Houston, we have a sequel.
With a brief trailer showcasing similar gameplay to the original, Nintendo unveiled Super Mario Galaxy 2, a sequel to the 2007 blockbuster Wii platformer.
Reggie Fils-Aime said off-stage the game is set to release next year.
Making a bit of Nintendo history, Super Mario Galaxy 2 makes Wii the first Nintendo console since the original NES to host more than one proper Mario platforming title.
Nintendo said little, and details are sparse, but the trailer confirmed Mario will be reunited with his pal Yoshi in Super Mario Galaxy 2.
And for now, that’s more than enough.
Another must buy for us. My son loved the first game, and this looks even better with the addition of Yoshi.

I think this game was shown much earlier than Nintendo wanted to show it because Pikmin 3 wasn’t ready to be shown at this point of development. I personally thought it was overkill myself to have 2 major Mario games shown within the same year. Hopefully; they won’t be released in the same year.

Personally, I don’t think Nintendo would have gotten as much positive response to their presentation if they showed Pikmin 3 instead of SMG2.
Don’t get me wrong; I love all things related Nintendo. But in order to generate the buzz and to keep all the people talking about you only (and forgetting your competitors), you must deploy some huge title.
And SMG 2 delivered just that. I think it was the right way to go for E3.

How come Nintendo is wasting there time in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2, when they could be rich from Pikmin 3 or New Play Control Pikmin 2, and beside SMG2 and NSMBW isn’t out till next year, NPCP2 and Pikmin 3 is out this year!
But zoltman its better to announce the current year games before announcing next year’s game line up. Pikmin 3 would hvae been good at any time but if it was released in 2010 it wouldn’t be good to anounce the title till that exact year.
