotlight.”)

Either way, it’s hard to fault Nintendo’s patience. After all, the company says the Wii still sells 23 percent faster than the PlayStation 2 did during the same period. Infendo readers need no reminder that the PS2 eventually finished as the best-selling console of all time, selling a whopping 145 million units to date. (Via 1up)

3DS vs. PSP, PS2 and GameCube

Most of the chatter we hear about the 3DS is the autostereoscopic 3D screens, but there’s also a huge advancement in it’s graphical capabilities. Although the important part of having good graphics is the talent of the artists that make them, I think this can provide a good idea of what can be achieved on the 3DS from a technical standpoint. It’s also worth noting that the Snake Eater demo is nowhere near complete and is really just an early technical demo at this point.

Milestone: Wii two-year sales beat PS2 two-year sales

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009 at 7:42am by Jack

The Wii’s history-making run continues today, as the plucky white console’s two-year sales numbers purportedly beat the PlayStation 2′s two-year numbers this past December.

“Nintendo’s life-to-date sell-through of the Wii is very close to life-to-date sell-through of the PS2 through year-end 2002, and we expect Wii sales to surpass PS2 sales in December,” wrote analyst Michael Pachter in a research note obtained by Edge.

Congrats, Wii. I see no reason why 2009 won’t bring more of the same.

Holiday game theft, watch out for store clerks

Friday, December 12th, 2008 at 12:34pm by Will Thompson

Recently I went to Walmart with some friends and family to try and tie up any lose ends for the holiday season. Of course being a gamer I give the gift of games to my younger family members. However, when I bought said games and brought them home to wrap and put away until the holidays, I noticed that one of the games was opened and that the game wasn’t there. The seal was cracked in such a way that you could easily open the game case and remove the game while keeping the plastic on it.

I thought it was suspicious at the time when the store clerk brought the games directly to the cashier in the electronics department, but then again it’s around the holidays so theft does happen a lot. Just a word of advice, if any Infendo readers are still doing holiday shopping, be sure to check the games you buy before you actually purchase them.

Review: Spider-Man: Web of Shadows [Wii][DS]

Monday, November 10th, 2008 at 4:18pm by Sean Buckley

Like Treyarch’s other webhead games, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows is entirely free-roaming. The island of Manhattan is open for your web-slinging, wall-running pleasure, and it looks fantastic. The graphics are a huge step up from Spider-Man 3 for Wii, the city looks bigger, the animation is smoother, and the character models look more realistic. It also represents a change in how developers see the Wii – In the past, the Wii versions of multi-platform releases often shared code with Playstation 2 releases rather than with other “next-gen” systems. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows is one of few titles where the Wii, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3 all share the same version of the game, minus a few graphical differences and console exclusives. Unfortunately, it also shares the same flaws.
