Smashing in L.A. – video from the first Brawl tournament
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 at 9:46am by David
The first of the four Super Smash Bros Brawl tournaments was held yesterday. The video above is the final match of the Los Angeles tournament. Total length is seven minutes, but only half of that is the actual fight. It’s just so much fun to chant along … “Kirby! Kirby! Kirby!”
[Thanks, Will]

Suprisingly, it was a stock match! Unsurprisingly, items were on.
Meh match. It’s a lot different from Melee, but mind games still work, and those players didn’t have much in the way of those. How’d they get so far?

I wouldn’t have selected Journey (I think it is Journey) as warm-up music.
Other than that, not bad.

did any pros go to these “tournies”?

I honestly think the Kirby player wasn’t that great, but the chanting for Kirby made the other player (Ike) choke during the match not once but twice.

March 1st. Worcester. I’ll be there.

I think the Ike player just wasn’t very good in general. Either that or Kirby isn’t as nerfed as he was in melee, which is good news to me. I’d love to main Kirby in Brawl like I do in the original.

How do you people expect to see awesome brawls when this was the 1st time those people played the game?

droop has a great point

I’ve heard Brawl has a different feel than Melee. Those may have been veteran players, but the way Brawl feels and plays may have thrown them off.
Cool! wish I could have gone!

Wow, people need to spend more time with this before doing tournaments with Brawl. That was pretty lame.

Kirby is a lamerz character

Gah! I need my Brawl NOW.
February 18th, 2008 at 3:42 am
Eh Kirby.

WTF? I’m better than that! Then again, they used CLASSIC CONTROLLERS and they had a lot of pressure…but really, that was terrible! Once again, I AM BETTER THAT THAT!!!!!
…god….

@ droop: Not a matter of having first having played the game, but the fact that they mostly just ran at eachother. Looked like the same old newb match you’d see in Melee. Considering the players lacked any real mind games or knowledge of how the game worked, I’m surprised they made it so far.
If I had been there, I know for a fact that I could have beaten either person with Fox/Falco by simply applying what I know from Melee minus shine combos and most everything else from Melee.

I’m really looking forward to playing against some of you guys once I get my hands on Brawl. You have been warned.
