New Mii Channel launches in April

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007 at 12:34pm by Staff

Via Siliconera:

During the Nintendo keynote Shigeru Miyamoto mentioned that a new voting channel where people can vote on their favorite Miis was in the works. A message was sent to Japanese Wiis with the date of the new channel, April 29. In the channel players can pick one of two Miis as their favorite and results will be shown online, similar to the Everybody Votes channel.

Are you ready? Are you ready? Let’s get it on!

What is up with their voting channels? They should focus on something more substential… Let say: On-line game play… Instead of wasting our time and our space on our Wiis with stupid Wii voting things…

I stayed positive through the launch of the outdated weather channel, the pointless news channel and the “fun for a minute” Everybody Votes…but this one just sounds like a colossal waste of everyones time.

How about a WiiStats channel that merges all your daily play data into weekly, monthly, and all-time charts? You could see what your most played titles were over time, etc, I’d have to think this would be more useful (AND easier to build) than this crap.

Or if they want to focus on Mii’s, how about a Mii Playground or sorts. One could interact with other Mii’s in real-time and maybe even play simple games like tic tac toe or dots. Or a Mii download channel with celebrity/promotional mockups.

How about general leader boards (Wiiners?) for games? That couldn’t be too tough. Or if they want to get crazy, how about a Wii Olympics channel where Mii’s could square off in WiiPlay-type mini games (they could test selling this app on the Shopping Channel for like $25 worth of points or something)?

Obviously there’s a ton of INTERESTING possibilities of future channel builds…I just hope they throw their gamers a bone or two and don’t ONLY cater to the casuals.

The voting channels are a decent way for them to collect information on their users. The ‘vote for cool looking Mii’s channel would be better utilized if it offered additional Mii customization such as simple clothing (different hats) and more facial options. How about a way to interact with the palette of the Mii’s face directly, like the white cat in Animal Crossing WW whose face you could draw - although that does open the option of Mii’s the the F-word written instead of an actual face…

Damn parental options/protecting children is GREAT, but there must be a way to get by that without limiting our online options!

Vote for your favorite Mii? No thanks. There better be more to it than that, like some updated Mii features. Otherwise, just bundle it as part of the everybody votes channel as another poll section.

Hey, jonkendall, the News Channel is the Wii channel I use the most!

Having said that, I agree that they should at least release a game-related channel, like leader boards or your best records of the games you’ve played!

    I can’t wait either.
