Developers should follow Nintendo’s lead with 3DS titles

Developers should follow Nintendo’s lead with 3DS titles and not put “3D” in the name of your game. It’s a little trendy and doesn’t get me any more excited for your game, but nearly 40% of the launch titles felt the need to include it in their name. It’s sort of like all the “…Revolution” games that came out when the Wii was released. I have to give some companies credit, as they were clever with DS titles, for example Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow or Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword.

My point is, the 3DS already implies 3D and putting it in the title is a little redundant.

Solitary Castlevania Rebirth screenshot is enough

500x_rebirthHere’s a single screenshot from the upcoming Castlevania Rebirth WiiWare title. It’s like Konami went back in time and colored my green and gray Game Boy memories.

Castlevania ReBirth revealed through ESRB

Monday, September 14th, 2009 at 12:42pm by Sean Buckley

castlevaniaEarlier this month we saw Contra ReBirth make it’s way to North America’s WiiWare service, and it looks like Konami’s not slowing down.  From the ESRB website:

Platform: Wii
Rating: Teen
Content descriptors: Animated Blood, Fantasy Violence

Rating summary: This is a side-scrolling action game in which players battle against monsters in Dracula’s castle. Players use a chained whip to fight their way through halls and dungeons filled with zombies, skeletons, flying eyeballs, and bats. The enemy creatures frequently shoot projectiles and attack players in hand-to-hand combat. If players sustain too much damage, they keel over and emit a burst of red blood. Some rooms in the castle also have spikes or spears stained with red, blood-like splotches.

No word if or when we are going to see this hopeful gem flicker across our screens, but let’s all thank the ESRB, Kotaku, and GoNintendo for the heads up!

Youtube Tuesday – “WHAT!?”
This isn’t a Konami endorsed Castlevania game

This is a Japanese game made by a game developer called Frontier Aja. This is probably the closest we’ll ever get to seeing a traditional hard core Castlevania game ever again. The game has a tentative title which translates to “Scarlet symphony legendary Magic Castle Hongdo”. I only wish it was Konami endorsed since it looks so great in action. Watch a video after the jump.
