I’ve always been a Nintendo fanboy, so seeing the 2008 press conference hurt my soul more than the Sony one did. The 2006 Sony conference, to me, felt like a victory.
Nintendo’s. Every time I see Cammie I just want to punch her in the throat for being so damn annoying. Plus you just can’t beat hitting the crab’s weak point for MASSIVE DAMAGE in battles that actually took place in ancient Japan.
Overall, Nintendo’s. They were certainly more “prepared” then Sony but the content was absolutely abysmal. At least Sony fans had decent 1st party software to look forward to in 06.
It’ll be awhile before the spectal of Ravi Drums and is trumped.
Oh please. Sony in 06 by a longshot. They managed to turn all that goodwill against them and secure themselves a comfy 3rd place position this generation.
All Nintendo’s did was make the haters feel vindicated, mostly. Just because they shrieked about how the Wii is killing gaming louder than ever doesn’t mean they were any less wrong.
$599 dollars LOL I’m sorry Wii resorts sword play is fun! Trolls melted as they played it. This is a PR office their job is to educate the new costumers I know every thing I need to know for this holiday and beyond. Gamers are way to picky! great game play is simply that. As a PC gamer I could not even bother playing console games base off the stereotype of graphics.
I was at the Sony conference. I have never forgiven them for it. Kept us waiting in the hot sun for an extra hour while they made their shit work, then pulled off a flop of a show. The price was ridiculous. The sixaxis was a clear Nintendo ripoff and the demo of it was pathetic. The idea of using a PSP for a rear-view mirror on GT5 - also ridiculous.
I still say Nintendo’s was worse for the reasons I’ve stated here before.
Sony’s was the only one of the three I liked. I wasn’t blown away by it, but it was good. They showed some solid games that were of interest to people besides grandmothers. Nintendo’s on the other hand was horrible, IMO.
People actually think the Nintendo 2k8 was worse than the Sony 2k6 disaster? seriously? That’s some monumental overreaction right there.
Nintendo’s conference was mostly flatline boring and yeah, somewhat disappointing, but, nintendo had blown it’s proverbial load on AAA games earlier in the past year. it’s unfair to expect them to have incredible games coming out every 6 months. Plus, they themselves said that they were focussing on the business/tech side for E3 now, it’s not like it’s a serious /game/ show anymore anyway.
Sony conference wins hands down for the blinding mix of the shameful and arrogant.
I’m a Nintendo apologist from way back and even I have to admit this was a horrendous press conference. I just got a Wii Fit so I freshly know how good Nintendo is at making casual games (although seriously… Wii Music? It makes me ill to think about… there’s not even a game to it!). The problem with Nintendo right now isn’t what they’re making, it’s how they’re selling it. While 360 and PS3 are hardcore gaming and entertainment machines, the Wii is a toy. A really awesome toy. And that’s not a slight against it, it’s one of the best toys ever created. Yet Nintendo keeps insisting that it’s competition for the other consoles while trying to sell these toy games to go with it. You give me a Mario or Metroid or Zelda, then yeah I’ll accept you’re a kickass next gen console, but when you’re selling Wii Music and Animal Crossing your job is to sell the wonderful toy to the masses, not even bother to talk to the gamers. That’s why they need to create their own event away from the gamer world to sell the casual stuff and save the real games for the E3s of the world.
Sony’s E3 2006 press conference was the ” worst” , I suppose.
It will be infamous as both a bad conference and a funny event for most non Fanboys to watch.
Nintendo E3 this year was garbage, it showed a lack of respect to hardcore gamers and was over all just boring. However, Sony made history with its E3 conference, Nintendo just pissed people off.
Who cares? I haven’t been impressed by E3…ever, so a lackluster presentation is no big deal to me. I was happy to hear about wiimotion+ and the microphone, not to mention the third party stuff. I’m not really sure what everybody was expecting.
Maybe i’m not hardcore enough. Or nerdcore. Or something.
What is funny is while you guys complain about nintendo’s conference the PS3 fail in sales to even the xbox 360. The Wii is still moving 600k. I count about 21 post here. No one cares about E3 except the peoplewho needed some thing to get mad at. No one is apologizing for the conference either. It was just as boring as the one in 07 but you didn’t see people jumping off roofs then. Don’t try to say mario kart was hardcore and Wii fit was just what you where looking for because if you say such things then motion + trumps all of those.
Seriously SONY press conference cause a lot of problems. It was lame for simply believing we believed the hype so much that we would pay $600 for it. Nintendo’s music game is avoidable but the ideas with in the PS3 are not.
I really don’t see why any one would be mad at them with the good games coming? I mean really sell your system people they still go for good money! You won’t because you know there is more than just nintendo games and to think they are not making other games is very silly. They don’t even know if people will buy these new games.
Seriously Sack boy is about to become SONY’s mascot LOL. How sad is that? The mascot of a level editor is going to be the systems main mascots WTF?
SONY has F’d up this gen and that conference seal the deal long ago.
So many cried about the E3 like it was a big deal yet system sales going on crushing every one even though their is nothing to play because we all know nintendo banned all 3rd party games right. Nothing is worst that 06 SONY and this gen proves it.
It’s funny. Sony’s press conference in 2006 was bad for all that it didn’t accomplish, for the outright lies, and for all that hasn’t come true over the past two years that was promised by execs in the keynote.
Nintendo’s 2008 conference, on the other hand, was a “failure” because it tried to do something new and didn’t do it in a way that the “core” gamer felt was adequate.
Sony 2006 simply failed, and Nintendo 2008 simply failed to give a small group of compassionate gamers what they thought they deserved.
Maybe a follow up post is something we should consider:
In the months that followed their respective keynotes (Sony 2006, Nintendo 2008), who delivered the goods? Almost immediately, the hatorade spilled all over Nintendo at E3 was basically exposed, mopped up, disposed of and forgotten as new game announcements and a thorough understanding of just what MotionPlus will bring to the table were seen without the knee-jerk, sky-is-falling reactionary lens.
Sony E3 2006… well… can we honestly say they’ve recovered from that debacle, now two full years later?
Yes the conference was pretty bad, Wii Music looked horrible (though a developer video at Gametrailers makes the drums actually seem cool)…
Still, I don’t think you can beat “massive damage” and “Riiidge racer!” with any of what’s in Nintendo’s video. It was bad but not memorable in the “so bad it’s good” kind of way.
The Nintendo edit was hilarious!! Exactly how I felt and still do. Basically Cammie and Reggie rattled on about a load of crap then gave us Wii Music and Animal Crossing! ZZZZzzzzzzzzzz

Even though these were “modified”, I still gotta say - Sony sucks way more.

Besides, the Sony one was just dull, they still showed some reasonable stuff. Nintendo showed stuff that only a true Nintendo fanboy could love.
