questionmarks225.jpg[There are 15 new challengers in Super Smash Bros Brawl. This series will feature each new contender and rank them on their fighting potential with the Infendo Smash-O-Meter! The Smash-O-Meter measures each character (on a scale of 0 to 300) on their uniqueness and potential as a great Brawler. Spoilers are present, so be careful if you wish to remain unspoilt.  Big thanks to today’s guest writer: Will]

Lucas

This silent young, psychically strong, boy first appeared in the video game Mother 64 which eventually became Mother 3 for the Game Boy Advance.

He is considered to be the spiritual successor to Earthbound’s main protagonist Ness. However, you should watch out for his powers. Unlike Ness who could burn you to a crisp with his psycho-kinetic abilities. Lucas will just deep freeze you, and let some of his other abilities thaw you out.

Game Appearances:
Mother 3

Lucas can be very tough to actually figure out due to his psychic abilities and movements. Can the other brawl contenders withstand his mental attacks? Do they have enough mental training to withstand the power of psycho kinetics or will they end up running away?smashometer119.jpg

Based on his psycho-kinetic abilities, how would you rank Lucas?

    119% :)

    I think Lucas will be a pretty good addition. I’ve always been a fan of Ness and want to see how Lucas handles during a fight.

    I never really liked Ness too much (I preferred speed-hounds like Fox and Captain Falcon) so I don’t think I’ll be using Lucas much, especially if he’s a Ness clone.

    Wow… now the stupid smash-o-meter makes even less sense. How can you “rank” anything over 100%?

  4. Dustin says...

    Why is everyone so up in arms over the smash meter?! It’s an arbitrary number, so what.

  5. Jack says...

    Maybe it’s climbing by a set % (except this week, natch) to 300% — the day Smash Bros. launches? Hmm?

  6. David says...

    @GradiusFan -

    You’ve played Smash Bros, right?

    @Jack -
    You might be onto something ..

    Hahaha, way to “break up” the “increase percent by 20″ thing you had going on, David.

    Captain Falcon could pulverize Lucas because Captain Falcon doesn’t need to think. He just does.

  9. Andrew G. says...

    I’m okay with Ness. But Lucas’s PK Freeze is much faster than Ness’s PK Flash, so I think I’ll play as Lucas more often.

    Unless there’s some factor about him that just sucks. I’ll have to wait and see.

    i think that a ness clone is useless escepicaly when almost no one use ness. i like to use link because the UP+B move is multy purpose and not just used in combat (DK) or as useless as some others and only use for recovery (Roy) and it is funny to see other peoples reactions when i spam the UP+B move and buld masive damage. what we need is a clone of the more useful carictors that people use more often like fox, falco, kerby, samas. not lame charictors like ness, pechu and such

    SSBB has sold 840,000 in it’s launch week in Japan, getting to a million after eleven days. And with expectation at a fever pitch it will definitely launch at number one in America and Europe. But will it be one of the biggest games of 2008?

    QUOTE: “carictors that people use more often like fox, falco, kerby, samas. not lame charictors like ness, pechu and such”

    okay all grammatical and spelling crimes aside

    “i think that a ness clone is useless escepicaly when almost no one use ness. i like to use link because the UP+B move is multy purpose and not just used in combat”

    Ness’ UP+B is not useless and never was, it was possibly then most multi purpose UP+B in the game. It simply needed to used correctly. Once a player had mastered the control of his PK Thunder it was able to launch him a great distance and send other characters flying when you used Ness’ body as the projectile weapon not just the thunder bolt.

    I originally loathed Ness in SSBM, but once I gave him a decent try he soon became one of my favorite brawlers in the game.

    So whether I am “almost no one” or not. I loved Ness and am glad that they have included another Mother character… pity about Midna not being there though :(

    @muggy: Both Up+B moves you listed can be used as attacks as well as recoveries. DK’s is just generally more horizontal and Roy’s more vertical. Also Falco is a Fox clone. And if Kirby is as nerfed in Brawl as he was in Melee why would you want a clone of him?
