Summer Bummer – very few enticing DS games on the way

This started out as a list top ten list, much like our top 10 Wii games of Summer, but I failed to find even enough to make a top 5 for the DS. Sadly summer just isn’t getting much portable gaming love, but the lists for the Fall and Winter will be easy to make! It just seems odd that there isn’t a new triple-A first-party game since Nintendo just introduced a new version of the DS last month. Guess I’ll have to keep working towards 100% completion on Rhythm Heaven and collecting the rest of the Golden Suit on Henry Hatsworth!
So what upcoming DS titles do you think will help move all those brand new DSi handhelds that just came out?

My DS summer consists of Knights in the Knightmare, and The Legendary Starfy. Not a whole lot, but more than the usual summer fare for me.

DS? oh yea…
As sweet as it is, it hasn’t gotten much play time. Not that i dont like it… it’s just that the Wii and 360 got me busy

Seriously, this Spring was awesome for the DS .. I think I bought three games in one month: Fire Emblem, GTA, and Rhythm Heaven are three of the best games I’ve played in a freaking long time. Sadly the momentum disappeared in May.

Well this summer Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days in August!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can look forward to continue getting parts of games for the DSi … Yeah, I don’t know. I think they really screwed up this one. Yeah, the DSi is going to sell because it’s a DS, but if you look at the launch just in terms of exclusive content, it’s a total failure.

definitely 358/2 days if it comes out at any time soon.
They definitely need to get some DSi exclusives out before the holiday season. I’ve yet to play anything on my DSi…
Not sure when the 2 pokemon remakes are out but I definitely want them.

Maaaaaaaaaaan………I was really looking forward to a year of DS, what with the DSi and all. I’m not disappointed with my buy, but I was hoping maybe, you know, we would get some first-party games besides Spirit Tracks.
On a side note, HEY INFENDO!!! POKeMON GOLD AND SILVER REMAKES HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED BY POKeMON JAPAN! Sadly, you won’t believe me ’cause the news was announced on the Japanese website, but it’s true, and they’re being released to celebrate the 10th anniversary of GSC. So an American release is to be around Spring ‘10.

I want Made in Ore. That would be a blast. But nooooooo.. everything’s going so damn slow. Gah!

I plan on getting Bangai-O spirits and maybe an RPG or something for the summer.
I also really really reaaaallly want Phantasy Star 0. I wish that came out sooner. My DS always sees the most action in the summer.
I think the reason we haven’t seen any DS news is because Nintendo is worried about the Wii right now. Expect more at E3, I guess.

Infinite space by Platinum Games and Spirit Tracks are the two games I’m looking forward to the most.

You know what my DS outlook is? Backlog, Backlog, Backlog! I just purchased gta chinaown wars (fantastic and the FIRSt gta that I liked) and trace memory. I made a list of all teh games I want to pick up for all my game systems and it scared me. For DS alone I have a list of 52 games that I want to buy.
The one thing you trade when you become an adult with expendable income is the actual time to enjoy your games. I have a wife and kid, work full time, AND go to school full time. I rarely get to buy games the same month they come out simply cause I just don’t have the time to play em.

I’m with Olimar_91, my main Summer DS game is going to be St!ng’s Knights in the Nightmare… which happens to have some hidden extras if you plug in the GameBoy Advance cartridge of Yggdra Union, from the same developers, in the GBA slot. Not a good encouragement to buy a DSi, in my opinion!
The problem is not that there are no exciting games for the DS for this Summer: there are dozens, in fact! But they can all be played in any of the three versions of the DS, so there is no compelling reason to buy a DSi if you already have a Lite. What the DSi needs to move units is a killer downloadable app (the Animal Crossing clock and calculator are close, but not close enough for me).

Oh, and to razorkid’s point: why would anyone be looking forward to new games in the Summer when you haven’t even tried the great games that already came out this year? Has anyone played GTA: Chinatown Wars yet? You can’t possibly complain about lack of good DS games if you haven’t tried that one yet! (And this coming from someone who has NEVER been interested in a single GTA game until now!)

@ InvisibleMan:
True, but most badasses such as myself are already done playing with the new good games, and have thrown their carcasses away iin favor of fresh meat. PokeMon GSC REMAKES FOR THE WIN. And I’m looking forward to Spirit Tracks, the new Transformers movie games (if they’re anything like the last ones, which were somewhat enjoyable), and Metroid Fusion 2. Whenever MF2 is announced. At least, I hope it was even CONSIDERED BY NINTENDO!
Sorry. I really enjoyed Fusion.
