No more Wii for No More Heroes
Thursday, July 2nd, 2009 at 6:56pm by Blake
Next year’s sequel to the original No More Heroes will be the last on Wii, according to series creator Suda 51.
“I think this is the last NMH that is going to be developed on Wii,” Suda told Edge. “To expand NMH to new possibilities, we need a new platform. Wii is a great platform, but we’ve done everything we can with it now.”
Shortly after Microsoft demoed Project Natal last month, Suda expressed interest in developing for Xbox 360.

that’s a pretty low blow suda.

That’s what Nintendo was waiting to hear from the developers. The time to release the “Wii HD” is approaching.
Surelly, Suda51, who is an artist too, got excitted when he saw the alternatives of motion controllers from the Microsot and Sony. Added to this fact is the processing power of the other consoles, which means wider horizons.

Mmm, poor Suda51. Natal might not even be release for 360 and will probably be held for the next Microsoft console. Even if it does release, it is not included in the millions of consoles already in consumers hands and thus it would be a gamble to release a Natal specific game.
Anyway, he’s given us Killer 7, No More Heroes and next year we get Desperate Strugle. Let’s see what happens after the sequel is released.

I agree with Uilian. I love the Wii, but let’s face it, Nintendo can’t possibly stretch this generation as long as the 360 and the PS3 with its current graphics (and audio) capabilities. If they try, I’ll be forced to consider the competition.
Wii HD please!

didn’t like the first one much. so i don’t really care about this bit of news.

If NMH2 doesn’t have Wii Motion Plus and Balance Board support, than Suda hasn’t done “all he can do” with the Wii.

this has to be the most stupid thing i read all year!!!!
its funny when the wii was announced everyone was hating on it and when this pos is shown the fake ass gaming media go nuts? please this is a joke!! suda just showed me why his games never sell.

@ Uilian
If they offer Wii HD for trading in your old Wii, like the DS, I’ll get it.

I have a 360 and I am a big No More Hero fan. I am very happ… for me !!!!!!!!!
No More Hero for the Xbox 360, hell yea!!!

Suda see dollar signs
Suda might see “hardcore gamers” reject game just because original was on Wii
Suda not see as many dollars as he think
Hehe!

A little dissapointed but not overly so. We’ll still have two exclusive NMH games which is a plus and he hasn’t said he’s going to stop developing games for the Wii altogether – that just means less sequels, more original IP, which is fine in my book.

I guess the Wii had it coming any ways
I guess the Wii is starting to die, as PS3 is flourishing
3rd party developers are making big bucks on ps3/360
on Wii it seems only Nintendo making big bucks

Uilian is right. Nintendo said that once developers say they have run out of ideas for Wii, then it will be time for a new console. I honestly don’t think Suda has “run out of ideas”. I think more realistically, he feels that his products will sell better on the HD platforms. I don’t know if he’s right or not. Generally, games that feel very Japanese don’t do very well on the 360 and the PS3 install base and high development cost is making every game a challenge to be profitable on.
As to what kingmohd84 said? It made me lol. Wii dying? Not even close. The developers making big bucks on the PS3? Again, lololol. If they’re making big bucks on the PS3, then why is Activision, the BIGGEST publisher on the platform threatening to pull support?

So much for the Suda love around here. Funny how some of you now don’t think NMH is “all that” after this announcement. You were probably listing NMH and NMH2 as reasons why the Wii was better before this announcement.
I liked the game. I didn’t like it BECAUSE it is a Wii game. So if it ends up on the PS3 or 360, so be it.

NMH is still all that but what is funny is he believe the HD guys will support his games when clearly they look down on cell shading and unrealistic themes.
This would almost be like putting god hand on the HD console along with viewtiful joe. Hey he has to find his big break though. More people have to be exposed to his art and games though. Yet if he sells 200k of an HD game I hope it is on EA tab and not his own! that would erase every thing he has worked for.
Just look at what happened to factor 5, suda. If your game is not all over uncharted or some other game then it is game over for you. I know he could do it talent wise but I’m talking about money wise. Who would foot that bill right now?
It would also be sad to see him leave gaming simply because of one mistake and fans claiming they would love his game on their system yet they can not even buy his old games on the Wii.
Maybe he feels he can out do infamous? Well how hard would that be? GTA may not be coming out till next gen? Well maybe he wants that GTA money? Some thing tells me GTA fans don’t like his art or game play.

