What Nintendo game do you regret not buying?

I don’t know if it’s my biggest regret — there are dozens of heralded Nintendo games I have yet to purchase.

But I really regret not buying the Metroid Prime Trilogy. Freakin’ thing sells for almost $140 now. Even though I owned the original three, I want the “remastered” trilogy.

What about you: What Nintendo game do you most regret passing on?

Rumor: Metroid Title Headed to 3DS

Monday, January 17th, 2011 at 1:15pm by Jack

So I hear a 3D Metroid title could very well be coming to the Nintendo 3DS. This is great news! So long as it’s nothing like Other M.

Confirmation will probably come at the big North America/UK 3DS event scheduled for this Wednesday, at which point we’ll know pricing, availability and launch titles. Should be a hoot, although shelling out $300 for a portable will not be. Let’s hope that’s not what happens.

As an aside, history shows us that 2D platformers like New Super Mario Bros. do incredibly well on a portable platform. We have no idea if a Metroid title is actually coming to the 3DS, let along what it might look like, but for me this style seems the perfect fit. And who knows? A well-executed 2D Metroid, coupled with some clever stereoscopic 3D, might be just what the franchise needs to wash away the undeniable taint of Other M.

Limited-edition Metroid shirt available today

Saturday, September 11th, 2010 at 12:40am by Derek

With the release of the controversial Other M, Nintendo has given Metroid fans a closer and more intimate look into the eyes of their alien-hunting heroine than ever before.

Well, the closest look they’ve had for another 20 minutes, anyway.

Beginning at 12:00 am CDT on Sept. 11, RIPT Apparel will offer a limited-edition t-shirt inspired by Metroid’s leading lady. Entitled “SAMUS,” the t-shirt was designed by Jonah Block and features a close image of the eyes behind the bounty hunter’s iconic visor.

The orange t-shirt will cost $10 and only be available for 24 hours. After that time, the remaining supply will explode and all RIPT employees will have to escape their lair.

What do you think of Metroid Other M?

The game released yesterday. Did you play it? If so, what do you think? Is Infendo on crack? Was Mark on to something in his mixed review? More importantly, where do you think this game will rank in the annals of Metroid history? Top of the food chain, middle manager, or bottom feeder? Speak up!

Do the last five hours of Metroid: Other M redeem the first five? No.

By popular demand, I beat Metroid Other M this weekend. Did completing the game change my “meh” opinion? No.

As rated in my original review, Metroid: Other M is an average game at best, made worse by limiting controls and a pathetic story. As a result, I believe Other M will go down as a top contender for “weakest Metroid ever.”

That said, I did learn some things from “Metroidgate.” They are as follows: (more…)
