Rock Band coming to Wii

Friday, February 1st, 2008 at 8:52am by David

rockbandwiiinbox225.jpgWhile I was sleeping last night, apparently news broke that Rock Band is coming to Wii. It was mentioned by an EA executive during a conference call and later confirmed by IGN. Thanks to everyone who sent in this tip.

Has anyone been holding out for this title? Think they’ll have special all-white drums? (Honey, we need to get a bigger apartment.)

I had a feeling this was coming. I really really really really hope they can make DLC work somehow. Nintendo, now is the time for a storage solution.

I got this for the 360 this week, and folks it is a BLAST. Highest recommendation.

Great move by EA to bring this game to the masses. Here’s hoping sales justify their decision.

If this game isn’t enough to force Nintendo’s thumbs out of their collective asses when it comes to a storage solution, nothing is. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I don’t even care about DLC for this game or GHIII, but I DO want a real storage solution (even if its SD card based) and if this game is the incentive, well all the better.

“(even if its SD card based)”

This is not the ideal solution, but it is the easiest to implement. It shouldn’t be that difficult to let us play VC and Wii Ware games directly off the SD card. I bought a 2 GB card for my Wii at launch, and have found absolutely no use for it except for taking my saves to a friends house.

I agree, but its acceptable and realistic. It appears that some new functionality in SSBB that directly accesses the SD card may be a precursor to this solution. If you can save user created stages to an SD card and access them in-game, there’s no reason you couldn’t save Rock Band DLC to the SD card and access it in-game.

I like the idea of an SD card solution because it really increases the potential portability. USB thumb drives would certainly be nice as well, which would in turn lead to external HDDs.

    @ Used cisco:

Oh it is definitely possible, as proven many suns ago my this little title called Excite Truck, which lets you play all your mp3 files while playing the game!

    ^^Good point.

I will buy this if it has downloadable songs like the PS3 and 360. Otherwise I would already have the PS2 version.

I believe in an early interview about Rock Band Harmonix said that they wanted to make it for Wii as well, but were waiting for Nintendo to come up with a DLC strategy. So yeah.

So you took my tip eh? ^_^

This is great news — not perfect, but a start. I’m hopeful for the download content as well. Let’s one-up GH3!