What a Wii HD would need knowing Nintendo never goes to cutting edge parts ?
Lets say Gamecube/Wii architecture compability! Which means:
¤ A IBM PowerPC chip with G5 crunching abilities in “multicoring” at least! … with low power requirement (Apple never got it for its Powerbook line…)
¤ 10 times the RAM memory of the Wii ! (Remember PS3/Xbox360 mostly cheats HD, with most AAA games staying only close from real 720P) – overall 512Mo RAM is not enough for 1080P gaming.
¤ An ATI/AMD video chip that flies AVC/h.264 HD decoding. Only Nvidia sells already a low cost low power drawing chip solution with their ION chipset.
So while Sony and Microsoft ready cheaper than ever hardware why on earth would Nintendo release a 300$ hardware with minimal profit per sale with higher development cost to boot and confuse the customers. They sold more than 20 millions Wii the past 14 month, they are heading to another 25 millions at least through 2009/2010. Now is time to focus on software and franchise consolidation. We know what the hardcore crowd represents: just a good fraction of the total Xbox360 sales that wants violence, guns and fast cars.
HD is not selling console, you need to watch blu-ray reader/disc sales to monitor HD adoption. Broadcast HDTV has more importance then the console war for HDTV set sales.
So for now Nintendo ought to focus on StarFox, Kirby, Zelda, Mario, Online F-Zero, etc to nurture is prime market and work on the new adult crowd with the Wii brand.

I’m not sure I agree that Suda has really “done everything we can with [Wii] now.”
He’s hit all the main gimmicks nicely, and made an interesting game in the original No More Heroes… but that game needed a LOT more polish before being anywhere near hitting limits. And I strongly doubt that Suda is going to push the limits with his next game either.
That said, if he wants to move the franchise to another console and see what happens, best of luck to him! As long as Wii is still getting more good games than I have time/money to enjoy, then I’m a satisfied gamer. (And once Wii doesn’t have enough good games coming out, I’m simply going to grab a 360 and start playing all the awesome exclusives that I’ve missed when they are cheap.)
July 3rd, 2009 at 12:55 pm
As has been said, I think doesn’t mean he’s jumping to 360 just yet. I think it’s a developer pushing for WiiHD. Hopefully by the time NMH3 rolls around, it’ll be out.
That said, do we really want this to be a franchise? I kind of want Suda51 to keep making original, crazy-ass games. I’ve been replaying Killer 7, and I wouldn’t mind a spiritual sequel to that.
July 3rd, 2009 at 3:14 pm
I am surprised Suda is looking to make a 3rd NMH at al
Maybe he only never made sequels before because of sales, but i just thought he had alot of good ideas and wanted tokeep doing new things.
I dont mind 1 sequel to niche games since theres always polish to do on low budget games, but do we really want a franchise from a guy who can only make one game at a time? i am not talking about collaberations, i mean his own personal studio.
Aside from that, this isnt the first time hes talked about developing on the 360 and budget will either stop him or hurt his ability to do what he wants because he wont get any more sales on 360 then he did on wii.
Remember, he also put his games on ps2 and they didnt sell there either.
His games are niche, and thats not bad but it means they will always be low budget if hes smart about business.
He needs nintendo, they take care of him and care about keeping budgets under control.

I personally didn’t get that much out of NMH1
it was a good game but after a few hours it seemed like it kept coming back to more of the same, just with a few extra moves. Plus the motion controls could have been improved imho.
But yeah, if they are moving, and the HD version does play well, can I ask for a PS3 version? I don’t want to buy a 360 until at the very least I can see a few games on the shelves that use natal AND the natal starts to be bundled with 360s. If microsoft are gonna half arse this and not stick by it I’m not investing in it.
July 4th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
With all the HD talk about NMH, I’m wondering who actually played NMH.
Unless Suda completely changes his art style, I don’t see how he’d base his decision to move NMH to the 360 because of HD.
No, I think the reality is that bloody, over-the-top games would go over better on the 360. I also think he might be able to take advantage of the 360’s more powerful processing. But the HD argument just doesn’t make sense.
July 4th, 2009 at 8:46 pm
I guess this means Desperate Struggle is going to be so bloody good he can’t make it any better on Wii. Or at least Suda-san thinks so. Progress is essential for any series, so I wish him luck with those “new possibilities”.
No More Heroes with Natal? Yeah, that’s funny.
July 6th, 2009 at 11:34 am
I think he just needs a better engine seriously. If he made NMH with the UT3 engine it would suck and we all know it. He has the art he just needs the programmers.
