Rumor: Final Fantasy VI coming to DS?
Friday, January 30th, 2009 at 5:30pm by WillThis image was found on somewhat infamous and well known image board. This image board is known for having news early, but for also having a mixture of fake news as well. I would not considered this image solid news that Final Fantasy VI is in the works until an official announcement from Square Enix is made.
However, on a side thought, would you guys purchase a remake of Final Fantasy VI for the Nintendo DS? Or are you tired of their ports and want them to start making new games like The World Ends With You?

FFVI is pretty epic, and I have played it a few times, so I would probably skip this one.
January 30th, 2009 at 5:53 pm
I haven’t played any of the FF DS remakes because of my very limited gaming budget, but I hear they’re good.
I don’t know much about VI but I’m constantly wondering why they don’t remake VII…for any system. It’s guaranteed money in the bank for Square-Enix.

I’ve played through this many times on the SNES, but I would buy this in a heartbeat. This is what I’ve been hoping for since the FF III remake was announced on DS.

Final Fantasy VI? I LOOOOOVE FINAL FANTASY VI! *moans and thrusts*

VVVVVOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
January 30th, 2009 at 9:05 pm
I have played Final Fantasy IV DS and other than Last Arm taken out; the Zuu battle in the beginning; the additions to replace the GBA stuff taken out for space reasons and the totally revamped script; it was basically a really good Final Fantasy IV remake. Love the tough bosses too…Lunasarus was impossible without throwing Elixirs at it due to Bad Breath confusing Cecil and maiming characters for 9999 damage.
However; I think a Final Fantasy VI DS remake is going to be too difficult to do since it was one of the most complex made SNES games I have ever seen (If it wasn’t for too many barrier-piercing attacks in the game; I think the game would be mighty difficult on it’s own.) in programming both overworld and in battles (I’m hard pressed to see such care in AI scripts for monsters even with the various minor bugs screwing some of the product over.). A direct port of this game would be mucho macho easy and be nearly 100% accurate (Chrono Trigger DS almost had it dead on; but some of the sound effects and the final boss theme were butchered a bit.); but I doubt I would want to play again without a massive amount of extra content in addition to the content with the Dragon’s Den and Boss Rush.
Considering that The World Ends With You did make some decent sales; I think Square Enix should consider new original titles unrelated to their brand names; but until they sell near the remakes that Final Fantasy III and IV DS is selling right now, SE is simply not going to devote all their resources on it. I do not mind playing a Final Fantasy VI DS remake in semi 3D; but I would like them to port over a few Super Famicom games that we didn’t get like Romancing Saga 2 and 3; Seiken Desetesu 3 (sequel to Secret of Mana), Bahamut Lagoon (the original SFC one; not the sequel Blood of Bahamut) and even a couple of SE bought titles like Lennus 2 (sequel to Paladin’s Quest) and Tactic Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (which is going to be on Japanese VC). These games are titles most Americans and Europeans have not played outside of illegal emulation.

Any reason you can’t just link the rumor’s source thread? Describing it and then not linking is kind of stupid, and I’m not going to try and search some of the forums I know of that fit the description. :\
I would probably get a DS port because I’ve never played it before, but I still haven’t finished III or the GBA port of V. I’d rather they just release new games instead of relying on their existing properties so much. Also, don’t really care for TWEWY.
January 30th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
Obviously he’s talking about a certain website like the one like 2ch.net, where the threads delete after a while and are purged from the system. I Think Kotaku links to 4chan sometimes, and they do the same thing.

Final Fantasy VI is not only my favorite Final Fantasy, but my favorite game of all time. If this got released…ecstasy would flow through me. I’d totally buy this.
January 30th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
I bought it as Final Fantasy III on the Super NES, as Final Fantasy VI Advance on the Gameboy Advance and most recently as Final Fantasy VI for the Super Famicom. Easily my favorite Final Fantasy and a guaranteed purchase when (not if) Square ports it.

Pffft, why do something original now. They should just keep with the sequels and remakes so I can entirely write them off instead of hoping they might do something I care about. Such as a new front mission game, or anything else that isn’t Final Fantasy or a remake.

I think that if they’re gonna remake FF VI, they should at least remake it on the Wii. The art and soundtrack deserve a grand overhaul.

I am not a big fan of RPGs. I bought FF I&II when it came out for the GBA and I got so bored of it within mere minutes that I had to return it. I liked Dragon Quest III for GBC, Pokemon, Phantasy Star IV, and about nothing else. I’m not an RPG kinda guy.
However, everyone who I trust (gaming-taste wise) has told me that this is one of the best RPGs ever made and the best FF ever made. I might give it a shot if it comes to the DS.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:28 am
OK, I’m happy that a Final Fantasy VI is being made for DS. But,….. what ever happened to Final Fantasy V DS ?
January 31st, 2009 at 3:26 am
Yeah, it’ll be pretty lame if they just neglect FFV, since it may be the most underappreciated in the series. However, I can’t not be excited about FFVI. Next to Chrono Trigger, FFVI is probably my all-time favorite RPG.
January 31st, 2009 at 3:33 am
Sonova #¤%& @$#½§! I don’t give a crap about FFVI, give me FFV!
January 31st, 2009 at 5:05 am
Think my friend would pick this up in a heart beat, assuming he can afford it. As for me, he’ll probably jam the game down my throat and force me to play it.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:07 pm
that’s the best game ever made as far as i am concerned and i’ll crap my pants if they DS it with the same treatment they gave FF4.
please, baby jesus, please.
Gregory Weagle is entirely right a few comments up — i can think of a couple games Square could turn to as well — but it’s ff6!!
if they simply give it the Chrono Trigger treatment, though, then who cares, really, I’ve bought and beat it on the SNES and played it on emulators on everything from a dreamcast to a Wii to a DS to a Laptop etc… a simple port to the DS would be nothing then but a collector piece for hardcores or, really, a silly consumerist choice for everyone else.
a 3d-ification and voice acting though, with cutscenes (better ones than the stupid PS1 version please) and all would just make me have 4 strokes and a heart attack. in the good way.

