Pirating Just got Worse on the Wii.

Earlier today, news of a new homebrew coder named Waninkoko, has risen from the depths of the Internet. With his name he brought news of an working ISO loader for the Wii. The details are very sketchy as to how it works, but from what is swirling around the net is that it uses “a special program” to edit the ISO of a game. Aftewards you can burn it onto a DVD and use the Homebrew Channel to launch the burnt copy, allowing you not to have to worry about SD card space. To some this will be a glorious age of fun times, to other a dark age of problems and piracy wars. Who knows what will happen, but this is an interesting development, anyone for pirated Captain Rainbow?

    “anyone for pirated Captain Rainbow?”

    Yeah! Me! ME! MEEE!…Oh and while they’re at it, they can maybe do an english translation for the game! That’s like turning a thing of evil into something good isn’t it? LOL

    Is pirating a problem with XBox 360 and/or PS3? I assume not on PS3, just because burning BluRay discs is so expensive… but so far I’ve only heard news about the Wii homebrew scene.

    (Of course, that’s not taking PSP and DS into account.)

    Finally, Nintendo finally has something for their “hardcore” gamers this Fall.

    All kidding aside, how many Wii owners will ever even hear about this let alone use it. For that matter, how much piracy would it take for Nintendo to even feel it in their pockets?

    I hope everyone who uses this gets bricked when they try to go online.

    Delicious :) .

    You won’t get bricked just by going online. My non-kosher Wii plays Mario Kart online (I bought the game leave me alone) all the time. You just have to be smart enough to do updates properly to avoid brickage.

    What kind of bastard names their character “Linkff”? That’s jacked up!

    i saw a lot of pirate games over last summer in latin america. they cost about several $ and run on hacked consoles. i was really astounded at the prevalence. it looked like a console generally cost more, like $400 for a wii, and then it needs a chip installed. But after that games are cheap. I think I wouldn’t mind that business model in the states.

    Dammit. I was really a fan of the Homebrew Channel, what with its neat ports like QuakeWii and its many emulator options, opening the Wii up to games that Virtual Console hasn’t released (and may never).

    But this is going to completely overshadow any other functions of the channel, and now I fully expect Nintendo to go to war with the folks who wrote it, using firmware updates to kill it as maliciously as possible.

    Sigh.

    Man nintendo is letting these guys do all this work before the smash them again. The funny thing is… wait there is nothing funny about this. You won’t be able to finish captain rainbow any way. This is another reason why developers should have online games. You could connect to the internet and use a serial and register a user name. If you fuck up you get -50 dollars put on your Wii then you have to call nintendo and provide proof of purchase LOL.

    That would be a sad day but I don’t know taylor says it won’t brick a system I don’t know about that?

    @Run Line 10

    Are you trying to kill the used games market or something? That’s a terrible idea. Also, the requirement for online sucks. I hate how I can’t play games I have for Steam without connecting to the internet. HATE IT.

    Piracy bad. That said,i’m going to call fake. Why is there no sound until the game starts? Seems like somebody lost the sound for the menu-clips in editing and didn’t want to re-capture it.

    @Seaniccus

    Actually, it’s real. Most Homebrew uses actually remove the Wii System menu sound because they think it’s annoying. They also do it because they can, and they are looking to replace the song with something else.

    Yes, the pirate market flourishes down here in Brazil. When a Wii costs around $1100, and a game costs around 140 dollars, people simply refuse to pay. So we have stuff this expensive, besides huge amounts of taxes, because Nintendo doesn’t have representation down here anymore, everything is imported. They used to say it was because authorities don’t do anything about pirates. On the other hand, the “black market” gets this huge because prices are so high. So it’s a vicious circle.
    Reggie said recently Nintendo wants to work closely with governments of countries who are having these problems, to lower taxes and such and find some way to get the “official” market going.
    Me, I simply won’t hack my Wii. It’s too beautiful to mess it up. ;) So I buy games online, on sites that work like eBay. Usually people will travel, buy lots of games and sell them online later. $80 to $90 is still a lot to pay for a $50 game, but at least it’s not $140…
