How well do you know your Super Mario Bros. villains?

Monday, June 2nd, 2008 at 1:51pm by Jack

birdo.jpgBowser and Birdo? Goombas? Easy peezy lemon squeezy. How about the ones that don’t get recycled as pop culture references in blog post after blog post? Do you think you can tell them apart from obscure dinosaurs?

Well ok, Mr. Fancy Pants. Get on over to Mental Floss’s latest quiz and find out for yourself. Then tell us how you did in the comments. I’m anticipating incredibly high scores from the Infendo faithful. I passed, by the way, with flying colors.

  4. Josh says...

100%. Needless to say, I love Super Mario Bros. 2 (where most of the baddies on this list came from)

  5. Joltman says...

    ergh…13 out of 15.
I missed Ostro (I should have known better) and Troodon.

  6. Dustin says...

  7. Instant_Awesome says...

    @David:

Not only did I get the same score as you, but I got the exact same ones wrong. Go figure.

  8. Erik says...

    Whoo-hoo! 93%! (14 out of 15). I only missed Bagaraatan, still, I beat the 75% avarage.

  9. Guch says...

87%, missed #13 and #14. I was actually really surprised at my score because I thought I was stumped from the beginning. YAYUH!

  10. Relay says...

    yay got a:
    Score: 87% (13 out of 15)

  12. Will says...

    Score: 60% (9 out of 15)

A little too much Super Mario Bros 2. Or should I say Doki Doki Panic…
way to make a false quiz, it should be Doki Doki Panic Enemy or Dinosaur.

  13. samfish says...

    Damn. 93% or 14/15.

  14. JoyfulAnn says...

I got a 74%. I agree with Will. I don’t care about all the stupid silly names for all the random enemies in Super Mario 2 . That’s not a real mario game so it shouldn’t count. I haven’t played it in ages, but surely someone could only have learned all those names if they were bored and felt like memorizing the manual, do they even mention their names in game?

  15. Pnut says...

93% Put Animatronyx as a SMB Villian

  16. Kale says...

100%. Can we have a real challenge now? Like, naming all the types of enemies in the original Metroid and the respective locations where they could be found….

  17. Joltman says...

    I agree w/Kale.
That’s a challenge worthy of being a true Nintendo fan/loyalist.

Let’s start a thread, shall we?

  18. greatslack says...

    I missed 3

  19. Andrew G. says...

100%. I don’t know dinosaurs as well as I did when I was a little kid (I was dino-obsessed), but the suffixes made is kind of easy. Plus, I know my Mario villains for sure. ;D

  20. sharp says...

    14/15.

missed on the smb enemy that sounds like porcupine.

  21. Mattiac says...

Well, I used to work with Birdo and we got along great.

  22. KillerHeroes says...

    Bowser. Who else is there?

  23. Jaime says...

    14/15. Missed “Troodon”. :P

  24. kirafrog says...

    I missed 1

  25. Axel says...

    80% here.

  26. Rabbitduck says...

87 percent. I never have played all the way through Super Mario Bros 2… not that their names are really in the game, that I know of.

  27. Frexy says...

    47%…

Never really played SMB2 than the first 2 or 3 bosses… Go figure. Never even heard of these enemies…
And as someone from Belgium I didn’t even know there was an animal called Dollodon crawling this surface several million years ago…

ANd… am I the only one brave enough to post bad marks? :p

  28. Travis says...

    93%…… I missed troodon. :-(

  29. Helen says...

    100% for me. I am a Nintendo girl-geek.

  30. ellipsis says...

100% first try… I’m actually surprised, I thought I got Triclyde and Ostro wrong, but they sounded familiar from one of the SMB game’s credits.
