Nintendo: Zelda HD won’t “necessarily” look like this

Speaking to Wired last week about the conceptual Wii U demo of Zelda HD (pictured), here’s what producer Eiji Aonuma had to say:

“You probably remember that when we introduced the GameCube, we showed a somewhat realistic Zelda demo,” he said. “And what we actually created was the cel-shaded Wind Waker. So when we show a graphic demo, people think, ‘Oh, this is what the next Zelda will look like,’ but that’s not necessarily the case,” he said.

No worries. I trust you. So long as it’s Zelda, I couldn’t care less.

Just for a laugh they should open up the next E3 with a cel-shaded intro, and really wind up the fans… wait until the fans are at breaking point and then BANG! Cut the clip off short and break into the “real Zelda” intro – that would be epic! A real roller coaster of emotions! 😀

who didn’t see that one coming

  3. Josh says:

Now that they have the horsepower though, they really should do another realistic looking Zelda. Of course any style they choose will be stunning so I’m not really worried.

  4. shelldone says:

They’re probably just saying that so we will be more hyped when/if they announce something like this.
Of course there will be a hd zelda, probably look even more realistic than this.

The whole reason why skyward sword is all artsy is because the wii cant handle good realistic graphics.
So now that they have the wii U which can make games look great, they would be stupid not to.

  5. Matt says:

I understood that it’s a concept game, not a real game. The next zelda game may or may not look like this, it’s completely unrelated at the moment.

  6. Mohan says:

Uh-oh…the are tying to pull a Wind Waker on us…not that it’s a bad thing. 🙂

  7. CM30 says:

Eh, it’s to be expected. But for once, I can’t be the only one who’d actually like to see a new game looking exactly like the tech demo. Or a new Zelda game with all the beta content cut out the other games in the series.

  8. EdEN says:

But it could. Just being able to do Zelda (or any Wii U game) with that kind of detail would be great.

  9. deepthought says:

not unexpected. i’m sure it will look great anyways.

  10. DevinShadowV says:

Still an HD Zelda would be amazing and it gives the art team more creative freedom now that they can finally work in a format that is standard today and expand on it.

For sure. You know nintendo will put a ton of effort into any zelda game, which saves me worry. I know when it comes out that they did everything in their power to make the best game possible.

  12. Eugene says:

As long as I don’t have to wait till the end of the console’s lifespan like Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess I will be happy.

  13. Lance says:

I would like to play that tech demo my self. It looks real nice. But I’m not worried about what a Zelda game on Wii U will look like when I have yet to get my hands on Skyward Sword. That game can not get released soon enough! Got it paid off and about to preorder both the soundtrack AND the gold Wii Remote (which should both be preorder gifts IMO).
