Evolution of Nintendo

Evolution of Nintendo

With Nintendo evolving once again with the release of the Nintendo 3DS as well as the anxiously awaited Wii U, I thought it would be cool to look back at Nintendo from its beginning.  Above you will see the classic logos. Below, you will see the evolution of their consoles and handhelds.

What was your favorite Nintendo system?  What was it about the system that makes it your favorite?

Gameboy – Avenging Spirit

One of my favorite elements of the Nintendo download services is the ability to download classic games. When the eShop Gameboy version of Avenging Spirit was released a few months ago for the 3DS eShop, I may have been one of the few people jumping for joy and looking for my credit card to put down the 3 bucks to purchase the game. I remember playing the game for hours on end while taking the biweekly car ride to the grandma’s house back when handheld games took four batteries and instead of including three dimensional gameplay, included a monochrome 4-shades of color palette. Those were the days. Avenging Spirit was one the games I always had on me, and to this day the gameplay holds up. If you don’t believe me, go ahead and download the eShop version. No really, go do it.

Gameboy – Sword of Hope 2
YouTube Preview Image
Sword of Hope was known along with Final Fantasy Legend as one of the first RPGs to appear on the Game Boy. Kemco later released a sequel to the title, and although I don’t remember much of story other than the need to find some dude named Zakdos, but I do rembember the awesome soundtrack. Throughout the entire adventure the music is catchy and rhythmic, and for a 2-megabit gameboy cartridge, is very well done.
