Overheard at GDC: “Boom Blox 2 is epic”

I was talking to a friend/editor today who is attending the Game Developers Conference. I promptly asked what he’s liked the best. His response? “Boom Blox 2 is epic.” The word “epic” caught me off guard, so I asked him to clarify. “It’s awesome,” he added. “The graphics are 10 times better, there are way more modes, and it’s super-easy to send and download new levels with no friend codes.” Well alrighty, then. Boom Blox Bash Party, as it’s officially called, comes to Wii this May.

I was a pretty late comer in playing Boom Blox. I just didn’t think it was something that looked like that much fun. Then one day, I decided to give it a rent from Block Buster – WOW, was I impressed. I think Boom Blox is one of the funnest games available for the Wii, and I am very much looking forward to the next installment of this game.
Better graphics, better gameplay, and increased amount of levels – sounds like a winner to me.

I agree – I thought boom blox looked pretty cool… probably a rental. But me and the gf have put some serious hours into the first one now, and i reckon it’s probably the best party game on the wii – if only because there’s really no controls to learn.

This is a purchase for me. My friends and family have had lots of fun with the original. This game looks like a ridiculous amount of fun. Plus, water and space physics!
Now, just to nitpick, the new box art looks like trash.

Like with Aliens and Terminator 2, the sequel is better than the original? We’ll see! Great news though. Good on EA for sticking with it. Spielberg too.

But does it do head tracking?

I like Boom Blox and this complaint doesn’t really matter, but why are the blox so friggin’ ugly? They look like some cheesy gold photoshop effect from the 90s and then there is the light purple lettering on top of it. Uggghh.
