The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition dated, arrives Sept 28

In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of everyone’s favorite green hero, Nintendo announced at E3 that they would be giving away a free downloadable Zelda title to anyone who owns a Nintendo DSi, DSi XL, or 3DS. That title is aptly named The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition, and starting September 28, you can grab a copy for yourself.

Nintendo was kind enough to show off the title to anyone who attended their non-TGS TGS event this past week, and as it turns out the game has been given a few upgrades since its original release nearly a decade ago. For starters, the entire adventure can be played in single player this time around. If playing solo, an additional Link will appear on-screen that can be controlled independently by selecting them with the L and R buttons.

Four Swords Anniversary Edition also will feature two new areas not found in the original. Each area will consist of three levels that when completed will gain access to an all new skill for Link.

I for one am extremely excited about the prospect of a multiplayer Zelda adventure that I can take with me on the go. The only missed opportunity that I think Nintendo could have capitalized on would have been the addition of online play. Oh well, the game is free after all. Be sure to check the eShop in two weeks time to receive your free goodies. The game will remain free until February 20, 2012, so be sure to snag one before then.

YouTube Preview ImageIf you haven’t heard, this year marks the 25th anniversary for everyone’s favorite green hero, and Nintendo is celebrating by holding a rather awesome contest for any of the artists out there. Do you own a DSi? Can you create art that doesn’t look like an easel exploded? Then boy do I have news for you.

Nintendo has just launched an official Zelda Flipnote site and are asking fans for their best creations celebrating their favorite scenes and characters from the franchise. Entries must be submitted by September 9, and must be at least 20 seconds in length.

What do you win for creating such awesome art? After careful review, the winning flipnotes will be selected to be commented on by The Legend of Zelda creators and published on the Nintendo website. Not too shabby!

So what are you waiting for? Start animating!

Nintendo gives quake victims the gift of games

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011 at 8:36pm by Eugene
Nintendo of Japan has been quite generous to victims of the Japanese earthquake and subsequent tsunami that occurred this March to the tune of $3.6 million. Nintendo has been mum on the subject of other such donations, detailing that they did not feel that they should show their actions off to the world, and have a policy of not involving the media. A member of the Japanese Hachimaki Blog has posted what some of those donations were.

Nintendo has donated a number of DSi units with the DS Terebi attachment included with the system. The DS Terebi is a TV tuner cabable of receiving 1seg television broadcasts, enabling the quake victims quick access to local news broadcasts.

It’s great to see big companies like Nintendo still giving the the victims in their home country. Hopefully they feel generous enough to give a little to foreign countries as well.

Review: Just your average rice-cake streaking through a haunted spa game…

The eShop added a few new titles to its line-up this week, including Gameboy Tennis and a truly strange and funny little DSi platformer from Aksys Games

Pro Jumper! Chimaki’s Hot Spring Tour! Guilty Gear Tangent!? puts you in the role of Chimaki the living rice cake. At the beginning of each level, Chimaki staggers home (presumably from his job as a minor sight-gag in the Guilty Gear games) suffering from pains that can only be cured by a quick trip to a spa. Unfortunately, every place he chooses is full of odd little creatures and demons who object to a non-member running nearly naked through their workplace. Armed only with a towel to snap, Chimaki runs and jumps his way to the boss-guarded hot tub at the end of each level. It’s like Ghosts n’ Goblins meets Spirited Away.
