Rock Band 2 for Wii is already in stores

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 at 8:12pm by David

Just got back from Best Buy where they had a stack of Rock Band 2 for Wii already sitting on the floor, available for purchase today (shipping date is tomorrow).  It’s the full band kit only right now, though.  They didn’t have the disc-only version available (which is what I want since I have Guitar Hero World Tour instruments already).  They were also selling extra RB2 Wii drum sets.  IGN gave the game 9.0 today, which is 0.2 better than GHWT’s score.

Anyone excited to see this out already?

I can’t wait to find out if the online is better than GH:WT. That has been really disappointing to date. If it is even slightly better, I will do cartwheels in my underwear (video proof to follow thereafter).

Glad this is finally out so Wii owners can know the awesome that is RB2. Don’t know why they’re saying the guitar still feels “spongy”. I assume all the RB2 instruments are identical excepting the platform, and my guitar feels perfect. The strum bar has less give than the first one did, so now you can feel and keep track of your strumming, without the audible clicking of the GH controllers. The fret buttons are so much better than GH’s once you get used them. It’s so much easier to slide into a hammer-on or pull-off because of their proximity to one another. And they don’t make a loud clacking sound like the first ones did, just a very muted one that you barely even notice while you’re playing.

ANYWAY, I love this game so much more than GH:WT I probably won’t buy another GH iteration unless they change it significantly.

I can’t wait to grab an instrument included edition! I hear RB2 works with the GH:WT instruments. Does the opposite hold true as well?

Joystiq has a nice compatibility chart for all versions of GH and RB instruments.

My GH3 controller was giving my double-strum problems, so I bought a Nyko Frontman Wii. It is currently working very well as my bass for GH:WT. Is it safe to assume that this will work in RB2 as well? I would think so, as it is just a 3rd-party GH3 controller, so the guts must be the same.

So the disc-only SKU is not available yet, huh? That’s funny, it was exactly the opposite with RB2 for the 360: first they had the disc-only version out, and then they had us wait two or three months for the boxed version with all the instruments!

Mmm, don’t know, I enjoy drums more on GH: WT since you have two cymbals.

Anyway, maybe once the disc version is available I’ll consider a purchase since it would mean 70 new songs (not considering repeats).

If rock band had more than two good songs, I’d consider it.

    I WANT IT!!!

I found the disc only version at EB Games today, picked it up. Good times!

I just tried Rock Band 2 on my Wii using the GHWT guitar and it worked great! I really like the RB2 interface, it is cleaner and seems to track the skittles to the songs more acurately than GHWT. My wife and kids are excited to get our band together on this one tomorrow. I really like the “no fail” option for playing with the kids, this will be awesome. With this and GHWT, now we have lots of songs to play. The RB2 packaging says that it includes 20 free download tracks for Wii, but I tried the online music store and it is not up yet. I will keep checking. Take care, Gern.
