I still can’t believe it’s already been ten years since I booted up Ocarina of Time for the first time and watched Link ride over Hyrule field on the back of Epona. Ten years ago today, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time released in the United States for the Nintendo 64.
What a masterpiece. I can’t tell you how many hundreds of hours my brother and I spent aimlessly riding around on Epona, cutting/reassembling signs and getting lost in the water temple. I have yet to come across a video game that tops my love for Ocarina of Time.
Bravo, Mr. Miyamoto! Bravo!

One of the Best Games Ever.

THE Best Game Ever
Holy crap. Ten years ago? Yeesh.
They still haven’t made a better game, hop to it gaming industry! ^_^
The post was going so well, until you mentioned the water temple.
I don’t get it. Was the Water Temple supposed to be hard?
Happy 10TH Anniversary Ocarina Of Time!!
Now, if only Nintendo can get some kind of message in their head to do a remake of Ocarina Of Time for DS with probably, a couple of new cutscenes. And also the option for you to play as Sheik in some parts of the game.
one thing you have to mention for people who have not played ocarina,,,
you won’t see whats amazing
I am one of those people. I haven’t played ocarina in its days, and i only played it like a year ago, while the game is great, its not amazing. I do not see why is it the best game ever.
After a bit of research, I found out to really experience the game you had to play it by the year it got out. A lot of innovation and new mechanics(riding epona freely around) were first timers in the gaming world. Playing it now ten years later it is only expected of a game as most games today have these options.
in a way its like saying the wizard of oz is greatest special effects movie, only after watching the lord of the rings, its not all that amazing
I know it’s out of the ordinary, but I’m in the small minority that actually feels the OoT ISN’T the best Zelda game. I think the love for Ocarina is tinted by nostalgia or fond memories or whatever. I think that, when compared side-by-side, Wind Waker was a far superior game. But then again, this is just my opinion and I realize that the Majora-ty feels differently.
That was today? Ocarina of Time was the first, and one of the few games I ever pre-ordered. It also blew my mind – I remember catching myself in a zombie like trance at one point, snapping awake to realize that I had been playing so long, my jaw had slackened and I was actually drooling. It was gross. And amazing. I wish that wonderful gold cartridge had never been stolen from me.
A lot of modern gamers who weren’t old enough to play this game when it was contemporary won’t understand what makes it so great – after all, aren’t a lot of it’s mechanics and themes present in current titles? Yeah, sure – but these were miniature revolutions when they came out – this was the first Zelda game to do anything like this. It was, new, different, and creative. When you see them today, they are simply re-hashing an old gameplay concept – when they were new, they were something special.
I can’t believe I was 11 when I beat this game.
I still regard the water temple as the most cleverly constructed level in the history of game design, and the only level that truly exploit puzzles drawn out into 3 dimensions. But then again, I never played Descent.
Ten years? Fuck me sideways! Still undoubtedly the best game ever made.
Even today I’d put it up against any title for sheer fun, creativity and the way it sucks you into the story line. The characters, both the main ones and the random people you meet, really create a great sense of Hyrule being a living breathing world.
Greatest game ever.
I feel old.
I liked twilite more than ocarina
o i actaully didnt play the game till after the gamecube but it was an awsome game
not the best though
I want to play this on my DS… :’( I don’t know what they are waiting for!
i just realized the resemblance to guitar hero.
Not only do I not think it’s the best Zelda game, I don’t consider it the best N64 Zelda game. I actually enjoyed Majora’s Mask more.
As far as a DS “remake”…just no. I’m sick of remakes/re-releases.