[...] Infendo found an image of a 3D Magitek armor from Final Fantasy VI on a “somewhat infamous and well known image board” which may hint at a DS remake. I’m guessing that this source is one of the chan boards which might explain why there is no link to the original source. If this picture is where I think it is from, it would also severely cripple how real it may be. The model definitely replecates the DS’ style and looks really good, but we’ve seen DS graphics faked before. Unless a more reputable source confirms these images, it’ll just have to stay a rumor. @Damien: Kotaku still links the thread and names the board. :\
January 31st, 2009 at 4:07 pm
@ neko
rules 1 and 2, seems Will knows them.
January 31st, 2009 at 4:48 pm
I’m slowly playing through FF4 on DS at the moment, I’d definitely get an FF6 remake, I started playing it on GBA but never had the time to finish it, i’d definitely go for a DS version with voice overs and the like.
January 31st, 2009 at 7:48 pm
@Damien: Lurk moar, rules of the internet are subject to personal interpretation, etc (IE NO ONE CARES.) /b/ is so over-run with shit today that it doesn’t matter if someone talks about your secret little (read: IMMENSELY POPULAR) web board.

@ moonfag
Rules still matter, and you’re the type of person who seems to be wanting to spread teh cancer. Also, can we still discuss Final Fantasy 6? What no? Cause you destroyed the discussion, cool story bro.
February 1st, 2009 at 2:34 am
You’re the type of person who seems to take stuff like “‘teh’ cancer that is killing /b/” too seriously. And anyone who wants to add to the discussion need only ignore these posts and offer theirs.
February 1st, 2009 at 2:43 am
I’d love more new stuff from Square-Enix.
but I gotta be honest, An FFIV is all I’ve been thinking about since they released FFIII for the DS. Especially if they have actual recorded dialogue for the cutscenes a la FFIV. I NEEDS ME SOME KEFKA

@ Neko, Damien, Anonymous
I understand what you guys are trying to say, but it’s pointless either way. The Reason I didn’t link to the thread is because the thread was near the verge of a 404, and I didn’t want to link to a dead page where people could start exploring a site they probably didn’t want to see.
On top of that, Neko and Damien, as much as I like watching a comment fight in my posts you guys need to stop. The was no reason to start a fight over a link that would of lead to nothing since the thread purged, not to mention that you guys obvious knew what website I was referring too.
Plus Kotaku doesn’t link to the threads of that website that often, although they mention the site sometimes in their posts. I feel that even mentioning that website would be a bad idea in general, so I explained what the site was about.
Finally, Neko if you have a problem with the fact that I didn’t want to link to a website that was going to purge the information approximately 30 minutes after I posted the article? You can take that up with management.
February 1st, 2009 at 8:49 pm
They would have to go with the biggest possible cart (same size as DQ IX) and price it accordingly, but yeah I would buy a 3D FF VI remake with orquesta-quality music.
February 8th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
Dude I would so buy a remake of FFVI it is worth it if it is in 3d that is, and is done in the same way, if not better, then FFIV. I don’t mind remakes as long as there is something added to it, and 3d, voice overs, and CGs would make this an instant buy for me.
May 25th, 2009 at 11:53 am
Please dont do that, FFVI is the best ff game and my favorite all time game, this game was a piece of art, so i dont think so that a 3d remake of this game would be fine.
May 28th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
The best final fantasy of them all, if they did it, they not only would have to do it, but they would have to rock the living shit out of it, no half assing.
June 21st, 2009 at 1:29 am
This is actually my work, and is not official. This was either taken from my development thread on Polycount ( http://boards.polycount.net/showthread.php?p=834295 ) or from my deviantART account ( http://technographer.deviantart.com/gallery/ ), and then posted up after removing my contact info.
Sorry to disappoint; FFVI is one of my favorite games of all time as well.
October 25th, 2009 at 6:58 pm
I would love to see this game re-made. I’ve played through the Final Fantasy IV re-make and thought they did an exelent jod on updaiting the graphics and sticking to the story. I would definetly love to see this game come out in the future.
February 21st, 2010 at 11:25 pm
They would be stupid not to.
To be honest, Final Fantasy VI is still the number one RPG of all time. Solid story, all characters had key importance (no focus on one character) the villain is one of a kind. Plus, it broke new grounds in RPGs. Its hard to top off what Square did upon releasing this game in the nineties. Final Fantasy V was pretty successful upon re-releasing it for the DS. I think they should. I would definitely buy a DS just for this game.
