Sonic RPG revealed in next Nintendo Power
Saturday, January 12th, 2008 at 1:41pm by David
Alucard in the Infendo Forums clued us in to the next cover of Nintendo Power and its revelation of details about Bioware’s upcoming Sonic RPG. The new game will be called Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. Based on the promotional art and title, it actually looks slightly interesting. Still not sure if Sonic is a rich enough character to give us a good RPG.
Thoughts?

it’s bioware right? so it will be good.
but honestly, with that title, i’m hoping for a tongue in cheek parody!

Not a Sonic fan, so I probably won’t be picking it up, but I’m glad the Sonic fans out there will be getting a quality game after all these years of apparent torture.

I don’t see how this title can possibly be good, but it’s Bioware so I’ll give it a chance. I’m not expecting much though. The only Sonic game that I’ve played in the last decade and actually liked was Sonic Rush and that’s because it was old school. In fact, that is my favorite Sonic game next to Sonic 2. Has anyone here played Sonic Rush Adventure? It is any good?

i agree with deep thought. that title is ridiculous. is this the second sonic chronicles game? no, so why not just sonic chronicles or better yet sonic rpg. it worked for mario back in the day. with bioware developing though it should be a decent game regardless

My new year’s resolution was not to even entertain the thought of playing games with words like dark, shadow, blood and deadly in the title, or games with wholly unnecessary subtitles. Since this game has both, in the wholly preposterous “The Dark Brotherhood” subtitle (for a Sonic game, that is hilariously stupid), I won’t be giving this a second look. And as much as it pains me to say it, as I have multiple friends there, but Bioware’s recent stuff has been very overrated in my opinion.

mario isn’t a very “rich” character either, but square took the liberty of building an entirely original storyline around him (with lots of original characters, etc) and it turned out well. the same could be done for sonic.

SUPER MARIO R-P-G!!!!!!
Seriously, if Mario can star in an amazing rpg (with a talking doll that those fucktards at square enix should give to nintendo… He NEEDS more appearances!), than so can sonic!

This can’t possibly be good

@ boisv
Yes, SRA is excellent. But it’s not as good as the original due to the music.
Anyways, this title is looking incredibly promising, SEGA’s high production values and BioWare’s quality game-making are sure to make this one AAA title. I’ve only heard good things about it so I can’t wait. It’s looking to make up for STN (360), Shadow, and Riders.

Oh and Sonic is MORE than a rich enough character to give us a quality RPG. I mean, if a characterless italian plumber can give us good rpgs, a blue hedgehog with an attitude sure can. Not to mention the Sonic universe is HUGE.

I agree with Gojijuy….Even since I popped in the the cart for Mario RPG on the snes, I knew that it would be possible to make a Sonic Rpg….I really don’t know where people come from saying that sonic is not rich enough character to for an rpg…I remember that old Sonic cartoon on tv…(not the scary colorful toony stupid nonsense) And it had a lot of story and depth, Dr. Robotnik (NOT EGGMAN!!!) was pure evil, none of funny softness in him now. They can really make this game go deep if they wise….However, they’d have to go a little bit off the Sonic Team direction…@_@

no thanks. i dont like sonic that much. i wish they would have based their RPG on something else. i’ll pass.

the other thing i don’t get is, these guys are the guys from mass effect and knights of the old republic for star wars. can someone please explain to me, now that they are making a game on wii, that it is about sonic? something doesn’t add up about this company. thats just a slap in the face if you ask me.

Whatever good name Sonic ever had has already been dragged through the mud with the recent abominations he’s starred in. They really should just let him rot in peace and come up with new characters to star in this game. I never got into Sonic games but if I were a Sonic fan I would’ve given up on him a long time ago. That, and Sonic’s voice/general attitude just annoy me. I’d rather play a Mario RPG because at least Mario keeps his trap shut and doesn’t annoy you to death. Sometimes, less really is more.

I had to make sure my eyes didn’t deceive me when I saw Bioware’s name attachted to it! I don’t kow if I should be sckeptical or really happy. I haven’t liked a Sonic games since the Sonic Adventure series…amd that’s not saying much either.
Sonic is a character that I had hoped would a legacy as long lasting as Mario, but he really took a nosedive ater the 16-bit generation. If Bioware can make a decent RPG games out this guy, I’m definitely buying the game!

there’s a big preview of the game in the current issue. are you talking about the next-month’s issue mention in the back? leads me to believe that there is a different rpg to be featured in next months issue.
